ah, damn time difference everywhere
<Turl>
slapin_nb: yeah, he's like 11h away from me, makes it hard to find him :)
<slapin_nb>
Turl: I need to work with lots of people over the world, and everyone thinks my schedule is 9 to 5 like his in entirely his locality, damnit
<slapin_nb>
Turl: this is really annoying that you can't put normal 8h sleep into the schedule :(
<Turl>
yeah
<Turl>
slapin_nb: luckily emails exist and are asynchronous :)

<slapin_nb>
Turl: as for other guys they don't like emails, they use fb ans skype to do their corporate business
<Turl>
fb.. for business?
<Turl>
lol
<slapin_nb>
Turl: and this is really annoying, too, as I need to register new fb account every time
<Turl>
why so?

mripard_: If you could be so awesome to take a quick peek at my v2 'cry for help', that be grand. Do note that I answer some of my own questions in a reply :)
<oliv3r>
Turl: they don't have _any_ PMU at all?
<oliv3r>
Turl: only a simple DC to DC converter? for all their voltages?
shineworld has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<oliv3r>
Turl: while plausible, I find it hard to belive. Even an A10s stick, would require various voltages. ram, IO, CPU, flash periphals etc no?
<Turl>
oliv3r: yeah, no PMU at all, just passive components
<Turl>
oliv3r: that's partially why they overheated so much, you cannot scale voltages
<Turl>
bsdfox_: mripard_ was working on i2c, check his github account
Undertasker has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
vinifm has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<oliv3r>
Turl: really bad design then :p
<oliv3r>
Turl: I guess the wdt reset is really needed for those PMU less devices
<oliv3r>
Turl: I guess dt would have to tell the kernel whether wdt_restart or pmu_restart is being used. Or do we want to just make wdt the default restart method?
<Turl>
can you restart with axp?

oliv3r: I'm currently in holiday, so I have a low bandwith on reviewing patches/answering mails, sorry
<mripard_>
but that's on my todo list
<Turl>
if you have a reset method that works for all, and one that doesn't, I think there's not much to consider :)

mripard_: happy hollidays! enjoy your vacation! Don't "hobby-work"! enjoy your time.
<oliv3r>
i'm allready throwing some things around :p
<oliv3r>
Turl: I guess x86 uses ACPI and a special ASM instruction otherwise to reboot? I guess if sunxi doesn't have that, the only way IS the wdt
<oliv3r>
Turl: but if that is the reboot situation, how do you handle the poweroff situation on said devices? (Though you don't turn those devices off that often).
<oliv3r>
Turl: btw, i'm not questioning you or anybody. Just curious and picking brains :)
<oliv3r>
Turl: so what if you don't have an AXP :p
<oliv3r>
or PMU*
<Turl>
oliv3r: can you shut those down? I would not expect so
<oliv3r>
i think you cannot 'poweroff' through the CPU. x86 uses ACPI now (APM before) which I'm sure controls some powermanagement IC (bios back then?)
<Turl>
you could busyloop forever, or shut down all interrupts and run wfi
<oliv3r>
Turl: well that would drain your battery
<Turl>
devices without axp don't have batteries :)
<oliv3r>
Turl: so I guess we can say, PMU less devices are all HDMI sticks
<Turl>
yeah, but not all hdmi sticks are PMU-less
<oliv3r>
Turl: ok one more brain fart. Why not force execution of 0xBROM to force a reset?
<oliv3r>
Turl: i guess they figured out that wasn't very smart ;)
<Turl>
oliv3r: maybe it's been overwritten? no idea tbh
<Turl>
ram is initialized, MMU working, etc, not sure if BROM would like it either
<oliv3r>
Turl: i'll dig into it for fun :p
<oliv3r>
to bed now though
<Turl>
good night :)
