<jack> plaes: yes, I've enabled the usb_otg in devicetree, but it seems as though everything isn't hooked up; I'm just trying to add support now for the id pin, vbus_power_supply etc
<jack> strange that the usb_otg node is in, but none of the regulators/pins are hooked up though

<kkln> Hi everyone I am trying to make Olimex A20-SOM board with H27UBG8T2BTR NAND working with kernel 4.9. I am able to boot 4.9 kernel from sdcard and FEL mode, but I get a lot of 'Bad eraseblock' errors related to NAND(on NAND I keep kernel 3.4 + files which I want to read). My DT configuration ecc-step:1024, ecc-strength:40, ecc:hw.
<kkln> When I boot kernel 3.4 from NAND I have no errors related to bad block. Does anyone can tell me where might be problem? I know there is paragraph related to bad blocks issues on http://linux-sunxi.org/Mainline_NAND_Howto but I don't know if it fit my case and I don't want to erase that chip.
<benettig> Hello, maybe it's a stupid question, but I can't understand how to Cc google group linux-sunxi when I submit a patch to mailing lists.
jack has joined #linux-sunxi
<benettig> Is there an address of google group?

<icenowy[m]> kkln: mainline NAND is not compatible with BSP NAND
<icenowy[m]> you must erase the whole NAND chip before switching from one implementation to another

<icenowy[m]> I don't know well about it
<hanetzer> #vendor-shitware
<icenowy[m]> hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
<hanetzer> so how long did it take for you guys to start growning when you got started with this sunxi mess? I'm still alone in my hisilicon projec
<plaes> years...
<plaes> and you need critical mass of cheap hw
<plaes> cheap, yet powerful
<KotCzarny> cheap, but good-enough
<maz> hanetzer: plaes: the critical mass is more in terms of usability. once you get enough stuff working, people start paying attention. but the beginning is... difficult.

<KotCzarny> hrm
<KotCzarny> my uart dongle got crazy hot

<hanetzer> maz: well, I do have some patches making their way upstream :)
<hanetzer> bootable kernel and whatnot. Working on the RTC driver right now (once I can get LEDE to behave and make me a proper bootable initramfs)
<willmore> hanetzer, aim for upstream. Even if it's a small thing. The more you have there, the more legitimate your work will appear and that's what attracts people.
yann-kaelig has joined #linux-sunxi
<hanetzer> willmore: yep. if you search hi3521a on the arm kernel mailing lists you should see my patchset. Needs more work but I'm getting there.
<benettig> mripard: I submitted patch again to add "why" and "how". Did I have to answer on previous mailing list patch? Those "why" and "how are ok? If they are not, can you point me an example? Thank you very much
<markvandenborre> hanetzer: are you trying to get support for these hi3521a boards?
<markvandenborre> the ones in the cheap mp4 encoders?
<markvandenborre> h264 encoders I should say...
<markvandenborre> hanetzer: that would be rather interesting for us too...
<markvandenborre> we have just bought two hi35xx devices to experiment with for the FOSDEM video setup
<hanetzer> markvandenborre: yeah. Basically the firmware on the consumer cctv boxes that use these chips are all activex crapware, so I'm hoping to basically openwrt them
<hanetzer> markvandenborre: do you happen to know exactly which hi35xx chip is in them?
<markvandenborre> not yet, they arrived literally yesterday
<hanetzer> pics? :P
<markvandenborre> we just powered them up and opened up the box
<markvandenborre> sorry, not around the office right now, but
<markvandenborre> a friend might have some pics, sec
<markvandenborre> because we immediately opened the thing up
<markvandenborre> the most interesting (hisilicon) chip was hidden under a glued heatsink though
<markvandenborre> hanetzer: we used basicly a cheap Chinese thingie
<markvandenborre> http://www.uray.ltd/pd.jsp?id=36#_pp=0_304_10_-1
<markvandenborre> is hisilicon based, running a 3.10 kernel, haven't rooted it yet; we mostly started by looking at the black box functionality first
<markvandenborre> if you have any hints for getting in without soldering, that would be nice of course
<markvandenborre> we're not kernel devs, but we might be able to give you and your work some extra exposure
JohnDoe_71Rus has quit [Quit: Miranda IM! Smaller, Faster, Easier. http://miranda-im.org]
<hanetzer> markvandenborre: that would be nice. Oh, that looks like an interesting blackbox :P
<hanetzer> markvandenborre: well, out of all the hisi-based boxes I've interacted with (3 to date) they almost always have uart broken out, but that may just be me being lucky so far.
<markvandenborre> hanetzer: one of the two we ordered was DOA when it came to hdmi in
<hanetzer> heh. Send it my way :>
<hanetzer> I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a kernel dev either, just a dude that tries to do kernel dev :)
<markvandenborre> well, you do seem to have some dts patches up, right?
<hanetzer> yeah. its pretty generic, but some parts of it are specific to the board I'm working on. I need to do a proper i2c driver as well, since that's where the analog decoders hook up.
