<nicksydney> wpwrak: maybe try both balun and see which one is better ?
<nicksydney> wpwrak: what if you don't use R2 (0) what will happen ?
<wpwrak> (asterisk) a wildcard, to be expanded by humans :)
<nicksydney> pg 3 - pin 11,12,14,18,20,29 are not connected going to be left like that ? or maybe add a hackable pad/TP ? :)
<wpwrak> (R2) you mean omit the component ? the signal should be very weak then. you'd still send/receive *something* but with heavy loss
<wpwrak> hmm, seems that i screwed up DP/DM, too :-( well, at least that'll be easy to fix ...
<nicksydney> wpwrak: (R2) this is where I still don't understand .... R2 is a resistor and it supposed to be used for dropping current but in this case it is used to "strengthen" the signal ? thought normally use a capacitor ?
<wpwrak> (baluns) maybe later. swapping baluns means making and populating different boards. so it's not cheap. i'll get the parts, though
<wpwrak> (r2) no, it's just there to connect. it's a zero-ohm resistor.
<wpwrak> it could become an inductor, though. so it would (slightly) dampen high-frequency components of the signal.

<nicksydney> normally if you don't use 0 ohm what other component can you use ?
<wpwrak> in this case ? an inductor
<wpwrak> in general, a trace or a wire :)
<wpwrak> grmbl. also got the SPI pins on the cc2543 wrong :-( well, also easy to fix ...
<nicksydney> ok got to run going to do daddy duty :0

<nicksydney> wpwrak: what if we increase the track instead of putting 0 R ? will that helped more ?
dos1 has joined #qi-hardware
<wpwrak> that's not the idea :) the idea is to have a place to put a component if we want to tune the antenna
<wpwrak> right now, i'm not interested in tuning, so i just place a 0R (R2) in series and nothing (the NC cap, C3) in parallel
<wpwrak> NC = not connected / not placed / ...

<DocScrutinizer05> other usual tags used instead of NC: DNP (do not populate), DNC, DNI (do not install)
<DocScrutinizer05> particularly since "NC" is often used on switches for "Normally Closed" - as opposed to "Normally Open" (some say N means "Neutral" here, the semantics is the same though)
<DocScrutinizer05> (also C may mean "Contact")
<DocScrutinizer05> so NeitralContact is another valid expansion of NC
<DocScrutinizer05> neutral even

<wpwrak> argh. with the heat, the junk in my cranial cavity simply doesn't work :-(
<wpwrak> milled a board and wondered why i had such a hard time to get it to start in the lower left corner. turns out if had the array index set to 1 and not 0. stupid ...
<DocScrutinizer05> send half of that heat over here, we can use it

<wpwrak> oh, and while i was taking siestas, your little project leaped over 60k. yet another nice round number. congrats !

<DocScrutinizer05> yeah, and just another 1500 donation for prototype made it leap over 61k, and made me aware that the meanwhile 8 prototypes (+ 1 series device per proto) had not been counted to the number of devices. So we leaped the 300 devices too :-D

<larsc> hm, if prototypes make so much more money you should make a business out of selling prototypes, once the prototypes are done move on to the next project ;)

<DocScrutinizer05> I don't think prototypes make much money, neither are they a huge selling qty, nor is the win margin better than for normal series devices. Rather the opposite, since 1500 gets you one prototype PLUs one series device for ~700 or even more. It might turn out the prototypes are the business with smallest win margin
