<wpwrak> by the way, a first try at the spacer frame: https://neo900.org/stuff/werner/tmp/spacer/1/

<ZetaR> wpwrak: That's awsome! Is the keyboard recessed in these photos?
<edwin> which version of freecad do you use? I tried to use freecad from the PPA for some 3d/2d drawing but it crashes a lot, I ended up switching to solvespace instead
<DocScrutinizer05> ZetaR: yes, the kbd seems a tad "sunken in" due to no proper sandwich prototype underneath the spacer frame
Kabouik has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<DocScrutinizer05> this is very first phase in initial prototyping, we just didn't want to wait any longer to share results with community. The proto still is far from perfect, and so are the demo snapshots - obviously

<ZetaR> I think it is great to see pics of the prototypes, even if they are just early test pieces.
<DocScrutinizer05> of course
<DocScrutinizer05> :-)
Kabouik has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<wpwrak> ZetaR: the thickness may be a little bit off. also, the original keyboard frame has a little "ramp" at the edge while the prototype has a right angle there. alas, my mill can't easily shape that edge. but sanding should improve it.
<wpwrak> edwin: 0.16, 5209 (git)
* DocScrutinizer05 seems to have seen exactly that in one of the files?
<DocScrutinizer05> maybe I'm mistaken
<wpwrak> edwin: i generate my models by script and use freecad only for visualization, exploration, and stl generation. i'd love to use the sketcher, but that workflow doesn't really seem to work
<edwin> ah it was the gui that was crashing for me (not the sketcher per se, I think part designer)
<wpwrak> (i.e., when you make a sketch, use it, then change the sketch, then the things that depend on it don't get updated. needless to say, i change my models a lot ...)
<edwin> solvespace is not scriptable (yet?) so it prbably wouldn't work for you
<wpwrak> scripting is crucial :)
<DocScrutinizer05> wpwrak even scripts libreoffice edits ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05> which indeed is a very nice think to achieve an almost ISO9000 reproducable quality in any production process
<wpwrak> yup :) it's reproducibility and debuggability i'm after
<DocScrutinizer05> so it's not at least this approach that makes us say "we now know we can build the whole thing, now let's do it"
<DocScrutinizer05> not at last* dang
<edwin> nice
<ZetaR> Would it be possible to use the spacerframe for the N900 motherboard for custom addon boards (rather than using an expanded backplate)?
<DocScrutinizer05> btw since Pyra seems to reach its final stage of production, Nikolaus should be available now to continue PCB/schematics proto development for Neo900, so we also have a new drive coming in there after several months of project-on-hold
<DocScrutinizer05> ZetaR: that's pretty hard since you at least need to lift the domesheet/kbd up by 2mm to make any space for such extensions. You can't lift up the complete N900 PCB since then it doesn't provide antenna and battery contacts anymore, and the BOB with sensors also would be too deep in the lower shell
<wpwrak> ZetaR: you'd have to duplicate a few things (dome sheet and probably also display connector), but if you do that, i guess it should work. the microphone may not be too great, though
<DocScrutinizer05> oh yeah, microphone too
<DocScrutinizer05> display connector is *probably* non-critical
<DocScrutinizer05> but another area you cannot use for placing extensions since flex cable can't get bent up to go over them
<ZetaR> Oh well, I just thought that there might be some interest among N900 users that aren't using a Neo900 board.
<ZetaR> aren't going to be using*
<wpwrak> DocScrutinizer05: btw, you may want to order some screws and bring them to the camp. then we can try to put the critter together.
<DocScrutinizer05> SCREWS! good point

<wpwrak> regarding the display flex, you could try it by loosening the screws of the display, opening it (while still attached), then trying to lift it ~3.3 mm off the case
<wpwrak> heh, reluctance to outdoorism seems widespread :)

<DocScrutinizer05> haha ;)
<DocScrutinizer05> sissies!
<DocScrutinizer05> 8 weeks living a vagrant's life may cure this mental problem ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05> or make it more funded on factual experience
<DocScrutinizer05> nah, it been pretty clear that Nikolaus would have a schedule collision
<DocScrutinizer05> I also asked EvilDragon but he didn't know yet, prolly no time either
<DocScrutinizer05> wpwrak: (screws) could you please remind me in due time?
<DocScrutinizer05> afk, bbl
<wpwrak> (screws) you may have to order them, no ? so the sooner the better
<DocScrutinizer05> we have a pretty good scew show next corner
<DocScrutinizer05> shop*
<DocScrutinizer05> http://www.douchman.de/
<wpwrak> nice :) do they also have that small stuff ?
<DocScrutinizer05> that's the question
<DocScrutinizer05> left one looks like M2 or smaller
<wpwrak> no way to tell how big they are :)
<wpwrak> but if they're around the corner, it'll be easy to find out
<DocScrutinizer05> assuming the table is usual holzfaserplatte
<DocScrutinizer05> but you're right, the leftmost is almost invisible, hard to tell how large it is even in relaten to the 4th on right side
<DocScrutinizer05> relation*
<DocScrutinizer05> if I should guess, I'd say M2 M4, M8, M12
<Pali> / # [ 29.904113] Division by zero in kernel.
<DocScrutinizer05> LOL
<DocScrutinizer05> Pali: dang, I had something I thought could be highly interesting for you, alas I forgot what exactly it was, and where
<Pali> all those maths problem... some math people decided that division by zero is not possible... and this is result, crashed kernel
<DocScrutinizer05> sth about a bug in kernel or sth
<DocScrutinizer05> yeah those mathematicians and their random silly rules
<DocScrutinizer05> invention of zero was a mistake already
<DocScrutinizer05> ;-)
<ZetaR> Zero is not a division problem if you get rid of the absorbing property. For this reason some mathematicians consider "zero" to be multivalued.
