<wens> now I need to figure out who figured out sun8i HDMI is DW HDMI
<MoeIcenowy> wens: why do you need him/her?
<MoeIcenowy> seems to be jemk according to wiki record
<MoeIcenowy> we didn't see him for a long time, but if you have any questions you may ask jernej
<MoeIcenowy> he did the sun8i-dw_hdmi glue
<wens> I'm looking to do a talk that documents all these hardware blocks that we found to be compatible to known hardware/drivers
terra854 has joined #linux-sunxi
jernej has joined #linux-sunxi
<jernej> wens: jemk explained here some time ago how he found out that it is DW HDMI unit
<jernej> I'm sure it is in the logs somewhere
<MoeIcenowy> jernej: P.S. correctly speaking on H3 VEP is only supported on mixer0's VI channel
<jernej> MoeIcenowy: yes, but there is no VEP per se. If you take a look at header file, you will find out that functions are actually defined in de_fcc.c
<jernej> and tracing along, they are used in de_enhance.c
<jernej> They also have common base address, relative to DE2 base address
<MoeIcenowy> What does "per se" mean? I think I cannot understand it...
<jernej> MoeIcenowy: interestengly, de_is_support_vep[] is not used anywhere
<MoeIcenowy> jernej: it's used.
<jernej> MoeIcenowy: google it, I'm not sure I can explain
<jernej> where?
<MoeIcenowy> it's referenced as de_cur_features struct, as its member is_support_vep
<jernej> ah, sorry
<MoeIcenowy> then it's used in de_feat_is_support_vep function
<MoeIcenowy> :q
<MoeIcenowy> oh silly
<MoeIcenowy> then in de_enhance_init the func is called
<MoeIcenowy> and according to de_enhance_init, FCE/LTI/PEAK/ASE/FCC seem to be all components in VEP?
<jernej> yes
<jernej> I hope that now you understand what "per se" in above sentence means :)
<wens> if only the irc logs were searchable
lemonzest has joined #linux-sunxi
<jernej> wens: I will try to find
<MoeIcenowy> I think it should be earlier than my IRC log -- my laptop is bought in last Oct
<jernej> wens: I meant this conversation: https://irclog.whitequark.org/linux-sunxi/2016-11-09#18134443;
<jernej> it is not much
<wens> hmm, that was much later though
<wens> and the DWC HDMI wiki page was created on 2016/02/14
indy has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<montjoie> wens: if you want I have 3 years of linux-sunxi logs:)
indy has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> montjoie: actually whitequark irc logs are searchable
<wens> the problem is coming up with the right keyword combinations
<jernej> wens: additionaly, in june 2016 jodamm figured out layout of CEC register good enough to write a driver for it and few months after that, I found out descramble trick with reverse engineering A64 HDMI driver. It was hidden in CEC write (?) function, since they were probably lazy mapping otherwise linear buffer.
<wens> jernej: thanks! I was just about to search for the unscramble bits
<wens> you sure it was CEC though? sounds more like HDMI AVI packet stuff if it were a linear buffer
<jernej> uh, let me check some facts, I'm not sure if it was A64 driver
<MoeIcenowy> some silly guys reported that he successfully booted mainline Pine64 kernel with BSP U-Boot...
<MoeIcenowy> terrible.
<jernej> wens: yes, it was hidden in bsp_hdmi_cec_send() function in sun8iw11 hdmi driver
<wens> to be fair that was always doable with armv7 :p
<MoeIcenowy> (and he told me that the eth phy doesn't work on it
<MoeIcenowy> (only an AXP issue that will be fixed soon
<wens> jernej: looks like that was around 2016/11/10?
<jernej> I found it at least at 2016/11/09 or before https://irclog.whitequark.org/linux-sunxi/2016-11-09#18134324;
<wens> cool
<wens> btw, the dw-hdmi block has a RO register that says what type of phy is used
manolosevi has joined #linux-sunxi
<wens> on the A80, it reads 'custom PHY', even though the PHY seems to be standard DW HDMI PHY
<manolosevi> hi, i have a measy a5a (a10 with 512 mb) and i'm trying to install a serial console but i'he tried the connector that i see in the board but not luck. sombody has a similar model? thanks in advance.
<jernej> wens: I don't know about A80, but A83T also seems to have standard phy, but it still includes some custom registers, which may be a reason to be "custom"
<wens> what kind of custom registers
<wens> AFAIK the PHY has some parameters that are SoC specific
<wens> the imx6 manual has a table for computing them though, if one could figure out what it all meant
<jernej> those at offset 0x10000 and up
<wens> oh, you mean the wrapper bits?
<jernej> yes
<wens> I hadn't look at those. I just assumed everything was standard
<wens> maybe that's why my A80 doesn't work :/
<jernej> as I said, I'm not sure if this completely relates to A80, but at least it is so on A83T

<MoeIcenowy> P.S. I've heard from someone that there's some more chips than GR8 that co-package sun5i dies with DRAM
<MoeIcenowy> that follows the feature set of A10s
<MoeIcenowy> (it seems to be called X3
<MoeIcenowy> but I don't know what brand
