<nicksydney> interesting read "If You're Waiting For An "Economic Collapse", Just Look At What Is Happening To Europe" --> http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-01-09/if-youre-waiting-economic-collapse-just-look-what-happening-europe
<wpwrak_> nicksydney: just get a little dremel :)
<wpwrak_> not as cheap but it'll be useful for many more things
<wpwrak_> e.g., cutting the PCB edge
<nicksydney> yeah it cost almost as mush as scope :) so trying to avoid spending it
<wpwrak_> oh. parcel already arrived in BUE. that was fast. now, how did they do that ...
<wpwrak_> hmm, very mysterious. it says 11:06pm but it's only 09:55pm
<nicksydney> wpwrak_: close to my intuition prediction :)
<wpwrak_> let's see what that time travel thing means :)

<nicksydney> question : under what circumstances do we need to use 0 ohm resistor ?
<wpwrak_> a) we can use them as a "switch". b) sometimes for making a "bridge" to run traces under
<wpwrak_> DocScrutinizer05: yeah, any brand will do :)
<nicksydney> wpwrak_: thanks..got it now :)

<wpwrak_> ah yes, makes sense to distinguish this from a)
<nicksydney> DocScrutinizer05: you mean to measure current for (c) ?
<nicksydney> got delivery of this today http://www.ebay.com/itm/310717070508 and saw the datasheet for the boost regulator http://ja3hsv.blog.ocn.ne.jp/blog/files/xl6009e1-switch-mode-ic.pdf and there is calculation to calculate the voltage output - 1.25 *(1+R2/R1) ... how did they get 1.25 from ?
<wpwrak_> hmm. just got a newsletter "Spansion Quarterly News". one of their headlines: "News: Spansion Plays Hardball With Patents". goes on with
<wpwrak_> "In addition to the company's on-going legal battle with Taiwan's Macronix, Spansion is now turning up the heat on anyone"
<DocScrutinizer05> (c)?
<wpwrak_> they have an interesting concept of advertizement ;-)
<nicksydney> DocScrutinizer05: "c) for inserting amp-meter"
<DocScrutinizer05> yes, that's the use of an ampere-meter
<DocScrutinizer05> you frequently use 0R to open up a trace to insert an ampere-meter to check power consumption of some subsystem
<nicksydney> interesting..so it's like putting a "breakpoint" in software :)
<DocScrutinizer05> yes
<nicksydney> or put a logging :)
<larsc> wpwrak_: maybe that was a shareholder newsletter
<DocScrutinizer05> when you may do that regarding circuit, you also may decide to use a 0.01Ohm resistor instead, and simply probe for the voltage across it
<wpwrak_> or maybe i accidently got on the patent troll mailing list ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05> not as simple as an ampere-meter, but more convenient in other aspects
<nicksydney> DocScrutinizer05: if you design something when or where do you normally place 0.01resistor ?
<nicksydney> is it when you are uncertain of something as you are still developing the design ?

<DocScrutinizer05> yes, for example

<whitequark> what the fuck exactly is russian post trying to do here? http://gdeposylka.ru/RB986639092HK
<whitequark> tl;dr: they have sorted it three times, delivered it to the post office two times, and now it's sorting the fourth time
<whitequark> I don't even
<whitequark> were the first two times too quick for them?!

<whitequark> tis is so annoying :(
<larsc> well maybe it is some kind of onion routing
<whitequark> or tey're ust playing pong
<whitequark> i wonder i parcels ae ttl and wat appens wen it expires
<larsc> one of the postal workers takes it home
<wpwrak_> so that's how whitequark types when he's very excited ? or is it just the vodka ? :)
<whitequark> wpwrak_: I've told you about that hairline crack in my keyboard earlier
<whitequark> so when I'm near my bluetooth one which is too heavy to carry around, I type properly
