Hmh.... and there's really no open-source version of that rk29xxnand.ko or rk30xxnand.ko module.... Puts a serious crimp in my plans to use a kernel newer than 3.0.x :(
<lautriv_>
anyone aware of an alternative download for linuxium's bin.7z ?

visitor-14524: no the nand FTL layer is rather closed
<sjoerd>
visitor-14524: maybe the one(s) for iirc 3.10 for rk3288 work for you ?

lautriv_: Heh, generally you want to look at the upstream situation before buying hardware :) For rk3288 u-boot/kernel are shaping up nicely, rk3188 is somewhat behind (though doing the first step on getting u-boot on that in principle shouldn't be too hard)
<sjoerd>
lautriv_: you can use the vendor u-boot to boot rk3188 from SD card though
<lautriv_>
sjoerd, i looked at the hardware while getting stuff, want cortex-a9 because compatibility to other arms. did not see any vendor-stuff so far.
<sjoerd>
the cpu tedns to be one of the least important parts though ;)
<lautriv_>
since the propietary stuff is about hardware-init, i doubt that.
<sjoerd>
?
<sjoerd>
the rk3188 init tries SD first
<lautriv_>
sjoerd, so either my box is different or i missed something. link to assumed details handy ?
<sjoerd>
Well what did you put on your SD card to make it boot form that ?
<lautriv_>
i had a stick with the 3188 which was prepared, that one got problems on early init (DDR init failed) and i used the SD on this TV-Box.
<sjoerd>
Unfortunaly i don't know your hardware nor what you prepared for it, all i can tell you my 3188 board here happily boots from SD

sjoerd, link to howto , maybe different to my first ?
<lautriv_>
sjoerd, i guess that was the one from the pas, maybe the SD got truncated ...
<sjoerd>
worth double-checking, these things can be subtle
<visitor-14524>
Will have a look, in any case. I got the display, the touchscreen and I _think_ the SD card working. The heck, I won't be stopped by the nand not working, not anymore.
<naobsd>
proprietary loader can be used for SD boot too

naobsd: I did read about that - needs much preparation on the SDCard's behalf. Right now for testing purposes I'm okay with putting kernel and ramdisk on NAND and the root file system, once I go beyond a recovery image - on SD.
