sorry for silly question, but in display drivers and library of kernel there's a lot of LOG macro (OSAL_PRINTF, DE_INF, ...) but none of them are enabled by default build. How to enable them ?

why oh why does aliexpress not allow Chinese characters in messages???
<dack>
when I ask for a flash image they always ask if I'm looking for some sort of picture
<wens>
image == picture
<wens>
ask for disk image, not flash image
<hramrach>
if they allowed chinese characters you could write it so they would understand ...
<dack>
yeah, I understand, that's why I want to write in Chinese... switched to writing "shua1ji1" since pinyin gets past the filter
<dack>
hramrach: exactly
<dack>
I just don't understand why they make that kind of restriction...
<dack>
One guy I'm talking to... I swear he just throws everything through an automatic translation program.

i hope to put a stop to this as soon as possible
Quarx has joined #linux-sunxi
<dack>
libv: really?? I thought maybe it was just a slight modification to the file table.
<hramrach>
which results in the content to be inaccessible
<hramrach>
and it's modification to the flash block management data
<dack>
hramrach: yeah, but I thought maybe it was _slight_ and reversible
<hramrach>
maybe but it's modification to AW format that is totally undocumented
<hramrach>
libv: does it happen with the ancient cb2 image also?

hramrach: on a cubietruck?
<libv>
dack: it seems to not be that
<libv>
but investigation continues
<hramrach>
libv: why not? it will just make some parts of the board unusable but nand is wired the same, isn't it?
<libv>
also, i will be building a usb-host to usb-host cable and documenting it
<libv>
hramrach: wait and see
<hramrach>
I cannot reproduce the bug. With kernel 3.4.75+ I can still see the content of android partitions.
<hramrach>
and I did not notice any whining about nand in the logs but might have missed that

hramrach: on cubieboard2?
<hramrach>
on CT
<libv>
hramrach: with the latest android ct image?
<libv>
livesuited over
<hramrach>
probably not. with whatever came on the board
<libv>
hramrach: see, this is a vital piece of information you seem to have missed
<libv>
hramrach: it only happens with very recent a20 livesuit images/nand contents
<dack>
someone filed a bug in the github repo about not being able to get libnand working reliably on cubieboard2...
<hramrach>
so they changed something in the latest images
<libv>
hramrach: ...
<hramrach>
actually, the nand formatting is done with livesuit so they changed livesuit, probably

hramrach: no, they didn't

hramrach: it works with v306 just like before

Quarx has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<libv>
because livesuit images are what they are?
<libv>
livesuit images have tons of extra stuff backed in
<libv>
the livesuit tool is not too smart on its own
<libv>
it's just stupid and big for little reason
<libv>
at least, that is what i think right now
<libv>
it would be stupid to bake low level knowledge into the livesuit tool
<libv>
that info should be in the livesuit image, not in the tool
<hramrach>
I don't think you can. the formatting results always in slightly different nand size so it mush happen at the time the imag is written to the nand

<hramrach>
wens: yes, it must contain the pertition table in some form. it probably expands the last partition to take all remaining space. Code for that is in some versions of the sunxi partition driver as well

<hramrach>
from the results seen I would expect that the livesuit image contains the block device level filesystem and that some stuff like the nand block management structure or SPL memory info is constructed on the fly in some way
<hramrach>
reportedly reimaging with livesuit with some 'full format' or similar option checked is the only way to recover a device which has the flash too bitrotten to access anymore
<hramrach>
that does not mean that the image itself does not contain the tools to do so. They are not known to be part of the burnt image, however. So they have to be either added by packer and then used and stripped by livesuit or live in livesuit
avsm has joined #linux-sunxi
<hramrach>
that also explains why you need different livesuit version for different SoC. the flash format is different and is not included in the image
