<apc>
you've joined team gridcoin on all whitelisted projects?
<BlockCubed>
correct
<BlockCubed>
I am just doing one
<BlockCubed>
for now
<apc>
how long has it been running?
<BlockCubed>
3 hours
<[-SaRaFiNa-]>
Bah-weep-graaaaagnah wheep nini bong! Is it raining time? 1 GRC for 10 lucky users every 3 hours! Don't forget to tip me to keep the rain going!
<[-SaRaFiNa-]>

<GRCtip>
Sorry [-SaRaFiNa-], you don't have enough funds (you're 4.03555005 GRC short).
<apc>
give it at least 24 to propagate. just keep crunching in the mean time. you'll get credit for all your work
<BlockCubed>
ok for sure
<BlockCubed>
will boot up ye olde raspberry pi then
<BlockCubed>
maybe another machine or two
<BlockCubed>
thank you
<BlockCubed>
I think my wallet is stroking out at the moment though
<apc>
:)
<BlockCubed>
sucking up all the processors
<BlockCubed>
it has been steadily at about 50%
<BlockCubed>
what gives
<apc>
dunno there. is it still trying to sync? did you download a snapshot first? rebuild block chain -> download blocks
<BlockCubed>
yeah I did that
<BlockCubed>
even downloaded it manually
<BlockCubed>
How do I tell if it is trying to sync
<BlockCubed>
well
<apc>
it'll just say out of sync
<apc>
and the block count will increase
<BlockCubed>
ok it says synching and no ballance reserve at stake
<BlockCubed>
yeah its out of sync
<BlockCubed>
block count is rising
<apc>
ok then it's still alive and chewing on things
<BlockCubed>
awesome
<BlockCubed>
does it have to be open to receive credit or just to sync up
DirtyOne has joined #gridcoin
<apc>
only needs to be open to receive payments. your credits are all stored with boinc
<BlockCubed>
excellent
<Bouowmx>
Nit-picking: Blockchain, not BOINC
<apc>
also needs to be open to receive staking interest, but that's for a sizable balance
<apc>
I bow to bouowmx's greater experience
<BlockCubed>
ok so keep open at all times
<Bouowmx>
That's fine
<BlockCubed>
ok now is there a way to track which whitelisted projects I will receive the most coin from
<[-SaRaFiNa-]>
Linked by Bouowmx - Katiee's GRC Magnitude/Earnings Calculator
<Bouowmx>
Run a CPU-only project and a GPU project
<apc>
your magnitude basically
<apc>
where's the formula for what it means?
<apc>
!mag
<fediverse>
you can see your magnitude in many ways, e.g. type in the debug console: list explainmagnitude OR use: !cpid help
<apc>
hrm
<Bouowmx>
According to Katiee: Project magnitude = (RAC / average RAC) / Whitelist Num * Neural network multiplier
<apc>
your magnitude basically boils down to the relative amount of your contribution compared to the others on the project. so fewer contributors with lower average credit means your credits carry more weight, more magnitude
<apc>
ah yeah
<DirtyOne>
Hello everybody
<fediverse>
hello, to all those who bow down to speculating Gridcoin Gods!

Same here - 8 connections seems to be the normal number, but there must be a way to increase the number. customminer port 9332?
<customminer>
9332 is the port to allow inbound connections
<customminer>
listen=1 should be enough to get more connections, perhaps your firewall is in the way? Over time when correctly configured your connection count will increase.
<Mercosity>
Sounds like a scam. Reading the text it certainly wasn't written by a person who's 1st language is english and has been badly checked for spelling and grammar. When ever I see that it makes me concerned, not because it's a non english speaker/writer but no up front commitment to language checking smacks of quickly translated and'or put together.

Though, in a 4 core system that's almost correct, I guess. Seems a lot for a GPU job.

GPU tasks use just shaders, and not texture mapping units (TMU) and render output units (ROP)?
<apc>
I would think so, but it could just depend on the task *shrug*
<Mercosity>
apc I've still got 1 system which has update and on restart it goes back to original settings. This happens again and again. So you're not the oly one.

ravon , ive used them... they suck you have to have super clean power and AC is super dirty and noisy in the sense of RFI.. they are mad slow you wont get by a few megabits threw romex as its not designed for it... also depending on where you are putting 1 end and the other they have to be on the same breaker as it wont jump from circuit to circuit.. Yes your room is shielded from RF , wifi sucks in many houses... but powerline ethernet adapters are not the
<jamezz>
answer... repeater , higher gain antennas , linear amp and other options might be choice...
<jamezz>
best use for an old wrt54g that was flashed with ddwrt = wifi repeater

But this house is amazing, I have never seen anything like it. If I move into the dining room, the wifi drops dead. Even though it's just a tiny wall extra compared to the rest of the living room.

but in terms of wiring yes
<jamezz>
well fuck dude
<jamezz>
um
<fkinglag>
um
<jamezz>
ok ya overcrowded channels , you have no overhead
<ravon>
Might as well try it out. Right now I feel like I've tried it all but hanging the router by the lamp in the middle of the room.
<jamezz>
set that shit up with multi channels multi ssid's
<ravon>
Well, 22 clients is all-in all. Many connect via ethernet on the garage wifi.
<jamezz>
put the kids on another channel
<jamezz>
put the shit that dont need to talk to each other on another channel
<jamezz>
ive not had coffee , so hard to explain the channel spacing when it comes to threwput and nessesary for sustaining a connection
<jamezz>
ok
<jamezz>
well , iuno then
<ravon>
I know what you're getting at, though there aren't maybe more than 2-3 devices requiring bandwidth at one time. The TV, my phone and my wive's phone.
<jamezz>
ive had shitty experiance with powerline when i worked for 2wire
<jamezz>
ahhh ok
<ravon>
The house is just wifi-haunted
<jamezz>
as long as you get where i was going with it , and not really 22 devices on at once
<ravon>
They happen to have an IP address but they aren't doing much.
<jamezz>
well they are doing more then you think
<ravon>
Not 200-300MBit much :)
<jamezz>
just because no dl/ul there is handshakes and backround
<ravon>
(or even 56)
<jamezz>
but
<ravon>
doh, 54
<jamezz>
bs
<jamezz>
right there
<jamezz>
you think 22 devices wouldnt be possible idle to fill the limitations of bandspace on 1 wireless channel without internet activity
<jamezz>
heh , that be like a buncha truckers on channel 19 on the cb in 1 parkinglot trying to talk
<jamezz>
heh
<jamezz>
but ok ill shut up , get your power line... i was trying to help... but you apparently have it figured out
<ravon>
No, they wouldn't. And if they were they aren't idling.
<ravon>
2MBit handshaking going on?
<ravon>
I haven't even seen Windows Update download at that rate.
<ravon>
Though maybe that's why it's so slow.
<ravon>
I will get my power line and if it is as bad as you say I'll return it. At least now I have an opinion which I hadn't before. So thanks :)

<caraka>
my docker wallet was intended as my cold wallet
<caraka>

<NeuralMiner>
auto unlock wont work on a portable wallet
<jamezz>
not in pocket?
<caraka>
but otherwise running to collect interest at least once per week.
<jamezz>
um why not? it loads the same config file... and i have portablized my wallet... it was originally on this laptop , and i moved it to my desktop
<jamezz>
its not hard to do
<NeuralMiner>
i know you're one of those whales, caraka
<caraka>
I wich I was a whale NeuralMiner!
<NeuralMiner>
the auto unlock uses a hash of your hardware. once you plug it into another machine, it'll be a different hash and wont work.
<Mercosity>
Thar she blows!!
<NeuralMiner>
i replaced a hard drive in my pc last week and had to redo my autounlock because of it.
<caraka>
I did manage to buy a bit so I am about baracuda size :D
<NeuralMiner>
lol
<jamezz>
ahh ok , i dont really understand encryption tbh
<customminer>
Mercosity: good to hear :)
<customminer>
Morning caraka
<caraka>
the encrytption of the wallet is different from the autounlock
<jamezz>
and so , it based off other hardware herm there is that weird windows feature you can turn off now
<jamezz>
encryption , dude the pw and encryption for autounlock are what i grrrr
<caraka>
autounlock uses the dick and machne id as part of the hash, so is not portable
<jamezz>
talking same thing so no its not different
<NeuralMiner>
lol^ that typo
<caraka>

<jamezz>

mrtrousers, what does ls -la ~/.GridcoinResearch say? Anything not owned by you?
<ravon>
The boost error seems fishy though. If you didn't have permission it would say so, but now it cannot write to the FS at all.

IM trying to change permissions to read and write, i think is chmod something..
<ravon>
chown -R user:group. In my case it's chown -R marco:marco ~/.GridcoinResearch
<Velociraptor85>
ravon: my cpids listed in the debug console are all the same but dont match my actual cpid in the boinc neither the one from my bam account nor the one from my host

even when i do the execute rest cpids command it does not do any thing

or will bam do it for me ?
<customminer>
If you run all projects on one boinc manager client it'll sync after a couple days.
<ravon>
Velociraptor85, I had tons of cpid problems the other day. What I was suggested to do here was to assign all the projects to one boinc client and just let it run. Eventually (<24h) the CPIDs would align.
<ravon>
Which they did. I just had to restart my Gridcoin wallet the day after.

<[-SaRaFiNa-]>
!rain 10 10

<FreshFund>
Thanks customminer and jamezz I think i figured it out
<customminer>
mrtrousers: They'll not switch to BOINC. You could potentially look into modifying the neural network to store data outside of BOINC, but then you're going to need to prove F@H account ownership somehow.
<customminer>
mrtrousers: Yeah it's POW.
<mrtrousers>
I think it be great if f@h gets integrated
<customminer>
NeuralMiner: On the upside, i've been working on the project rain site https://github.com/grctest/project-rain-site/commits/master All the code done, just need to do a bunch of tests, fix up the cosmetics, implement security (captcha, etc), then it's building the docker image and going live!

In my modest opinion f@h integration would be a great milestone, a lot of people remember those proteins folding in their laptop screens and ps3's..
<customminer>
mrtrousers: ps3's no longer do f@h :(
<mrtrousers>
I know we have rosetta but its not the same..
