<lkcl> PoWeRKiLL: you'll need to find some firmware upgrade instructions on a random forum and adapt them
<lkcl> let's see....
<PoWeRKiLL> lklc I found some but for android
<lkcl> PoWeRKiLL: well that's not a problem. start with a chroot environment and go from there.
<PoWeRKiLL> I contribute to this thread :D
<lkcl> i did this for an exynos 4412 recently
<lkcl> so it's a multi-phase process
<lkcl> if they can boot from MicroSD you *should* be able to pick that apart
<lkcl> and find out what's going on.
<lkcl> boot from MicroSD equals "boot anything"
<lkcl> you *don't* have to run their crap.
<PoWeRKiLL> Wow it's cool but how can I test if it's boot from sd as it should ?
<lkcl> unpack and mount the initrd (using losetup if necessary) and examine it.
<lkcl> you should then have a clear idea of how to create your own initrd that will do "more standard linuxy things"
<lkcl> that's if they're using an initrd that is
<lkcl> basically you need to investigate
<lkcl> Download it from here ftp://ftp.lechpol.pl/Products/Cabletech/frimware1.1/
<lkcl> copy to a micro sd card and launch the install from the setting about upgrade
<lkcl> frimware *lol*
<PoWeRKiLL> I got it and already open it
<lkcl> so mount that using losetup
<lkcl> yep.
<lkcl> ok so see what it's got, poke around and you should be sorted.
<lkcl> does it have a boot.scr?
<lkcl> if so it'll be using a stock u-boot that loads boot.scr and you can adapt that file
<lkcl> etc. etc.
<lkcl> so you just have to poke around
<lkcl> ok?
<PoWeRKiLL> I open the boot.img here is the content http://pastebin.com/gRP4k6x1
<PoWeRKiLL> lklc I already used the 1.1 update.zip firmware the thing is that as soon as I change soemthing in the zip I'm not able to upgrade anymore
<PoWeRKiLL> I got the android logo with the open heart in red
<lkcl> ok - the init program. replace that with anything-you-like.
<lkcl> but, first i suggest you get a chroot environment set up (in /data)
<lkcl> then you can replace init on the sdcard with a program which does a pivot_root
<lkcl> etc. etc.
<lkcl> you'll get there :)
<lkcl> hmmm, it looks like the fuckers have signed it.

<jm_> hey lckl, the factory that made this board http://www.gplsquared.com/SoM2/SoM2.html#11April2013 is more than happy to make you 100. BOM + 15% to 25% normally. They are not aggressive or possesive. They are two companies into one - one electronics, other software, and between them there isn't anything they can't handle. They are in Guanzhou not far from Shenzhen, so the BOM can be Shenzhen prices.

<fous_it> I am still waiting for that board to arrive from CN. Next week I should get it.
<fous_it> They got subcontractors who can make 10K boards in about 3 to 4 days if things get busy.
<fous_it> They have got massive factory space to do the packaging and fulfilment. Just need an online store like ebay, aliexpress or amazon. By shipping from CN the postage is a lot cheaper as well.

<fous_it> lkcl: one thing I was not clear is whether the PCB is gpl'd or whether it now belongs to wits. I know you mentioned PADs, can that be exported to something that KiCAD read - save me an awesome amount of work it can be done.
penguin42 has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<lkcl> fous_it: the copyright situation is not clear. it's definitely copyright QiMod, and definitely copyright Wits Tech. plus, some of the boards i've used parts from e.g. Boundary Devices.
<lkcl> so it's a mixture - but you should *not* really use them without permission
<lkcl> especially not for commercial ventures
<lkcl> PADS is ascii-formatted.
<lkcl> you can write your own converter.
<lkcl> someone has done a [proprietary] eagle-PADS converter
<lkcl> we will get to GPL situation later, once we have sufficient funds to be able to do "from-scratch" complete and total designs
<lkcl> based on nobody else's work

<focus_it> lkcl: that be why board http://www.gplsquared.com/SoM2/SoM2.html#11April2013 is gpl'd :)
<focus_it> although slower to start and hampered by $ work, there are 3 other independents working with it to push the envelope
<focus_it> just a bit sorry I can force march the project
<focus_it> I mean I can't force march project. The $ one I am is showing success and that keeps me further away from this project of all things!
hramrach has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
<focus_it> Assuming the design company Qi and Wits are willing to give out their gerber, would you like my factory to make say 10 to 20 boards. Personally I don't mind funding it but a real production run will have to be funded properly - e.g. an indiegogo or kickstarter type of thing
hramrach has joined #arm-netbook
<focus_it> At least then you got a few boards to play with.
xlab_ has joined #arm-netbook
<focus_it> lkcl: I noticed slash dot got a lot of strong nay sayers now. those trolls are could never possibly use the eoma, but speak as though they know better. Its total ignorance of what eoma project has achieved and trying to achieve which commercial companies have not yet achieved - interchangeable CPU boards and open designs.
Xlab has quit [Ping timeout: 258 seconds]
<focus_it> I think the world is desperate for these devices - last week alone I clocked up 3Gb of transfers from about 1500 users, and the project has hardly got off to a start yet e.g. the web site isn't even open yet, so its all travelling by word and mouth.
<focus_it> lkcl: If you do manage to get fully open sourced boards released, I think every EE department will be wanting one for their strong microprocessor engineers to complete their studies with a fully working SoC tablet or laptop design before they leave. It practically guarantees them a job! :)

<focus_it> L84Supper: I've learned a long time ago genius is wrapped in a package, even if its their own testacles :)
<focus_it> We can always cherry pick the bits we need and turn a blind eye to the rest.
<L84Supper> people also tend to look for others to surround themselves with similar beliefs
<L84Supper> beliefs vs facts
<focus_it> I know one guy who is honest and honourable in just about everything. But if a suitcase full of money is involved, then it will always magically disappear and you be offered a big smile and a perfectly reasonable explanation. :)
<focus_it> But there are still ways to manage such a resource.

<lkcl> focus: the reason why that gpl-squared board exists is because i started a KiCAD PCB and EOMA-68 schematics as AGPLv3 18 months ago, releasing it here: http://git.rhombus-tech.net/?p=eoma.git;a=tree;f=pcb/allwinner_a10/pcmcia
<lkcl> L84Supper: well, i'm getting things done. arrogance is the combination of "ignorance" and "ego". that's the definition.
<lkcl> L84Supper: i never claimed i had all the answers, and unfortunately "ambition" is often confused with "ego".
<lkcl> so, your accusation - and it is an accusation - that i am "arrogant" is completely wrong.
<lkcl> but, you may believe whatever you wish to believe.
<lkcl> you do whatever you want to do, and i'll keep on learning from mistakes and repeat until success, ok?
<lkcl> focus_it: money just empowers people to be "more of themselves". so a good person with money will just be "a more influential good person".
<lkcl> a miserable fucker with money will just be "someone who fucks with more people's minds than they were able to when they were poor".
<lkcl> so it's when people become truly wealthy that you find out their true nature. did they spend it on themselves? did they spend it on making other people happy or did they spend it on making other people *UN*happy.
focus_it has joined #arm-netbook
<focus_it> lkcl: the only reason I can do my board at all is because of all things you did give to me. So these slash dot trolls can go fsck themselves if they don't really understand what they are talking about :)
Undertasker has left #arm-netbook [#arm-netbook]
<focus_it> before finding this groups and the likes of mnemoc and many others, my original project was washed up because wits had done the almighty to me, and broke credibility with my boss after spending lots of money on them
<focus_it> none of the stuff they do is open sourced properly and there is no way to make your own stuff because so much information is missing
<focus_it> So more than anything arm-netbook has brought everything together to finally get over this hurdle and make everything work without NDAs as it should be - more business to everyone!!
MMlosh has quit [Quit: Bye...]
<focus_it> lkcl: just ignore the trolls - battening down the hatches and getting the work done and releasing the stuff is all that matters - at least to me. Everything else is just a distraction.

<focus_it> As for money - I'm lucky enough to fund GPL projects and not want anything back in return. A suitcase full of money sitting on my table won't even make me blink. However if there were an EOMA sitting on my desk right now, that would have my full attention!!! :)
