jancborchardt: I would assume it depends on the level of security neurosis you wish to engage in. ownCloud is definitely doing a lot of right things security-wise, but isolation of each file in its own container is a entirely different playground.
<ocdtrekkie>
It also has benefits and costs to doing either way.

On the other hand, ownCloud currently can encrypt those files, and Sandstorm cannot.

jancborchardt: My apologies, I should have phrased my comment better. I didn't meant to say that ownCloud is bad at security but rather than Sandstorm goes above and beyond in security. The parent poster seemed to have (probably unfair) security concerns, and I just thought it made sense to say "if you like self-hosting and you like security you should see what we're working on".

jancborchardt: Ugh, thinking about it, I see how this all probably sounds really offensive if you aren't familiar with Sandstorm's security model and all the wacky experimental things we're doing... I'm not really sure how to explain but I hope you'll get a chance to look at our security model document and then maybe it will make sense.

kentonv yeah, it’s all cool. :) I’ll let Lukas reply to the email cause he knows more about the topic
<kentonv>
:)
<kentonv>
jancborchardt also honestly I expected that the comment I was replying to would be downvoted because frankly it was stupid... but then it ended up at the top of the thread.
<jancborchardt>
yeah, I know it’s always tempting to comment on these threads with own projects. :) Let’s hope someone works on pushing ownCloud as a Sandstorm app soon then
<kentonv>
zarvox: That guy emailed me back in May. It is interesting, and it would be cool to see Sandstorm apps built on it some day for better security, though it is a "you have to rewrite everything" kind of change unfortunately.
