<vagrantc> could probably reverse-engineer my hacked up cable, too :)

<mmind00> hanetzer: http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-rockchip/2015-July/003429.html ... so cut open an usb cable and connect tx to the white and rx to the green wire :-)
<mmind00> hanetzer: + set the needed commandline option
<hanetzer> mmind00: nifty. what about for u-boot itself?
<mmind00> hanetzer: so far nobody implemented it there ... in theory you could do that there as well
<mmind00> mateo`: and for general patch handling, we only want _one_ dts for bob in the mainline kernel - the mass production variant, as the older ones are generally only used by CrOS people internally and at some point thrown on the trash
<mmind00> mateo`: so take the highes -bob-rX.dts and name it -bob.dts ... CrOS does follows my sorting wishes mostly, but you can check kevin for reference
<mmind00> mateo`: also, please fold the dts-specific patches into one before submitting
<mmind00> mateo`: and as for submitting itself ... check scripts/get_maintainer.pl $patch and scripts/checkpatch.pl $patch
<mmind00> mateo`: git send-email is the tool that helps you in sending patches correctly
<mmind00> mateo`: and please send devicetree stuff and drm changes separately
ganbold has quit [Quit: This computer has gone to sleep]
<hanetzer> git send-email is helpful :)
<mateo`> mmind00: thanks
<mateo`> mmind00: any ideas regarding how to disable the speaker output ?
<mmind00> mateo`: sorry, sound is that one topic, I never seem to really look at

<hanetzer> mmind00: so theoretically I could make a small breakout board to hook up to then, eh?
<mmind00> hanetzer: yep ... although I just cut open an usb cable to and routed the individual cables to a new connector :-)
<hanetzer> https://www.amazon.com/Type-Male-Plug-Breakout-Board/dp/B01MRK0REP << buy one of these and put pins on it :P
<hanetzer> 25 more packages to merge/build
<hanetzer> I really spoiled myself with ryzen. qemu-arm chroot is hella slow. hopefully real arm is faster :P
<beeble> if you hope to build faster on your rkXXXX then in a current gen x86 qemu chroot i have bad news for you
<hanetzer> beeble: dunno. native arm on a slower cpu vs qemulated arm on a faster cpu, nothing I'm experienced with :P
<beeble> qemu is faster in most cases if you are not in thunderx, x-gene, centriq regiions
<hanetzer> as in, really old stuff?
<beeble> no these chips are more in xeon like performance regions
<hanetzer> ah gotcher
* hanetzer has been eyeballing threadripper a bit
<hanetzer> though, I would really love a talos workstation :P
<hanetzer> also, with regards to 'fastboot' is that the same fastboot from android and friends?
<beeble> depending on what you are talking about. u-boot fastboot command?
<hanetzer> yeah
<beeble> that's a fastboot implementation on top of the gadget driver that has i think almost everything you would know from android
<hanetzer> k. and on the subject of u-boot commands, the gpt u-boot knows is the same as linux's gdisk, yeah?
<beeble> you will act on the same partition table. there may not be feature parity, but iirc is u-boot pretty complete
<hanetzer> gotcha. I think I my emmc has a busted partition layout
<hanetzer> I think I'll use the default layout programmed into u-boot since its convenient
<hanetzer> wheee, here's the fun part: building gcc :P
