BenLubar, Voker57 : FWIW, I'm also having problems with ipfs.io seeing my content. My port is properly forwarded. It does usually resolve it but only after a period of several minutes. And sometimes it just works instantly, the moment I upload it. And sometimes it just doesn't work at all.

Oh, you mention a proof of work... I mean, I guess you could implement a blockchain on top of IPFS, but it seems like the wrong tool for the job. :-)

i guess what sparked the idea was whether we could increase blocksizes by making the block an ipfs hash and the transactions stored on ipfs, but that doesn't really solve the problem of increasing block size also increasing block propagation

I don't know the details myself, but it's refreshing to see a cryptocurrency that doesn't rely on burning electricity, and instead performs useful work as its proof mechanism.

My vague understanding is that the data is stored in a munged format that requires one-time work to compute in the first place, but that you can derive proof-of-storage from intermittently with little cost. Something like that.

Maybe you take the current consensus data and use that to generate pseudorandom pointers into the data and retrieve those parts for your proof? That's my guess. :-)
