<rqou> ugh, getting up at 6am on Monday has messed up my sleep/brain for the entire week now
<rqou> good job timezones
<rqou> why can't the earth just be flat so we don't have timezones?
<whitequark> hydrostatic pressure versus gravitation, I think

<cyrozap> MacroFab is pretty cool
<cyrozap> I'm having them make a simple board for me right now and going through the whole process has shown me just how different DFM is from just building one-offs at home.
<cyrozap> Protip: Make sure you double-check the mechanical drawings for each part you're going to use and compare that with the footprint you chose so you don't end up like me and ask them to place a through-hole component on SMT pads.

<lain> <3 macrofab
<lain> for the (low) volume I'm doing, I can't beat their service without going to china
<lain> and I've had bad experiences with china assembly
<rqou> what about "basement" assembly? :P
<lain> basement assembly is great if you have nothing better to do
<cyrozap> Speaking of basement assembly, I need to buy a microscope for teeny SMT stuff. Any brand/model recommendations?
<rqou> i have a "LUXO Corporation" microscope that fell off a truck, but i wouldn't say i *recommend* it
<rqou> it's basically "your bog-standard microscope design"
<rqou> at least the optics are reasonably simple to disassemble and clean

<zino> Although I have seen professionals use much worse scopes than Amscope, but as an amateur I need all the advantages I can get. :)

<zino> pie_: They do Europe, it just costs a shitload in shipping. Couldn't find anything equivalent in Europe, so I puckered up and took the cost.
<nats`> pie_ what do you need?
<nats`> because amscope is a pretty bad choice for real microscope and pretty good for soldering binocular
