<wens> mripard_: wonder what is the acceptable clock rate for ahb1
<wens> clocking it directly from pll6 @ 600M seems to break
avsm has joined #linux-sunxi
<mripard_> wens: I have no idea
<mripard_> it works on the A31, but I never got my hands on a A23 board yet
<mripard_> how are the clocks set up in the BSP?
<wens> mripard_: ahb1 clocked from pll6 @ 200M
<wens> so that'll be my setting, using assigned-clock* in the ahb1 node
<wens> btw, our clock driver doesn't work well with assigned-clock* in the clk node
wingrime has joined #linux-sunxi
<mripard_> wens: I think it was meant to be in the device node
<wens> mripard_: about the breakage, it varies from a slow system (when i got the divs wrong) to complete hang
<wens> mripard_: bindings say, if it's a single consumer clk, you can put it in device node
<wens> if multiple consumers, put it in the clk node
<mripard_> ah, ok.
<wens> mripard_: oh, could you merge i2c-next into sunxi-next? for i2c-mv64xxx breakage
<mripard_> yep
<wens> tested putting it in device node, looks ok
<mripard_> done

<traeak1> came back up and its behaving a bit better
<traeak1> unfortunately there's noticeable latency
n3rd_dude has joined #linux-sunxi
<traeak1> when i tried plugging in jack before it always told me it couldn't get good latency
<traeak1> something about the sunxi kernel ?
<traeak1> honestly as long as everything woudl be stsable i would think something faster than the allwinner a10 could handle the midi
<traeak1> btw just use case: i want to use a headless computer to run a software piano for and power a kawai vpc1 midi controller that mimics a professional grand piano action and run the output into some speakers
<traeak1> the vpc1 can be had in the us here for 1600usd or less which
<traeak1> building a 50usd or so midi controller has some appeal
<mawe242> traeak1: i'm also building a midi device on linux-sunxi, but using an a20
<mawe242> using fluidsynth on the a20 works great, very little latency (although i haven't propert measured it yet)
<traeak1> fluidsynth?
<traeak1> i'm using linuxsampler direct to alsa at the moment
<mawe242> but you need to patch the sound card driver to reduce the buffer size.
<mawe242> fluidsynth is also writing direct to alsa, no jack involved
<n3rd_dude> hey, has anyone managed to push the A10 beyond 1104MHz? :-)
<n3rd_dude> just playing around with it atm and it keeps hanging above that
<traeak1> i suspect you'd need better cooling
<n3rd_dude> traeak1: done! :-P
<traeak1> are you using a heatsink?
<n3rd_dude> 5 actually
<n3rd_dude> btw, it's a 'naked' board so does that apply still?
<n3rd_dude> just curious
<traeak1> ahh the patch i'm interested in
<n3rd_dude> as a precaution, I added some heatsinks anyway
<n3rd_dude> it's never too bad to be overly careful
<traeak1> yeah the a10i have here is naked
<n3rd_dude> :-D
<traeak1> as i mentioend above it seems to go crazy booting the kernel but the android on the mmc always seems to boot
<traeak1> so i dunno if that means anything
dack has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<traeak1> just curious if anyone had seen that b4...
<n3rd_dude> traeak1: you mean you can't boot at all or?
<traeak1> n3rd_dude: if i let it sit 10+ mins or so then it will start booting again
<traeak1> during that 10 mins seems like android will still boot however
<n3rd_dude> ah

<traeak1> mawe242: i'm using linuxsampler because the piano i have is more than ram
<traeak1> mawe242: i need to look at how fluidsynth is diff from linuxsampler
<mawe242> traeak1: ah, i see.
<traeak1> i started my project based on this page:
<traeak1> and the a10 is certainly far more capable than the rpi
<mawe242> my a20 uses about 30% cpu time on one core for the fluidsynth, playing 10+ voices with reverb
<traeak1> the current piano in sfz format is 319MB
<wens> in case you want to try
<mawe242> so should be fine on the a10 as well
<traeak1> i have a 25key midi contorller i'm testing with at the moment
<mawe242> traeak1: let me dig out that patch for you...
<traeak1> its a 512 model and i have it set up headless so almost 500MB free
HeHoPMaJIeH has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<mawe242> hm... thinking of it. I think I will submit that patch to linux-sunxi. would be good to have it in there by default i guess.
<traeak1> with linux sampler at least slamming down almost all the keys repeatedly pretty much causes static and stalling
<traeak1> so i suspect the a10 is marginal for this
<traeak1> ify ou read teh rpi page he got only 4 notes before it started stuttering
<traeak1> then again i am using an optimized version of the piano he was using
zeRez has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
zeRez has joined #linux-sunxi
<mawe242> traeak1: can't you limit the number of simultaneous voices in linuxsampler?
<traeak1> hmm? just one piano
<traeak1> for classical you want to have 48+ simul
<traeak1> the nastiest bottom barrel casio has 32 note poly
<traeak1> the one model up from that is 128
<traeak1> my 20 yera old yamaha has 32 note
<traeak1> and i'm wanting to replace that dinosaur hehe
shineworld has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<wens> i remember seeing someone use the rpi as an ewi usb output
<wens> ie sound module for the ewi usb
<wens> haven't tried it myself
<traeak1> so the whole point is put everything one one power strip, flip and switch and everthingn powers up
<traeak1> having volume controls would be nice that's sort of a detail

<traeak1> usb sound card the samples have some static but anyways take that with a grain of salt
<hramrach> I don't know
<hramrach> they say it's pre-installed on the tablet
<traeak1> ugh now lame question what does git pul l on the sunxi-3.4 get me
<traeak1> i just pulled stable, wrong thing to pull for that?
<rafaelMOD> By ALSA. We are runing LV2 plugins.
<mawe242> currently it's 3.4.102-r1
<mawe242> let me see if my modified rt patch still applies
<traeak1> right as you typed that i found the 102 reference

<traeak1> what else would teh RT do for me?

<mawe242> must have changed after 3.4.90-r1 then
<mawe242> hm...
<traeak1> i went in and started merging
<traeak1> a bit down it started getting out of hand
<mawe242> so those changes in rtmutex are linux-sunxi specific?
<traeak1> i don't seem to think so...
