<buZz> what am i missing
<buZz> i installed dropbear on this armv5 ebook reader, but i cant scp to it
<buZz> ah, it wants to execute a scp binary .. hmm
<hp__> hi buZz :)
<buZz> hiya :)
* buZz still is missing with getting scp to work :P
<buZz> works from ebook side, but not into the device
<Triffid_Hunter> buZz: when scp won't work, go with tar -c blah | ssh device 'cd /somewhere; tar -xv'
<Triffid_Hunter> or even cat with single files
<buZz> ah right, of course
<buZz> it just that scp integrates nicer into gnome ;)
<Triffid_Hunter> buZz: sshfs is even better :)
<Triffid_Hunter> not sure what's needed on far end for that, but mounting end needs fuse

<slapin> hi, all!
<buZz> hoi
<slapin> talking about android, why quality of these firmwares are so different? on my a7hd tablet everything works perfectly, apps install, etc. but on mk802 market gets into 'package format invalid' problem. Now I can't install youtube on stick intended to use for kid's cartoons...
<jelly-home> huh, doesn't mk802 come with android youtube app by default
<jelly-home> (mine did; updating it from the market worked as well)

<jelly-home> so... it comes preinstalled by default, but restoring to factory defaults removes it? o.O
<slapin> jelly-home: yes
<RaYmAn> the issue probably is that none of these devices are authorized to provide market. No certification/testing done etc
<RaYmAn> so it'll be a hacky ass solution always
<slapin> jelly-home: and doesn't fix a problem with non-working market (apps < 500K install well, but not bigger ones). Time for reflash, it seems...
<jelly-home> perhaps I ought to save an image of the flash while things sitll work, then
<slapin> is there any way to reflash these devices, except for livesuit?
<slapin> or, for that matter, Linux version of livesuit?

<drachensun> there is a Linux version of livesuit
<drachensun> but it has some kind of authorization checks

<rz2k> [19:53:27] <whitequark> irclogger (http://irclog.whitequark.org/arm-netbook) just got an upgrade!
<rz2k> [19:53:42] <whitequark> join/leave/quit messages are now hidden by default, which greatly improves SNR
<rz2k> [19:53:56] <whitequark> also you can search for kicks/bans
<rz2k> buZz: mali400 doesnt accelerate X
<rz2k> driver is needed for DRM/DRI2 infrastructure
<buZz> then what is that xorg-video-mali driver for?
<rz2k> for talking with dri2
<buZz> so that already exists?
<rz2k> it just renders the picture above the needed area
<buZz> above?
<rz2k> we have two versions of mali opengl es libraries
<rz2k> one for x11/dri2 and one for pure framebuffer
<buZz> i still have to get my head around how opengl es is seperate from the actual videooutput
<buZz> so, me having a /dev/fb* would suggest i am using the latter?
<techn_> buZz: you asked about native resolution via hdmi, try this https://github.com/techn/linux-allwinner/tree/wip/edid
<rz2k> no, in two words, dri2 is a way of showing stuff to framebuffer without copying it to X/whatever and then showing it.
<hno> buZz, MALI draws onto the framebuffer memory region. disp displays the framebuffer memory region on your display output.
<rz2k> you will always have a /dev/fb
<buZz> i noticed edid stuff in the kernel, should i enable that?
<buZz> hmmhmm
<buZz> and currently mali just has dri1 ?
<buZz> or no dri at all
<techn_> buZz: it has some compile errors.. but it should work
<buZz> hmm cool, i'll start recompiling soon then :P
freakazoid0223 has joined #arm-netbook
<rz2k> you have a selection, use the x11 libraries or framebuffer. first one works with x11/dri2 drivers, second one just renders output to /dev/fb0
<techn_> buZz: That's still wip.. need to finish it some day ;)
<buZz> rz2k: but it using the x11 libs wont make it faster than framebuffer?
<rz2k> there should be no difference in 2D rendering for both cases
<buZz> meh :(
<rz2k> mali can do only 3D opengl es 1/2 and egl
<buZz> i still have to figure out how to try out 3d
<buZz> debian wheezy doesnt seem to have any opengl es tools
<rz2k> check the wiki
<buZz> will do
<rz2k> hm, you can compile own demos then
<rz2k> I believe they are extremely simple and can be taken from mesa git
<jelly-home> noone made a libGL wrapper that made all the unimplemented stuff to NOOPs yet?
<rz2k> jelly-home: that will break a ton of stuff, isnt it?
<rz2k> we have a mesa-gl for unimplemented
<jelly-home> weeeeeeeell maaaybe
<buZz> that lima driver is still too-beta-for-usage right?
<rz2k> author of that lima is here :p
<rz2k> libv said that progress will happen
<rz2k> it can show you the spinnig companion cube right now
<buZz> ah yeah
<buZz> we had a 'fight' earlier :D
<jelly-home> a spinning cube with a couple thousand triangles is nice but not enough for a wild compo demo!
<penguin42> there are lots of bigger models out there; I think there is a free repo somewhere
freakazoid0223 has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<slapin> what is companion cube?
<WarheadsSE> imx233 based
<WarheadsSE> I think
<WarheadsSE> oh, not that one :P
<buZz> slapin: a 3d model from portal, the game
freakazoid0223 has joined #arm-netbook
rellla has quit [Quit: rellla]
<libv> jelly-home: the amount of triangles itself is not important
<libv> jelly-home: a companion cube is just a nice goal in the game of figuring out how the engine works
<libv> you go from a flat shaded cube (12 triangles), to a flat textured cube, and then you bump up the triangle count, improve infrastructure, and then figure out what was wrong with your previous assumptions about how the engine works
<buZz> man, it takes forever for that cold magnesium case on the lapdock to heat up :D
<buZz> maybe i should add some wrist-warming element to it
<penguin42> buZz: That's the problem with low power systems
<buZz> :P
<buZz> there is no cpu in lapdock

<Dessimat0r> is there any information on what prerequisites are needed for compiling the u-host kernel?
<Dessimat0r> in terms of toolchain and so on
<buZz> eh
<Dessimat0r> i guess it's an Allwinner A10 (Cortex A8)
<buZz> gcc glibc? the usual?
<buZz> build-essential
<buZz> what are you guessing about?
<Dessimat0r> i guess so, but it's a clean Linux install with no ARM toolchain stuff
<Dessimat0r> and this is the first time I've done it
<buZz> oh u-host is a device?
<Dessimat0r> yeah
<buZz> heh
<buZz> ok, do you have source + config?
<buZz> will you be compiling it on the device itself?
<buZz> imho thats easiest
<buZz> i do kernel compilation for cubieboard on the cubieboard
<Dessimat0r> i guess the source is at https://github.com/linux-sunxi/linux-sunxi
<Dessimat0r> i probably won't, on the computer on a Linux install
<buZz> hehe yes, but a config that works for your device, can probably just start with the config from /proc/config.gz
<Dessimat0r> ah, ok
<buZz> crosscompiler installation varies per distro
<Dessimat0r> Ubuntu 12.10
<buZz> well as i said, i dont like crosscompilation
<buZz> i just do native :)
<Dessimat0r> there's no installed gcc etc. on the device
<Dessimat0r> and no package manager
<Dessimat0r> sudo add-apt-repository ppa:linaro-maintainers/toolchain; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install gcc-arm-linux-gnueabi
<Dessimat0r> i guess this
<Dessimat0r> in Ubuntu 12.10
gohd260 has joined #arm-netbook
<penguin42> Dessimat0r: There's actually arm cross compilers in the standard ubuntu repo these days
<Dessimat0r> ah
<servili007> Dessimat0r: uhost U1A?
gohd260 has joined #arm-netbook
<servili007> Dessimat0r: if so, you might want to use the sunxi-3.4 branch in linux-sunxi
<Dessimat0r> servili007: maybe, it depends on whether the RGB output patch is in that
<servili007> Dessimat0r: I need to do more testing, but there is the possibility that 3.0 won't detect a display for you
<servili007> if you get to tty0 and then it won't start X, check your logs, that might be the issue
<Dessimat0r> the screen is purple up until I start something in android, then I get a black screen
<Dessimat0r> and everything is ok over HDMI
<Dessimat0r> (but the old monitor I'm giving to my father is not HDMI and has the RGB colourspace only
<servili007> have you made your own uImage?
<Dessimat0r> no
<Dessimat0r> don't know what that is
<servili007> so, what are you using that's giving you a purple screen? stock software?
<Dessimat0r> yeah, the stock software is giving a purple-tinted screen
<Dessimat0r> because it doesn't support RGB-out except with an IFDEF in the kernel
<servili007> okay, well, sunxi-3.0, which you'll be using if you build yourself, is not pure stock, and that's why display detection issues might come up
<Dessimat0r> which is not defined by default
<Dessimat0r> the one that it came with is also not stock and had the problems
<Dessimat0r> err
<Dessimat0r> is stock, sorry
<Dessimat0r> I guess
