<openbot_> DocScrutinizer05 - confirmed by talking to my isp
<openbot_> they openly do extortion
<openbot_> i am a small fish
<openbot_> i cannot use any router else they charge for it
<openbot_> is there any other way
<openbot_> the question is when will the day come that they get burnt by fire
<openbot_> i can set up a router silently but that voilates my contract with the extortionist
<openbot_> and i just got started with this crockery i.e not enough knowledge to find a solution on my own

<enyc> DocScrutinizer05: i note, abave, there are many adapters to put second hdd/sdd in optical-drive-bay for laptops etc.... =)
<DocScrutinizer05> yep
<DocScrutinizer05> optical drives are power greedy, particularly during write mode
<enyc> I use a HP laptop where the SATA port broke along with a failed fujitsu sata hdd ;p
<DocScrutinizer05> so no problem with having a rather humble SSD there
* enyc using raid-1 of USB sticks sat inside the hdd-bay
<DocScrutinizer05> sorry, I'm busy, need to get some insurance stuff done
<enyc> one uses the usb signals from an external usb port (now wired as charging-port instead), the other uses usb signals from a mini-pcie-slot =)
<enyc> DocScrutinizer05: good luck =)
<FIQ> <openbot_> [04:07:08] they openly do extortion
<DocScrutinizer05> ta
<FIQ> at least they're open about it
<DocScrutinizer05> please when openbotty comes back, tell him those suckers basically have no means to tell apart a private (NAT) router from a PC you connected
rootman has joined #neo900
<DocScrutinizer05> what they meant prolly is "you must not replace our router on the pole with your own one" - which is pretty obvious
<DocScrutinizer05> ((no means)) it would be possible by analyzing IVs resp sequence numbers on IP packets, which in a deep analysis gives relatively good hint of how many separate OS (also in VM) are running on that internet connection
<DocScrutinizer05> this is very demanding a task to do though
<DocScrutinizer05> and they still couldn't tell apart a router from a windows PC that "shares internet via WLAN"
<DocScrutinizer05> o/

<openbot> DocScrutinizer05 yes you are right my faculty told me so when i asked
<openbot> i read like 1000 cisco pages today
<openbot> shortly i should be a network engineer
<openbot> and the good part is i have decided to get enroled to a short (6 months) networking course
<openbot> and i am damm serious
<openbot> i need to find some time or maybe substract some of my hobbies as network seems to be too imp to be ignored
<openbot> the word (extortion) seems to be wrong but some similar word would be fit i mean its just my terrible vocabulary
<openbot> about 'openly' yes they do it openly in my whole nebiourhood
<openbot> i did some research to their behaviour and found out the core reason
<openbot> it is like smashing all the apples in a basket because of a few rotten apples
<openbot> the reason to charge for a router is some fellow students became ISP'S i.e they applied for a conection and shared it to a dozen dividing the costs
<openbot> so the isp is in loss "thats their statement"
<openbot> so they earn some of the lost revenue by this wicked method
<openbot> which is prevalent in my area as people do not know router is a intregal part of the internet
<openbot> hell the internet is faceb ook or maybe twitter or whatsapp or a giant hard disk from where they can download stuff iand they think router charges are standerd and pay for a router
<openbot> i.e only a few asked them i.e i am one of the half adozen
<openbot> its like the local isp embedded the idea to peoples brains
<openbot> is (manipulation the correct word then ?
<openbot> i talked to them again and didnt hold back
<openbot> charges per month for a router is 200 rs (3.01) us dollars
<openbot> 200 rs is a little pocket money for students but it matters for many spending it uselessly at least in a devloping country like india
<openbot> the strange part is i got offerd a rs 50 (usd 0.75) when i started to investigate more and more
<openbot> its like bribing but insted actually taking money
<openbot> for 520 rs (7.82 usd) they provide 512kb bandwith for a month then add up another rs 200 (3.01) so it goes to 720 rs (10.83 usd)
<openbot> that does hurt my small pocket
<openbot> and 512 kbps is just terrible i.e actual speed is like 60kbps stable or at lucky times goes up to like 80kpbs stable sometimes jumping to 120 or 150 kbps
<openbot> so naturally one would go for 1mbps link that costs 850 rs (12.78 usd) then add 200 (3.01 usd ) to it
<openbot> its crazy
<openbot> but not crazy if one can implement the idea and generate additional revenue
<openbot> it becomes a standerd
<openbot> :)
<Psykus> so does anyone use a vanilla n900 as their daily driver phone still? considering picking one up off craigslist for $65
openbot has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<pigeons> check coverage in your area, some usa areas carriers have been removing older equipment for more lte coverage and i now have another phone
<pigeons> but thats a good price, you can use the case etc for your neo900
<Psykus> ouch
openbot has joined #neo900
<openbot> thats a good price if you need its a fair deal Psykus
<openbot> DocScrutinizer05 - router as in wired ethernet or a wireless wifi router
vakkov has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<openbot> DocScrutinizer05 - and no i do not have any intentions to replace the switch or router or whatever multilanport device the pole houses
<openbot> DocScrutinizer05 - do you really think i am that crazy :O
<openbot> i dont know what to do next accept the discount pay full fee or get the line disconected and be done with limited 2g or exotic 3g as before
<openbot> i feel terrible
<openbot> its like the only option you have and they take advantage of it
<openbot> but for sure wired internet is a whole diffrent experience

<openbot> touter
<DocScrutinizer51> router
<openbot> you do terrible typos too ?
<DocScrutinizer51> keep your 'single PC' line
<openbot> yes
<openbot> what is single pc line
<DocScrutinizer51> the cable that comes from that pole
<openbot> i got 2 lappies
<openbot> one good vaio that i am going to sell
<openbot> and a working hp
<DocScrutinizer51> connect that cable to a 7USD wet54g and everything fine
<openbot> ebay.in
<openbot> can you check there
<DocScrutinizer51> not now
<DocScrutinizer51> later
<openbot> i was looking for routers too but cant select one
<openbot> ok sure
<openbot> any input at any time is more than welcome
<DocScrutinizer51> stay tuned
