Hey guys, i'm working with a lime2 and as we know they have a nice gpio to toggle USB power on/off with. great stuff! however I can't seem to figure out how to do it from userspace. The pin is bound to the vbus of the phy and the phy nicely enables it, but how can I disable/enable power 'at will'? e.g. sort of like rfkill works for wifi?
<oliv3r>
i've tried unbinding usb[1-4] in /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb and the hubs ([1-4]-0:1.0) in /sys/bus/usb/drivers/hub but while i get no errors, lsusb still shows my usb root hubs
<oliv3r>
the ultimate goal is to disable/enable a hardwired camera 'at will'

<BenG83_PB>
so opening and closing the lids generates key events
<MoeIcenowy>
BenG83_PB: maybe you should use SW_LID
<MoeIcenowy>
not KEY_ events
<BenG83_PB>
I dont know how to change that, when I open and close the lid it generates KEYA/B
<BenG83_PB>
or is that in the source of the module?
<MoeIcenowy>
yes, please hack the driver
<BenG83_PB>
ok I'll have a look
<ElBarto>
isn't there a gpio-suspend (like there is gpio-poweroff) ?
<MoeIcenowy>
I think there's no
<MoeIcenowy>
but in mainline linux, by tweaking dt, gpio-keys can work as gpio-switches
BenG83_PB has left #linux-sunxi ["Leaving"]

just looking at the source
Ntemis has joined #linux-sunxi
<oliv3r>
MoeIcenowy: nah, that doesn't work it seems :(
<oliv3r>
MoeIcenowy: you can only tell it to auto suspend or something, which in turn really only tells the device to turn off its power (which doesn't turn it off, just consumes much less)
<oliv3r>
we want to actually toggle the vbus to completly remove the power. to force a hotplug event basically
<oliv3r>
i should make the usb modules and unload the modules to see if that does the trick, it should afaik
<oliv3r>
since load/unload of ohci etc does a phy_power_o[n-ff]
<ElBarto>
oliv3r: looking at the schematics there is a usb1-drv (PH6) and usb2-drv (PH3)
<ElBarto>
this should be represented in the dts if it's not already
popolon has joined #linux-sunxi
<ElBarto>
reg_usb1_vbus should have gpio = <&pio 7 6 GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH>; and reg_usb2_vbus gpio = <&pio 7 3 GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH>; atleast
<BenG83_PB>
that was easy
<BenG83_PB>
just set a define
<ElBarto>
and it seems this is the default
<BenG83_PB>
now it outputs SW_LID
<oliv3r>
ElBarto: exactly, and those are tied to vbus of the usb phy
<oliv3r>
ElBarto: toggeling those pins does exactly what I want
<oliv3r>
ElBarto: but they are correctly bound to the sun4i-phy-usb driver, and the functions phy_power_on and phy_power_off correctly toggle those pins
<oliv3r>
i'm looking for a userspace solution to perofrm the phy_power_on and phy_power_off steps
<terra854>
So A64 ethernet is ready for 4.11?
<oliv3r>
one solution is to unload the ehci-platform driver I expect
<montjoie>
terra854: clearly no way fo 4.11
<terra854>
Why?
<montjoie>
there will be some comment when I will send it
<montjoie>
for having a good sun8i-emac, 5 versions where needed
<montjoie>
even if dwmac-sun8i is elss code, I expect some problem
<terra854>
So basically the code is at the "request for comments" stage?
<montjoie>
yes
<montjoie>
all work on sun8i-emac was re-used so it reduce the surface of attack:)
<BenG83_PB>
;)
<montjoie>
but I still expect some
<montjoie>
and compiling on x86 show me some problem I should address
<oliv3r>
excellent, rmmod and modprobe of [eo]hci_platform does remove the power as expected!
