sunshavi: do you mean "using an usb-connected hdd from fel-mode" (one otg usb for fel-mode, and usb hdd on another port ) or you have custom controler switching roles on boot ?

sunshavi: just sunxil-fel to send and boot uboot, then use the usb harddrive from uboot liek normal?
<sunshavi>
karlp: that's the way I did. probably this opens the path for me for trying more distros like libreelec or netbsd

libv: I share your opinion about img and they should have done more. But I would like to improve the current situation. My current target is to get at least an offtree driver running that is working with their binary drivers.

Ixnus: thanks, looks like a beginning of a cleanup. I dislike these "load a ton of fixed register values from a table to get a fixed result" cam drivers. So lazy, when you can do a bit of math in a function and end up with a driver that can be much more flexible and support anything from arbitrary exposure time, to arbitrary resolution.
<libv>
megi: this was me trying to make sense of that driver, to try to figure out how to make it work
<libv>
just before just moving on as this was not important, and i got 24bit csi1 working independently

megi: i hate those register tables too, in fact, it's one of the goals of my changes to what was the xfree86 via driver of 2003, which had bios derived register tables, and this worked turned into what is known as "modesetting" today.
<libv>
so this was of course the first thing i did

good to know, I'll probably try to clean it up at some point to at least to be able to get arbitrary exposure time, because having only the fixed choice of 30fps, makes it sort of useless for photography in less than ideal light conditions
<megi>
and ov5640 is used as a cam sensor on PinePhone
<libv>
a lot of busywork was in that conversion though
