<amatus> what are fonds?
<DocScrutinizer05> sorry
<DocScrutinizer05> :-)
<DocScrutinizer05> F5
<amatus> yay
<xman> Funds I would guess :D
<zakx> double? wow
<xman> Yeah, that's pretty amazing actually!!
<DocScrutinizer05> yeah, there are believers out there :-)
<DocScrutinizer05> I didn't find investors, I found a sponsor though (or rather he found us)
<xman> I think the apple thing might be showing ppl how important projects like these are
<DocScrutinizer05> I wonder how long until FSF really notices what's up
<saper> in what sense should FSF notice?
<DocScrutinizer05> they could realize that this is a project worth supporting
<saper> ah, right
<xman> perhaps once neo900 is the only hardware that can be considered the safest and most free.
<DocScrutinizer05> it is already
<DocScrutinizer05> you're even free to evaluate the design, down the the single resistor, unlike any other similar project ever before
<zakx> so, is this a good time to start a rumour that the mystery sponsor is affiliated with the NSA?
<zakx> 8)
<DocScrutinizer05> no, we have no links to NSA we know of, and sponsors have no saying in security releavnt details of the design
<DocScrutinizer05> we're open to criticism and suggestions though, by everybody
<xman> yeah, I agree. Just saying there are more propionate endeavors that run on android that fools people into thinking they are a real option.
<zakx> now that we are on-topic, what say do sponsors have?
<DocScrutinizer05> basically none
<DocScrutinizer05> it's still *my* project
<DocScrutinizer05> and any change pushed by anybody, sponsor or not, has to pass my scrutiny
<saper> $400k for education/speaking/conf, $200k for GNU project, $200k for GPL compliance, they yearly budget does not seem to be big
<DocScrutinizer05> I'd be happy about a 2% of that already :-)

<DocScrutinizer05> and actually organizations like FSF could even preorder a few dozen devices for all their employees or whatever, instead of doing mere sponsorship
<saper> maybe neo should rebrand as GNU/neo ;)
<DocScrutinizer05> we can even build to order, as long as the changes fit into our design. Don't like the WLAN&BT module? ok, we can leave that out if you don't like it
<DocScrutinizer05> (not that this would save a single buck on production cost)
<DocScrutinizer05> we even can leave out the WWAN module (aka modem) and you get a freecalypso from spacefalcon
<DocScrutinizer05> ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05> you need to provide the latter though
<DocScrutinizer05> Neo900 doesn't build nor source them
<DocScrutinizer05> the footprint anyway is well defined

<xman> So at what point will you actually get the funds? And does this help with the timeline?
<DocScrutinizer05> sure that helps with the timeline since it allows us to source (more) N900 as soon as we find a good source
<DocScrutinizer05> the "when" is supposed to be finally answered through completion in 5 weeks
<xman> Cool, I've just learned that until you have the money in the bank it not your ..:D
<DocScrutinizer05> that's why I don't talk presence but future
<xman> Yup, still amke me happy to hear.
<DocScrutinizer05> that's why I share it to you :-)
<xman> *makes
<DocScrutinizer05> (timeline) it also allows us more options to chose from, for layout
<DocScrutinizer05> and finally it gives me some relief from stress which helps a lot to come to pace again after the depressing experience with paypal and other related stuff
<xman> Yeah, I can completely understand that.
<DocScrutinizer05> so spread the happy news! :-)
<xman> Will do
<DocScrutinizer05> completely off topic, just for sympathy: <dcht00> New CHT hackbase subseason CHT4-D, MAY/JUNE 2016 @ http://next.totalism.org
<DocScrutinizer05> *this* is really avantgarde
<xman> Would'nt that be cool, to only work 20hr a month on something that is forward thinking :D
<xman> I don't even have time to help yet with the promised neo pr help :( .. yet

<hellekin> xman: glad you mentioned it. If you have ideas you can fill me in.
<xman> hellekin: My goal is to gather a real profile of our target users, Then to figure out what our target is for selling, Then agree on final target users and make a few different ads/marketing etc, then to gather high quality images/3d images etc. then make initially mockups get feedback iterate to completion. <hellekin> 256 characters limit xman. But yes, that sounds like a good plan. How do you envion gathering this information? Through a poll or some other methods?
<xman> pt2,: initially mockups get feedback iterate to completion. Lot's of other details I"m leaving out. The most important thing is making sure we agree on our target users. Spending time an energy on people who will most likely won't use it.
<xman> I would try to do as much on talk.maemo.org as possible. But could also plan IRC meetups too.
<xman> polls could work too
<hellekin> xman: I was wondering whether there's an API on talk.mo to integrate the forums into a web page (turning the topic into a comment thread). I expect it to require action from talk.mo to authorize such integration (CORS / X-Frame-Options), or to use RSS..
<hellekin> polls on talk.mo :)

<DocScrutinizer05> in our case the product defines the target group, not the other way around
<DocScrutinizer05> so our target group is whoever finds this product interesting. We should design all PR in a way so all those who might actually benefit from using Neo900 have a way to recognize this
<xman> Yup, don't want to miss opportunities. But that part of building the profiles of our main targets. Then you can branch out to others as needed.
<xman> You have the linux lover, the hobbies, the privacy advocate, the raspberry Pi type, debian purist, etc
<xman> We'll need to figure out who and what is the biggest target or a segment that needs a very simplistic message. I would probably say we start will maybe 3, make them solid and then see feedback and update of expand.
<DocScrutinizer05> we need to emphasize the unique features which are: free choice of OS since completely 'open' (aka documented), no tivoization either; modem isolation and absolutely unique sandboxing&monitoring system for protection against attacks on baseband; existing maemo community and apps with a *huge* knowledge base; hackerfriendly thanks to HB for arbitrary extensions like on RPi.
<DocScrutinizer05> Our target groups come naturally from that
<xman> Yup agree
<xman> But keep in mind that there will be a segment of people that may not be tech savvy enough to understand all of those unique feature, but want and may use the device.
<DocScrutinizer05> hardly
<DocScrutinizer05> I'd not even suggest a N900 to those people
<xman> haha
<DocScrutinizer05> so our target group is pretty clear: N900 lovers and (ex) Openmoko fans
<xman> But if we are successful with the campaign /PRwe may have to deal with them
<DocScrutinizer05> plus all those who missed the two and only recently found out about the Neo900 though they would have bought a Freerunner or N900 if only they had not been stopped by whatever
<xman> I'm not disagreeing. I guess that what the process is for to hash it out
<DocScrutinizer05> sorry, afk for the rest of the night
<xman> hmm, not sure I understand what your saying there.
<xman> afk?
<DocScrutinizer05> what I'm saying is: we got customers like "I seen a N900 at a friend, and found out they are not produced anymore. :-/ Should I get a used one or is there a better alternative already?"
<DocScrutinizer05> ~wtf afk
<infobot> AFK: away from keyboard
<xman> ah, thx
<DocScrutinizer05> we still see new users every other week, over at #maemo
<xman> Yup, I think we're agreeing. I think it will be great. And will hopefully bring some more attention to the project.
<DocScrutinizer05> some few are not happy and sell the N900 after a short while, most think it's the best device they ever seen or heard of
<DocScrutinizer05> I wouldn't want to attract the unhappy ones to Neo900
<DocScrutinizer05> cheers
<xman> heh, I hear yah. But hard to control, especially if it starts to get the "COOL HW" to have buzz.
<xman> cheers
