yeah in these cases I basically add the files individually, but that only works if you're cool with them not being part of one big directory
<jamiew>
in theory you could add them individually and then add the directory with `-r` and it should know the delta, but in reality that doesn't seem to behave for me
<Bat`O>
is it me or the whole ipfs network has a problem today ? my node seems to take a long time to get a normal peer count
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
and i can add teh files individually no problem
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
its just making that wrapping container
<jamiew>
yeah damn, so you're running into exactly what i've hit before too
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
and its happens on two differnt servers
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
repreodudable but takes forever :/
<DarkDrgn2k[m]>
is there an issue on this yet

or should i make noe

Q: how does discovery work in IPFS? Would it be possible to find some files if all you knew was just a hash or a public key?
<carrot^>
Also even if I could find a file with just a hash, how does IPFS decide who to pull the file from if there are multiple parties with the file?

carrot^: Yes, if you have the (correct) hash of the file, and someone is online who has that file, you can get it.
<TimMc>
I don't know how the client decides who to get which chunks of the file from, but I imagine it's similar to how torrents work.

I seem to remember that the same content can have multiple (different) hashes in IPFS (CID? is that the correct term?) in some circumstances. Am I misremembering?
<r0kk3rz>
not usually. but it is possible with different hashing / chunking algorithms
<dkasak[m]>
Ah, right, I think it was the revelation that different chunking settings can influence resulting CIDs. Thanks.

Question: would the daemon/gateway understand a folder node with a link that has a path? Like, [links:["/":"Qm/dir1/dir2"]}?

Or is that kinda of path-ing disallowed in links?

<Copenhagen_Bram>
If I use ipfs, could someone upload something illegal to my IPFS node?
<Copenhagen_Bram>
Someone in another chatroom is worried that could happen
<Copenhagen_Bram>
But can't I choose which things I want to download and seed?
<r0kk3rz>
you dont download anything automatically
