<dgp> I wonder if it'll be so crashy for anyone else.. browser, youtube etc are fine, 3d stuff really pisses it off
<hste> dgp: heating problem?
<dgp> I think it's more to do with power. It crashed a lot before I stuck another heat sink on there. It'll run antutus 3d benchmark all the way through now but I can't get that temple run game to go into the game itself
<dgp> the machine locks up hard

<hste_> hi jas-hack_: I got the armhf on wheezy to use vivante, but it freezes when trying sth like glxgears
<hste_> jas-hacka_: didn't u also have some problems with freezing X?
<jas-hacks_> hste: no freezing on X

<jas-hacks_> hste: X freezing was on the older ubuntu builds because of my kernel build.
hste__ has joined #imx6-dongle
<hste__> jas-hacks_: found out why 4.0.0. didn't like x with vivante?
<jas-hacks_> hste: still trying to identify the cause
<hste__> jas-hacks_: I think the kernel initalize different part of memory for fb.
<hste__> the xorglog files starting with the old and the new kernel used different addresses

<projectgus> hste_: 1034260 bytes, if you look somewhere in the machine definition file it preallocates 192Mb if you have vivante enabled in the config
<projectgus> it's enabled even if you compiled vivante as a module, I don't know if that's necessary
<projectgus> it's probably safe though because you may not have 192mb of contiguous free memory when you come to load the module
<projectgus> hste_: oops 1034260 kbytes, obviously :)
<projectgus> the 5mb i think is preallocated for IPU, the prealloc is there near the vivante one
<projectgus> this is actually pretty usable: I'm connected laptop->bluetooth->phone (on train in Melbourne)->VPN on GK802->VPS in Sydney->Freenode server somewhere in Europe
<projectgus> :D
<projectgus> oh no, that's not true... the VPS isn't connected the VPN :(

<hste> projectgus: nice:) dropping vivante from kernel and just run plain xorg should give a bit more memory then
fossxplorer has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<projectgus> hste: can you use the vivante x11 drivers without the vivante module? I suspect no, so you'd be stuck with plain fbdev
<projectgus> fine if you don't care about crappy video performance, but otherwise probably not worth it
<projectgus> it might be possible to rejig the module to use less memory (presumably if you're not doing any 3d it won't need all of it), idk
<hste> projectgus: you can run in plainfbmode without vivante modules loaded but it reserve some fbmem
<projectgus> but using the vivante x11 drivers? nice
<hste> no just installing lxde without installing any vivante
