<nove>
(i read the machine translation) and it includes the usual "sadness" about graphics support, and the usual comparison that "it works" in android
<nove>
but no talking of "license-issues" as the direct cause for that "missing" graphics support
<nove>
this could make "clueless" users to think, that is because of inferiority of gnu/linux systems, or even worst, that is because this linux-sunxi is not working harder enough
<nove>
and for that "license-issues" should not be hidden for marketing reasons
<[TheBug]>
My opinion on that is more board vendors need to get involved with telling their suppliers they need better licensing for their graphics support and they need to start insisting when they are doing bulk purchasing of said SoC's that there is information documenting this need during the purchase. Problem turns out to be that the vendor doesn't care and expects for 'linux-xunxi' or similar to do all the work and complaining for them...
<[TheBug]>
If the vendors actually cared, like Xunlong, FriendlyArm, Cubieboard, Olimex and they pressed for this, I think it would be much different.

i'm guessing the vendors that produce SBCs are a very tiny fraction compared to tablet vendors and such
<[TheBug]>
but of course doing so could cost them some money I am sure -- probably one of the hidden line items is that because they don't bitch about it they get the SoC's cheaper..
<vagrantc>
who probably care even less
<pmpp>
and it took years to make ati/nvidia ploy a bit for linux support ... probably will be the same
<[TheBug]>
right and the thing is the tablet vendors don't care much because they want you to throw it away and buy a new device (Apple mentaility) instead of making use of it differently than how was originally intended.
<[TheBug]>
also they don't want to have to support some user who hacks it open I suppose..
