<buZz> well, from debian i guess
<buZz> its a nice method to go from a downloaded image to your own selfmade image :)

<pacopad> buZz: the current image i'm using , cuibuntu, doesn't have /dev/mali and /dev/ump activated. Can i active them by recompiling the kernel ?
<buZz> possibly
<buZz> i think you need to add them as options in the kernel
<buZz> i also have the same now on my cubie2 kernel :P
<pacopad> i saw the options , but i can't compile :)
<pacopad> maybe do you have kernel file to give me :)
<buZz> hehe

<pacopad> hglm : first i tried with https://github.com/jwrdegoede/linux-sunxi.git

<pacopad> buzz : ok , so what about the config file ? :)
<buZz> hehe 1mom ;)

<pacopad> Buzz : The kernel compiled with your config file didn't boot
<pacopad> did i forgot a step ?
<buZz> did you look at serial terminal while booting?
<pacopad> no, can i do this with micro usb ?
<buZz> no
<buZz> cubie didnt come with a serial cable?
<buZz> that
verysoftoiletppr has joined #cubieboard
<pacopad> i got power cable and sata cable
<pacopad> no serial
<buZz> meh
<buZz> so you cant fix uboot
<buZz> there is a problem with machid in uboot env
<buZz> i hit it aswell
<buZz> needed to mod the uboot environment
<buZz> might be possible to fix it another way, but i dont know how
<buZz> dont have any other ttl type serial cable?
<pacopad> nope
<buZz> horrible :(
<buZz> you might be able to set the uBoot with a uEnv.txt on the /boot partition
<buZz> u-boot and linux cannot agree what number the sun7i platform is. This image uses 0x00000f35 (cubieboard2 factory linux image) but some images might use 0x10BB (hno's uboot). If these numbers don't match the kernel won't boot.
<pacopad> i already have uEnv.txt on the boot part
<buZz> you can fix that with setenv machid in u-boot if you want to boot kernel that uses a different id.
<buZz> so i did ;
<buZz> setenv machid 0xf35
<buZz> and it worked
<buZz> add that to uEnv.txt

<joph> a max232 wouldn't work cause you need 3V3 levels, not 5V levels

<hno> buZz, u-boot uses the official number. If you want to boot a kernel using a random unassigned number then "setenv machid ...." to override.
<buZz> yeah i know
<buZz> can i change the machid needed to boot a kernel?
<hno> yes
<hno> "setenv machid ...." to override.
<hno> but don't get too used to it.. the A20 kernel will have it's machid fixed shortly.
