<ssvb> libv: somewhat more practical question, how can I share buffers between two processes using fb mali drivers?
<ssvb> is it a simple case of casting something to ump handle?
<libv> ssvb: i would guess so
<libv> ssvb: what buffers would you need to share?
<libv> it's fb, it's pretty much a single application environment
rellla has joined #linux-sunxi
<ssvb> I would guess something like pixmap surface
<ssvb> whatever is needed to emulate x11 egl on top of fb egl
servili007 has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<ssvb> ok, I'll try to run some tests later today
<ssvb> it would be best if we could scrap x11 blobs and just use mali fb for everything
<ssvb> well, even better would be using open source drivers of course :)
<libv> :p
ZaEarl has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<libv> crap.
<libv> a20 based mele has no vga :(
<libv> hopefully hipboi will export it on his headers...
<ssvb> source?
<libv> aliexpress photos
<libv> hrm... just closed it
<libv> it still has composite, so the dacs are still there
<ssvb> here they seem to have vga - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmrDZdfujro
<libv> ah, but the smaller case of the a2000 afaict
<UserError1> do any a20 micro hdmi female / micro usb female sticks exist yet?
<libv> does a31 still have dacs?
<UserError1> How are you guys handling the A31 GPU? same way as Ubuntu touch?
<libv> UserError1: a20 is barely shipping
<UserError1> ah
<libv> UserError1: i will not handle A31 gpu
<libv> been there, done that, never again, unless paid real real well
<libv> UserError1: a20 is the one you want
<libv> andrew wafaa got one two days ago btw
<libv> clocked at proper 1.2GHz
<UserError1> hmm
<libv> should be at least 2x the speed of the a10
<UserError1> 2x IPC?
<libv> 2x A7, if that is what you mean
rz2k has joined #linux-sunxi
<libv> ssvb: anyway, wait and see, if it comes with vga, i will most likely get one
<libv> as vga is really the only option for demoing as part of a talk somewhere

<UserError1> with the new gcc 4.8 release
* Turl started avoiding linaro toolchains
<UserError1> :\
<UserError1> looks like my apt-build world linar-gcc4.8 link-time-optimization fantasy won't come to fruition
<UserError1> ;)
<Turl> I built buildroot using a linaro toolchain and init died with sigill :)
<UserError1> what ver?
<Turl> I don't recall, one that was available on the buildroot menuconfig
<UserError1> ah
vakkov has joined #linux-sunxi
<UserError1> i know they release the ubuntu filesystems precompiled
<UserError1> but a debian one fully optimized would be extra sexy on the allwinner platform
<simosx> Does anyone know whether the serial cable (TTL) gives output when you boot into Android? Or does it require a Linux distro.
<UserError1> works in windows
<Turl> simosx: yeah, it should, at least from uboot and linux
<UserError1> i used to do it to bypass carrier tether detection
<Turl> android itself doesn't print anything to it
<simosx> Turl, thanks. I get a weird error when trying to open the /dev/ttyUSB0:
<simosx> cu: open (/dev/ttyUSB0): Permission denied
<simosx> cu: /dev/ttyUSB0: Line in use
<simosx> (while the command was: sudo cu -s 115200 -l /dev/ttyUSB0)
<Turl> simosx: maybe you have something else trying to use it
<Turl> 3G modem software maybe
<Turl> I use microcom -> busybox microcom -s 115200 /dev/ttyUSB0

<UserError1> are there any lighter wifi network managers than network manager and wicd gtk ?
<Dreadlish> yup, bare wpa_supplicant
<UserError1> gui ;)
techn_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<slapin_n1> UserError1: xterm
<UserError1> doesn't provide a gui ;)
<slapin_n1> actually GUI applets just control console daemons, so you can just edit config for wpa_supplicant, I like how wpa config is done in Debian, via just standard /etc/network/interfaces, and I don't need these damn applets who bug you with stupid password requests all the time
<slapin_n1> wicd is the same to this regard
<slapin_n1> if your wifi is really dynamic and you visit lots of new places, then good luck - you better use either NM or wicd. but at least NM has several different GUIs, though.
<UserError1> i know, but i'm using it on an arm stick + lapdock
<UserError1> which has a crap touchpad and keyboard
<UserError1> so if i can do it in a few clicks instead of one click + scan + connect + enter pw
<UserError1> or any && combo of that
<UserError1> |
<UserError1> that helps
<UserError1> debating just mocking up a UI and using the python addon
<UserError1> for wifi only
<slapin_n1> UserError1: I'd use just manual setup in configs if you don't change location that often

<drachensun> has anyone looked at building U-boot for the sun7i or sun6i? I don't see any devices in boards.cfg that stand out as allwinner devices
rellla has joined #linux-sunxi
<oliv3r> drachensun: I don't think anybody has hardware yet
<oliv3r> so while making up boards that you 'think could work', we have absolutly no idea atm
<oliv3r> UserError1: allwinner leaked, amery released :p
<UserError1> :P
<drachensun> I've got a few a31 boards
<drachensun> there are quite a few tablets for sale with them
<drachensun> I've two different kinds here
<drachensun> but neither has a serial port
<eebrah> hmmm
<UserError1> i wonder if that wrapper ubuntu touch uses
<UserError1> can be used on them
<drachensun> I'm about to start working blind though
<UserError1> some of the officially supported devices use the same gpu
<oliv3r> most developers here won't really appreciate teh A31 :p powerVR
<drachensun> single cores forever then aye
<oliv3r> A20 :p
<oliv3r> and then, most probably, A40
<oliv3r> A31 is like some half assed inbetween thingie
<drachensun> oh really? you have some information from allwinner about the next chip?
<oliv3r> especially with the AR1000 baked in it
<oliv3r> A20? that's no secret
<drachensun> The A40 you mention
<oliv3r> nobody has hard information yet
<oliv3r> but rumor has it
<oliv3r> big.LITTLE architecture most likly
<oliv3r> probably *:1 cores, probably 4:!
<oliv3r> 4:1* and hopefully mali 400 mp4 or 450 maybe even
<oliv3r> but that's all hopeing and guessing really; there's very little known
<drachensun> ok
<oliv3r> eva did say, it should be announced in Q3, in one of those allwinner vids on youtube from the fair
<oliv3r> so it's deffo comming
<drachensun> I've got an A20 coming
<oliv3r> also, A31 out, A20 out, engineers gotta be working on something :)
<drachensun> but I'm not real excited about a dual core device
<oliv3r> yeah, tom is getting some A20's soon too
<oliv3r> i think most devs here don't really care for the A31
<oliv3r> also, price wise
<oliv3r> the A31 isn't that interesting
<oliv3r> A20 is supposed to be about the same price as A10
<drachensun> the tablet prices seem to verify that
<oliv3r> to put it in perspective, the 'new' mele A20 is supposed to retail for 60USD, the A31 based device for 110 USD
<UserError1> i wish they'd just shrink the a10
<UserError1> to 28nm
<drachensun> ugh I just wish more vendors had taken to the imx6q, it had open source friendly 3D and 4 cores
<oliv3r> opensource friendly, but does it have source?
<UserError1> rockchip will be the way to go once dell gets on it
<oliv3r> it all depends on source
<oliv3r> blobs are not cool anymore, and more and more manufacturers are realizing it's causing issues
<oliv3r> vendors*
<UserError1> what we need is the wrapper from ubuntu touch
<UserError1> that shit is baller
