<nuuuciano> someone knows where to read about the pinebook mainline kernel status?
<anarsoul|2> nuuuciano: it should mostly work on https://github.com/anarsoul/linux-2.6/tree/sunxi64-4.15-rc1-anarsoul
<anarsoul|2> video decoding, DVFS and suspend are not supported
<anarsoul|2> (I haven't tested sound on pinebook, but it works on pine64)
<nuuuciano> anarsoul|2, oh, thanks! will read there... btw, hdmi output works ok?
<anarsoul|2> yes
<anarsoul|2> including sound
<anarsoul|2> thanks to jernej :)
<nuuuciano> great!

<silviop> what is the status of mpi-dsi support in sunxi/u-boot ? I see only a patch to kernel but not u-boot support
<mripard> silviop: this is not supported at the moment
<silviop> when your patch would be merged in mainline kernel , porting to uboot will be "automatic" ?
<mripard> no
<mripard> one has to write a driver for uboot as well
dongbian has joined #linux-sunxi
<silviop> In boot process with a "future" mpi-dsi kernel enabled , i will see blank screen during uboot and text or X screen after kernel start ?
<mripard> yep
dongbian has left #linux-sunxi [#linux-sunxi]
<silviop> ok i have a tablet with A33 and mpi-dsi that boot ok (i can ssh to it no lcd) i will try your patch
<mripard> you know what panel it has and to initialise it ?
<silviop> there is other place than mailing list where to get it ?
<silviop> i suppose i have to mess with dsi file
<silviop> i have decoded android fex file
<mripard> this is not enough
<mripard> you have to know the sequence of instructions to send to the display
<mripard> and that's not in the fex file
<silviop> I add a wiki page of my tablet http://linux-sunxi.org/A33_Q7_V1.0
<silviop> where are lcd instructions ?
<silviop> depand on lcd chip used ?
<mripard> yep
<mripard> well, the combination of the chip and panel
<silviop> can i extract in any way from android bsp ?
<silviop> (open tablet is not a problem)
<mripard> if you don't have the source code, it's going to be difficult
<mripard> I haven't found a way yet

<markvandenborre> pmpp: could you elaborate on the onda v80?
<markvandenborre> DonkeyHotei: keep me updated of any progress!
<markvandenborre> mripard: tried all your suggestions, couldn't get things going yet, but delegated work on the bpi lcd
<markvandenborre> so no more questions on that for you for now :-)
<silviop> I'm interested in onda V80 A64 tablet too
<markvandenborre> mripard: silviop : any suggestions on a specific tablet that might properly run a traditionally free stack?
<silviop> my A33 tablet report hc-xaz-070T40 on lcd back
<silviop> no info online so if mpi need something i nedd to extract from BSP
<silviop> Only full working tablet i have are A13 and A20(Q88 style) and A31s(10.1) based , they have xubuntu and last u-boot
<silviop> but they are slow

<markvandenborre> silviop: just looking into something fairly simple: a fairly static web page with big touch buttons
<markvandenborre> should be simple enough I hope
<markvandenborre> silviop: you mean http://linux-sunxi.org/Q88 and friends, right?
<silviop> yes but with A10 A13 A20
<silviop> not A33 because lack of support in u-boot/kernel
<silviop> but you have consider that touch screen chip should be supported
yann has joined #linux-sunxi
<silviop> i use q88 style tablet for domotic interface in my house like totem with palemoon as browser

<mripard> silviop: A33 is one of the better supported SoC, so I'm not really sure what you mean by lack of support
<silviop> intended for tablet
<silviop> A33 tablet use MPI
<mripard> not all of them
<mripard> yours do
<markvandenborre> mripard: so I should be looking for something A33 based with a different kind of screen connection than mpi?
<mripard> markvandenborre: yes
<silviop> and without tc1680 as touch screen controller
<mripard> markvandenborre: I think the q8 tablets are working quite well these days
<silviop> i have 3 A33 tablet with different issue that i cannot use with linux/ubuntu
<silviop> so i'm not so sure
<silviop> as you
<mripard> what are those issues ?
<silviop> tc1680 and mpi
<silviop> mixed
<mripard> that's one, what are the two others ?
embed-3d_ has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<silviop> touch screen controller and mpi mixed
<markvandenborre> mripard: the Q8 seems to be A13 based?
<markvandenborre> http://linux-sunxi.org/Q88
<markvandenborre> oops
<markvandenborre> http://linux-sunxi.org/Q8
<markvandenborre> I meant
<mripard> markvandenborre: it started that way, but they changed the SoC halfway through it
embed-3d_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<silviop> if can help you porting mpi i can send one for free to you mripard
<markvandenborre> hm, I should have added the 10" and somewhat high res constraint to that
<silviop> search A31s based tablets
<silviop> no mpi with this soc
<mripard> markvandenborre: a pixel C ? :)
<markvandenborre> mripard: :-(
<markvandenborre> mripard: I take that as "you're out of luck?"
<mripard> markvandenborre: rather as a "I have no idea" :)
<markvandenborre> :-(
<markvandenborre> that seems to be getting close, as you are probably one of the few people in the world who might have an idea
<markvandenborre> 7" and 800x480 is really too little for our use :-(
<mripard> markvandenborre: honestly, not really
<mripard> Hans would give better advices on this one
<mripard> I don't look at the tablets too much
<markvandenborre> I see
<markvandenborre> but then Hans has been out of this for quite a bit of time as he mentioned to me some time ago...

<willmore> A bit of nearly on topic trivia that I just learned. Late Nintendo SNES games had a chip in them called the SFX which did 3D processing. It was designed by people who would go on to make the ARC processor that would get embedded in all kinds of things. Things like Allwinner processors. Allwinner processors like the R16 that Nintendo used to emulate the SNES in their SNES classic.
<willmore> The world has come full circle again.
<mripard> as far as I'm aware, there's no ARC processor in the R16.
<mripard> or any Allwinner SoC for that matter
<icenowy[m]> mripard: H6 CCU introduces a LOCK_ENABLE bit in clocks with lock
<icenowy[m]> I want to add it to the CCU framework
<icenowy[m]> but it seems that it may conflicts with lock_reg
<mripard> why ?
<mripard> I guess it's also pretty easy to support, just enable it all the time
<mripard> I'm not sure it would bring any benefit to enable and disable them
<wens> sounds like the 'new' lock mode as found in the r40
<wens> in the r40 we switch it to the 'old' mode

<apritzel> chapter 3.1.1.1 in the H6 manual gives some guidance on how to use bit 29
<apritzel> 3.3.3.1, rather
jernej has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<icenowy[m]> mripard: according to the programming guide
<icenowy[m]> the bit needs to be disabled when changing freq
chlorine has joined #linux-sunxi
<icenowy[m]> but I think just set it may also work?
<willmore> mripard, oh, shoot, you're right, only the H series seem to have the system processor and it's not ARC decended, it's openRISC.
<icenowy[m]> willmore: no, new A's also have ARISC
<willmore> Okay, H series and 64 bit A series? This is getting confusing. Welcome to Allwinner BU strategy, I guess. :)
<icenowy[m]> nope A23/A33/A31/A80/A83T also have it
hardfalcon has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<mripard> willmore: pretty much all the SoCs since 4 years ago had that core :)
<icenowy[m]> except V3/V3s and R40
<icenowy[m]> which don't have CPUs part
<icenowy[m]> mripard: from my brief experiment keeping the lock_enable bit always 1 is okay

<florolf> the wiki and various other sources suggest that the R16 is just a relabelled A33, but looking at the user manual, the state machine for the boot process doesn't list the UBOOT/BSP-bypass which is present for the A33
<florolf> does anybody know whether is this just an omission from the manual or are those aspects actually different?
