<FergusL> Hmrgmbl, I don't like /etc/network/interfaces being replaced by NetworkManager that stores psk in complex non-editable files with cleartext passwords...
<lurchi_> FergusL: whats complex about /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/* ?
<lurchi_> can't get any simpler than that
BenG83 has joined #linux-sunxi
<FergusL> lurchi_ I got use to tweaking the interfaces file manually, putting the sd card in and just booting, no serial needed, the files in system-conenctions have uuids that are impossible to guess...
<FergusL> have to admit I've tested hacking this still
<FergusL> atm I'm trying to see if it still picks up the interfaces file... (that's on Armbian with Nano Pi NEO Air, so excited about that board! hehe)
<lurchi_> the files can be named however you want
<FergusL> I meant the "uuid=..." line in the connection file
<FergusL> maybe it can be left blank...
<lurchi_> the uuid is used to identify a connection, just make it unique
<FergusL> ok, should work with a handcrafted one then
<lurchi_> nm also has dozens of tools to help you
<FergusL> what's helping right now is that my laptop has nm as well and is connected to the network I want to be on so it makes it easier, as the files I need exists already
<FergusL> well, seems the old interfaces file is being picked up still!

<maik_> Hi all, is there a release plan for kernel 4.11? I am trying to bring up audio with my nanopi-neo.
<wens> huh? this is mainline linux you're talking about
<wens> ask Linus :)
LargePrime has joined #linux-sunxi
<maik_> The page "mainline linux effort", is talking about "Audio codec device tree changes". Is this patch allready available?
<wens> you can check linux-next
<wens> no one seems to have patched the nanopi dts files to enable the codec though
<maik_> I did it, by copying some parts from the orangepi dts. But when i see the kernel message "sun4i-codec 1c22c00.codec: ASoC: /soc/codec-analog@01f015c0 not registered". The listed (in /proc/asound/cards) is not able to make audio.
<maik_> My dts file: http://pastebin.com/5hcttEhV
<wens> did you check alsamixer and enable stuff?
<wens> the first "not registered" message is because of a deferred probe

<jelle> wens: hi, did you get bluetooth working on the bananpi m2+?
* jelle wonders which kernel moduels he is missing
<jelle> wifi atleast works, so I shall update the wiki for the nanopi-neo-air
<MoeIcenowy> jelle: uart wifi is hacky.
<MoeIcenowy> s/wifi/bt
<jelle> MoeIcenowy: that isn't helping ;-)
<MoeIcenowy> you can just enable the UART by default
<MoeIcenowy> yes that isn't helping, as I never use APxxxx's bluetooth
<MoeIcenowy> what I experienced is RTL8723BS
<jelle> MoeIcenowy: hmm I've enabled uart1 in dts, but I'm 100% positive it has a wakeup pin
<MoeIcenowy> there's now no a good device tree binding for the wakeup pin
<MoeIcenowy> so you can just leave UART and wake BT up with sysfs gpio interface
<jelle> let me try that
<MoeIcenowy> I discussed this problem with mripard
<jelle> ah yeah, GPIOA8/BT-WAKE, GPIOA7/BT-HOST-WAKE
<MoeIcenowy> A8 is what need to be set to 1
<MoeIcenowy> and there may be a BT-RST-N or alike name pin
<jelle> GPIOG13/BT-RST-N bingo
<MoeIcenowy> this should also be set to 1
<MoeIcenowy> and there may be hack necessary for the bluetooth to run, for example, special hciattach or some firmware uploading facilities
<jelle> oh damn
<MoeIcenowy> oh it used rfkill-bt, which will confuse some desktop environments

<wens> jelle: i have not tried bt on anything but the cubietruck
<wens> jelle: however they are more or less the same chips
<jelle> wens: yup, seems it's awfull everywhere ;-)
<wens> BT-WAKE is an host -> chip interrupt
<wens> BT-HOST-WAKE is a chip -> host interrupts
<jelle> so I'll send the patch to enable wifi / mmc and then look into bluetooth later
<jelle> wens: I also have an BT-RST-N in the datasheet
<wens> yes, that is a reset pin
<wens> an active low reset
<wens> the bluetooth wiki page should point to a github repo that has scripts to automatically bring up bt using sysfs gpio and broadcom tools
<jelle> ok
<jelle> I guess the bluetooth has a separate uart?
<wens> yes
<wens> so you also need to enable said uart in the dt

<FergusL> Armbian question: is there a preferred way to import commits from board manufacturers git (https://github.com/friendlyarm/h3_lichee/commit/88b873a8fcc7eb844a5412977857a0185a5d7361) to Armbian's tree in lib?
<jelle> FergusL: iirc armbian has it's own channel

<terra854> So you guys know about the CHIP Pro?
<FergusL> terra854: sure yes! the thing advertised at $16 that you can still only get at 49$ :D
<MoeIcenowy> I now have a feel about Banana Pi guys: they relied on Allwinner's R&D too much that they cannot adopt better solutions by themselves
<MoeIcenowy> for example, Orange Pi H3 boards now adopts mainline U-Boot + BSP kernel (allowing loading script.bin from mmc 0:1); but BPi M2+ still uses BSP U-Boot (which needs U-Boot rebuild when modifying script.bin)
<terra854> Well, the GR8 SoC is Basically R8 + 256MB RAm
<terra854> Wonder if Pine can create something like that...
<terra854> with the A64
leviathan has joined #linux-sunxi
<plaes> you also need the pmic
<terra854> Yeah, just noticed that it is also inside the GR8
<terra854> And it seems that the GR8 has been mainlined fully at 4.9
<terra854> Is it by the guys at CHIP?
<MoeIcenowy> it's by Free Electrons
<terra854> Oh, and did you guys help out with it?
<MoeIcenowy> montjoie: testing dwmac-sun8i on V3s
<terra854> And it seems that no one is working on the Video Engine drivers?
<terra854> (for almost all the processors according to the status matrix)
<MoeIcenowy> kido is WIP on it
<MoeIcenowy> VE is a very difficult guy
<terra854> No code in the BSP to refer to?
maik_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<plaes> terra854: um.. it's riddled with licensing issues
<plaes> and another issue is that there's actually no fully suitable APIs for such drivers
<tkaiser> FergusL: Do you know that you can append '.patch' to such a github URL like yours above? https://github.com/friendlyarm/h3_lichee/commit/88b873a8fcc7eb844a5412977857a0185a5d7361.patch can be saved as a text file and then search Armbian documentation for 'userpatches' directory and how to override kernel config (everything's explained, no one reads it)
<terra854> Contains the "All Rights Reserved" in all the source files?
<MoeIcenowy> montjoie: ping, stmmac on V3s cannot scan the internal PHY (V3s do not support external PHY)
<MoeIcenowy> nothing in /sys/bus/mdio_bus/devices/
<MoeIcenowy> and bus-ephy clock is not enabled
<tkaiser> MoeIcenowy: You can load script.bin even with Allwinner's 2011.09 u-boot. It's just a lack of understanding combined with an impressive level of ignorance when we're talking about BPi folks.
<MoeIcenowy> tkaiser: when I was trying this on A33 this hangs the board ;-)
<tkaiser> MoeIcenowy: But it works in general. It's just a matter of boot script to load file's contents at the right address. Even BPi folks managed it with some of their BSP variants after being told maybe a hundred times.
<terra854> plaes: Contains the "All Rights Reserved" line in all the source files for the VE drivers?
<MoeIcenowy> tkaiser: or did I forgot to enable any specific drivers?
<MoeIcenowy> s/tkaiser/montjoie/g
<MoeIcenowy> oh montjoie is not here
<FergusL> super cool tkaiser, I didn't know one could do that
<FergusL> I've understood the patch folder for building armbian and how to disable/enable patches etc... I'm still wondering about files location. Will check that anyway, thanks
<FergusL> I like how the files clearly state 192k as max samplerate and how the product page of FriendlyArm advertises 384k in the first line of the description :D
