<keebler> arokux: It's my understanding that only EOMA itself is Open (Open standard), however, the EOMA68-A20 does not seem to be an open source product it's self.
<keebler> itself

<arokux> focus_it, you first need to be able to recreate the rootfs from packages, then you learn how to build packages themselves.
<focus_it> I got a plan arokux
<arokux> focus_it, which is?
<focus_it> brb
<focus_it> arokux: git pull everything into a 1Tb disk, checkout the relevant versions and then put that disk online. No one will want to download the hundred+ gigabytes that make up the sources, so offer to sell the TB disk at a fee. Leave scripts in the disk to check out different versions depending on model so that the buyer does not need to keep ordering disks. They can do git pull to update their local HD copies if they are smart.
<arokux> focus_it, so you just want a pile of source code and you do not really want to reproduce the image by yourself?
<focus_it> arokux: initially that all i need to satisfy gpl requirement when distributing binary
<arokux> focus_it, I see. I misunderstood you then.
<focus_it> ok
<arokux> focus_it, I thought your goal was to give ppl a script (instructions) that will recreate the image.
<focus_it> so i need all sources for linaro, and if they used prebuilt stuff from ubuntu, i need that as well. the tools I used are ubuntu 12.04.3, so i need full sources for that as well
<arokux> focus_it, you do not need source code for the tools for gpl, do you?
<focus_it> no - but if the tool is being distributed in a binary, and the tool itself is gpl'd, then yes
<focus_it> sadly i am going to distribute working dd images that contains the tools pre-installed into a working distro so that it can be used immediately
datagutt has joined #arm-netbook
<focus_it> that means almost everything inside the distro of choice is going to have its sources packaged up as well
<focus_it> I'm happy if it all fits on 1TB disk - $$$$ for me!!! as no one will download it - they buy the disks
<arokux> focus_it, lol nobody would want to download it if you say it is a mirror of ubuntu sources.
<focus_it> thats right, I'm rich! I'm rich! feel all those gpl'd $ flowing into my bank now!
<arokux> focus_it, not on subject. did I understand it correctly there are no KiCAD GPL files for the EOMA68-A20?
<focus_it> No kicad files
<arokux> focus_it, it is sad.
<focus_it> Not too sad - I got Dr. Ajith's http://www.gplsquared.com/SoM2/SoM2.html which is very similar to Luke's
<arokux> focus_it, so everything is under GPL to reproduce this SoM?
<focus_it> If luke ran into problems, then Dr.Ajith's would be back up. I was also doing mine own version - but Ajith too quick and beat me to it, so i I help him make his
<focus_it> arokux: 10000% GPLD!!!
<arokux> focus_it, very nice.
<focus_it> in ajith being too quick, he did not make any infrastructure test boards - so there are bugs in his current version, and its going to be hard to debug it. luckily my debug board with nothing on other than A10 cpu is built already - once i get time, it get powered up and see what happens
<focus_it> highest priority is to get luke's board working with lcd and vga, then i can ease off and go do my own boards
<arokux> focus_it, I see. I thought you'd like the board you can manufacture on your own, not buy it.
<focus_it> both
<focus_it> there are high risks in making own for such complex designs
<focus_it> so i rely on luke's device for most projects, but work projects will probably use my own designs - typically only 1000 to 3000 units per year max.
<focus_it> most projects being personal projects
<focus_it> work projects number 1 to 2 per year
<focus_it> home projects - approx 1 every month
<arokux> focus_it, you do these projects as a hobby or you sell them?
<focus_it> that is hard question - i'm a techie and build things as needed - but if anyone wants to buy, i can sell
<focus_it> i am not building to sell
<focus_it> so i don't have plans - just objectives to reach and then move on to even more complex targets
<arokux> focus_it, I've sent you a private message, do you see it?
<focus_it> yes
