<keebler> Lapdock arrives tomorrow. :)
<keebler> ARG! Another failure of the handsoldered junk. Was trying to test my RGB LCD and couldn't get anything. Took the cover off the EOMA68 and pins 35,36,37,38 are all delaminated from the PCB... this is the same card that had the mini-USB connector snap off.
<keebler> And it's also the same one where UART0 RX does not work.
<keebler> Of the three I bought, only one has managed to work 100%.

<keebler> focus: Maaaaaybe. :)
<keebler> focus: I need to get these MEB Gerbers off to the fabbers this week.
<keebler> I'm waiting on my A20 SODIMM, which SHOULD arrive this week.
<hno> Olimex are also working on A13 and A20 SOM modules.
<keebler> Yeah, but theirs isn't SODIMM.
<keebler> :P
<hno> True. But quite nice regardless. But no reusable interfaces with each Olimex SOM using their own I think. But at least same physical connector type used across their three SOM modules.
<keebler> I already have an interface board ready to go for the SoM.
<keebler> Which we're trying to keep standardized in future revisions.
<keebler> I'll have to pick this topic back up in an hour and a half....50 mile commute to work...

<focus> keebler: I have sodimm based SoM already built as you might be aware, it has 3 defects and can't be corrected so I need to redo them anyway
<focus> Dr. Ajith was too fast for me to keep up with designing infrastructure boards
<focus> so we build his board in 4 months and now there isn't enough test boards and infrastructure boards to debug Dr. Ajiths SoM board as easily as I would like to.
<focus> So i need to build a compact som board learning from Luke's eoma and putting in a lot of additional FPC connectors and make it as tiny as possible
<focus> Ideally a SoM board with 200 pin SODIMM with NAND, SDRAM, AXP209, a power led, on board uSB, uHDMI, and everything else on fpc connectors
<focus> the one uSB is good enough to connect USB port and add mouse, keyboard, ethernet etc and get HDMI video out
<focus> The board also needs uSD
<focus> The remainder such as ethernet, other USB, LCD, wifi, RS232, SATA can all be from fpc connectors
<focus> Also I2C on fpc connector
<focus> and camera
<focus> The idea is same as EOMA but use FPC to massively increase the IO for embedded applications
<focus> the pcb has to be something similar in size to a MK802 or a watch computer size board - smart watches are becoming common - so anything that shrinks the board sizes to those dimensions is target
<focus> A couple of ADC channels important
<focus> coming out on fpc
<focus> audio - should be on fpc
<focus> The power should be turned on and off by activating one power MOSFET. This could be connected to a secondary CPU that will then be able to power on and off the CPU board by toggling one line on and off.
<focus> By putting everything out to FPC connectors, the testing and debugging will be a lot easier for more complex projects
<focus> Even have a mind to put the NAND and SDRAM to FPC, but not sure if SDRAM will work with that approach - NAND should.
<focus> Also ideal would be a wifi module like the MK802 to have on the board.

<arokux> focus, are you aware of SMARC?
wingrime has joined #arm-netbook
<hno> focus, usage of FPC connectors kind of nullify all benefits of using SODIMM imho.
<keebler> I've already got a 200pin SoM with every single pin of the A20 brought out through both the 200pins, plus additional on-board FPCs.
<keebler> As I mentioned in the email..
<keebler> I thought I sent you the pinouts?
<keebler> focus: you've got mail
<keebler> brb
<hno> If you can't settle on a reasonable SODIMM standard that covers what is needed then I think I prefer the board2board kind of connectors Olimex is using. At least you know there is no standard, and can easily be scaled for as many functions you need.
<focus> hno: sodimm is a stiff PCB connector, fpc is flexible. The SODIMM is for putting the board on to a motherboard, while fpc is for gadgets that have no motherboards

<focus> arokux: thanks - makes good reading
<focus> keebler: those pdfs are so close to what I want!! :)

<keebler> focus: You'll like the next board tthen. :)
<focus> hno: an fpc connector can connet up to 80 pins easily - so it will connect out to a break out board with 0.1" header pins for some types of IO - the good being, you design your own IO pin layouts as you see fit for each application, or just copy others. keep all options open.
<focus> cost about $1 to make such a board
roric_ has joined #arm-netbook
<focus> keebler: yes I would
<focus> :) :)
<keebler> focus: 240pin, A20 w/ Gbit, and another 240pin w/ potentially A15/A7 Quad that is pin compatible at the SODIMM interface, but extraneous pins are accessible via FPC.
<focus> keebler: salivating!
<focus> can it will it get opened up for KiCAD - need to cut and paste between all the other projects and gadgets I got on the go
<focus> keebler: do you want me do up something for starters in KiCAD?
<focus> and then keep extending it to cover all the bases?
<focus> There is also now available 300 odd pin sodimm like connector - not sure what its called but I see it some SoM maker's website
<focus> I know foxcon make the connectors
<focus> Its bigger and therefore will take more FPC connectors
<focus> keebler: going home now - will be online in about 2 hrs
