<arokux> ssvb: hi, have you solved keyboard issues?
<ssvb> arokux: no
<arokux> ssvb: have you checked if these kbds work with the kernel? (on allwinner boards)
<ssvb> arokux: yes, I used all of them on allwinner boards earlier
<ssvb> arokux: have you tried any tests with usb keyboards yourself?
<arokux> ssvb: with mainline?
<arokux> ssvb: I do not have one...
<marcin_> Hi. Does someone know what is output format for CedarX decoded video frame? https://linux-sunxi.org/VE_Register_guide states nv12 or nv16 (MACC_ISP_CTRL_?) for ISP, but besides color format I suppose that is tile format.

<ssvb> arokux: these two usb wired keyboards and two wireless keyboards with usb receiver/transmitter dongles worked with sunxi-3.4 kernel
<ssvb> arokux: ok, are you using some old ps/2 keyboard with your PC?
<arokux> yes
<arokux> :)
<ssvb> good you you :)
<ssvb> *good for you
<arokux> you do not buy a new keyboard if your new motherboard still supports ps/2 and even if not, there is ps/2 to usb converters.
<ssvb> I had to buy an allwinner a13 board (which I did not have before) to debug dram patches on sun5i hardware :)
<ssvb> this hobbyist software development thing incurs some expenses

<hramrach> The extra USB port is unusual for a tablet
<rm> I wouldn't call it "extra"
<rm> or in fact I expected two USB host ports after reading your description
<rm> but in general, those are more common than you think
FreezingCold has joined #linux-sunxi
<hramrach> usual tablets have 0 host ports
<hramrach> at least in this price range
<rm> I even had a tablet with Ethernet (RJ-45 socket) right on the tablet itself
<hramrach> nice :)
<hramrach> also microphone
<hramrach> that's somewhat useful but rare
<hramrach> hmm, it says stereo speakers but there is no way to place those in that case
<rm> I have an A31 tablet
<rm> biggest gripes are the mono speaker
<rm> lack of bluetooth, and inability to use USB OTG and have charger connected at the same time
<hramrach> I have a rk tablet with front facing stereo screechers which works ok for watching movies in tablet quality
<rm> (and also the lack of any worthwhile usage scenarios for me personally for such a thing as a tablet)
<hramrach> I use it occasionally for reading something
<hramrach> if it had a keyboard I could use it for dissecting my PC when it crashes or occasional web browsing
<hramrach> I think there would be more options if the system on it was normal Linux distribution rather than Android but getting the stuff that already works on Android working on Linux would be a lot of work
libcg has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<hramrach> it sucks that most stuff with actual built-in 3G is Mediatek
<wens> cause it's cheap, compared to qualcomm
<hramrach> it's cheap compared to, say, an AW chip + an extra 3G module
Guest94173 has quit [Excess Flood]
<wens> that too, i suppose
<wens> there aren't many choices around
<hramrach> if it wasn't the Chinese and Koreans would not go out of their way to use a different chip for the same tablet model with 3G

<zoobab> anyone has ever tried gigabit on A20?
rds has joined #linux-sunxi
<rds> Gerwin_J: congrat to buy this overpriced, undocumented board
<wens> zoobab: with 3.4?
<rds> I hope folks just ignore it, until AW drop the price to something more reasonable, like US$49
<wens> rds: i doubt it would drop that much
<Gerwin_J> i still don't have time to test it
<wens> wonder what fab they're using
<rds> oh well, let's wait and see...
<Gerwin_J> but i will make some picture :)
<Gerwin_J> but for a cheaper cubieboard 8
<Gerwin_J> you need to wait until october
<rds> Also, the developers of this community should have got one, for each developer
<wens> Gerwin_J: even the cubietruck was around $100 i think
<Gerwin_J> yes will around 100 dollar
<rds> It just shows how the marketing at AW is bad, or non-existent
<Gerwin_J> AW focus is tablets first
<wens> rds: they want to ship volume, through tablets, can't blame them
<wens> just like MTK focuses on phones
<ssvb> rds: I would wait for the SoC respin with SATA and Mali features back and more reasonable prices :)
<rds> Intel partners, receive under NDA, dev boards usually years ahead of being launched
<wens> you've never seen a dev board with an MTK processor in the wild, have you?
<Gerwin_J> 64bit will maybe maybe maybe mali
<rds> 64 bit is another DUD from AW, if they're just releasing this on the market!
<ssvb> Gerwin_J: yes, it may indeed make more sense to go directly to 64bit
<ssvb> either way, A80 does not look attractive at all
<Gerwin_J> more information about 64bit is in october
<rds> Cubietech is an assembly house for AW dev Kits. See that they don't have a platform like R-pi.
<rds> Every single new board from Cubie, have different layout or headers pinout, partners can not design standards shields, like the R-pi platform has
<rds> creating a nice ecosystem for the platform

<Turl> no sunxi kms yet though
<Turl> so no disp layers etc

<CaptHindsight> rds: why the A23 vs A80? Has it been confirmed that the A80 will not support SATA or is SATA just mysteriously missing from the announced boards?
<CaptHindsight> what would be a good open design to just hand to Chinese fly-by nights to mass produce? A23 in BBB or Rpi form factor? Something new?
<CaptHindsight> small simple cases are stupidly simple to 3d print using DLP
<CaptHindsight> for <$700 you can print cases in minutes better resolution than with FDM http://www.3ders.org/articles/20140804-upgraded-uncia-hits-indiegogo-dlp-3d-printer.html

<Vanfanel> Hi, I'm following this code to try to implement a RetroArch driver: https://github.com/ssvb/xf86-video-fbturbo/blob/master/test/sunxi_disp_vsync_demo.c
<Vanfanel> Looking at sunxi_layer_set_rgb_input_buffer() implementation, it seems that using an rgb565 buffer is possible
<Vanfanel> however, in my platform/OS (Debian on a Cubieboard2) default fb is 32bpp, so sunxi_layer_set_rgb_input_buffer() sets a argb8888 surface
<Vanfanel> how can I change that, please?
<Vanfanel> I mean, can I set a 16bpp fb somehow?

<Turl> read the fex guide on the wiki

<Vanfanel> Turl: no software involver, the text console is what seems broken
<Vanfanel> *involved
<Vanfanel> I have no X
<Vanfanel> this backend will use sunxi fb directly
<Vanfanel> it seems my console is still in 8888, yes, but how can I change that?
<Vanfanel> the flex part is done as indicated in the wiki
<Turl> no idea, maybe ssvb or libv can help you there
<Turl> I'm not into graphics myself
<Vanfanel> Thanks anyway

tinti has joined #linux-sunxi
<Turl> Vanfanel: maybe you can fix it with some fbset incantation
<Vanfanel> Turl: fbset already reports 16bpp :(

<Turl> maybe it thinks it's 5551 or something else
