<Skaag> if I just compiled some more modules can I just copy lib/modules/3.0.62/ and modprobe?
<Skaag> or will I have to reboot?
<rm> you can
<rm> but if your modules aren't for your exact version of the kernel, they won't load
<rm> also run "depmod -a" each time you add modules
<Skaag> good idea
<Skaag> I just modprobed videodev and it loaded
<Skaag> but I still don't see the /dev/video* devices in /dev/
<Skaag> ok it was uvcvideo that I needed to load

<oliv3r> theOzzieRat: rtl8189 seems to be a brother device to rtl8187, which is USB
<oliv3r> doubt many sdio drivers exist in linux today; but with that knowledge it should be easily portable
<oliv3r> theOzzieRat: http://wiki.debian.org/rtl818x is all i foubd

<slapin_nb> have you ever been axplaining to someone that 2 * 2 == 4 and been told you're drunk and should STFU? while being right at the end, the frustration never goes away :(

<oliv3r> slapin_nb: lol yes! well not 2*2, and not even while drunk, but being told stfu when you are right; it is frustrating :)

<oliv3r> slapin_nb: ethernet phy, ... did you check digikey? :)
<slapin_nb> oliv3r: I need some docs to read, for fiber phy, I don't need copper one...

<theOzzieRat> oliv3r, thanks for the info. late here now so I will have a good look in the morning with some STRONG coffee.
<theOzzieRat> I expect we will see that chip in a lot of new devices soon. There is no info about it on the realtek site, but that doesn't surprise me.

<oliv3r> theOzzieRat: currently a lot of devices connect via USB, maybe becasue it's faster then sdio?
<oliv3r> don't know what qualifies as a Optical phy

<hramrach> Turl: what did you test with the dma patches?
ganbold_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<slapin_nb> oliv3r: fiber phy is like DP83620 from TI
* slapin_nb looks for ethernet transformer with 4kV isolation...
<hramrach> hehe
<hramrach> DP83620 does it ;-)
<hramrach> one of the use for fiber is very good insulation properties :)
<hramrach> oliv3r: I don't think USB has better perf than SDIO but USB is way easier to find
<hramrach> can use same chip onboard, notebook extension card, USB dongle
<hramrach> USB is abysmal performace-wise so I would not be surprised if SDIO was faster
<oliv3r> i do agree i guess if throughput can be identical
<oliv3r> but yet, they choose to use onboard USB :S
<hramrach> USB chips will be likely way cheaper
