Is there anyone built a kernel with LibreELEC config and make it work in Armbian?
<sbbg>
I'm wondering why I build a kernel in this manner, the kernel say it fail to mount root or cannot find init, even I gave it proper FS support and proper UUID in arbmanEnv.txt.

nope, I have only SDcard running as root.
<sbbg>
I put the libreELEC config into Armbian's build system and let it build. But it didn't work out.
<sbbg>
I notice that LibreELEC compress its root and extract itself on boot. I wonder if that would be the reason.

yeah.. it might be that you need initramfs or something for that
<KotCzarny>
knowing linux a bit might also help
<Werner>
Armbian does the same? First boot will expand the rootfs across the whole sd card.
<KotCzarny>
being able to build and boot without ramdisk is easy

Armbian seems to build initramfs as well, but not for the same purpose.
<KotCzarny>
yup
<KotCzarny>
they behave and expect different layouts etc
<KotCzarny>
still, basic test would be using kernel without ramdisk and pointing root= to the proper partition
<sbbg>
Does that behavior regulated in kernel? Or in the boot loader configuration. I did assign the proper UUID to /boot/armbianEnv.txt as far as I can tell.

<KotCzarny>
think of ramdisk as self-contained operating system
<KotCzarny>
whatever it does is up to particular distro/ramdisk
<sbbg>
ok, so I guess the behavior to extract its root or not could be regulated in initramfs, then?
<KotCzarny>
i strongly suspect you have to modify initial ramdisk path when building kernel
<sbbg>
ok, I will check that.
<KotCzarny>
because if you simply copied .config, it would contain wrong path
<sbbg>
That sounds make sense, thanks.
<sbbg>
Besides, anyone know what are the related requirements of DRM_PRIME in kernel?
<KotCzarny>
in 'menuconfig' when you press '/' and type that option, it should show you what options are required

I have hard time spotting the requirement of this drm_prime required by ffmpeg. Something like grep DRM_PRIME in all files in linux/arch did not help.
<KotCzarny>
run make menuconfig, then press '/' then type DRM_PRIME
