<triplelexx> hello
<triplelexx> I'm having some noob problems I guess trying to install Xubuntu on my gk802
<triplelexx> would anyone mind trying to help?
<triplelexx> that's got it working
<jas-hacks_> triplelexx: can help
<triplelexx> I can't even get the thing to boot
<triplelexx> oh , Hi, that would be awesome
<triplelexx> am I just supposed to extract the tar?
<triplelexx> I tried that, maybe I'm not putting the files on correctly
<triplelexx> I just fdisked my sdcard and extracted the files
<jas-hacks_> if you extract the tar, then you need a uboot somewhere to boot it.
<triplelexx> ahh ok, I thought it'd all be in boot folder already or something
<triplelexx> that's not mentioned on your last blog post
<triplelexx> so like the previous image
<triplelexx> I need to dd the unboot
<jas-hacks_> yes that's right
<triplelexx> hmm , I also had prob extracting in terminal
<triplelexx> I had to use archve manager
<jas-hacks_> If you have a another spare sd card, you can try the multi-boot uboot.
<triplelexx> if the tar is in my downloads folder and the disk is sdb, not sure what command to use
<triplelexx> I tried tar command but didn't like the destination
<triplelexx> the archive manager came up with few erros at end as well
<jas-hacks_> on your sd card, first create a small 15mb partition for uboot and the rest as ext4
<triplelexx> after taking ages extracting most of the files
<triplelexx> is there some docs with more specific info covering these basics?
<triplelexx> I'm a Windoes guy still till I get this working.. :)
<jas-hacks_> You can first download the 'oneric' image and 'dd' that
<triplelexx> thanks for the help and your work, would like to get more out of this pc
<triplelexx> what about the scripts, I tried those previously
<triplelexx> that would be the same?
<triplelexx> think the latest was a 12_04 gpu vpu
<triplelexx> oh, new post today as well
<jas-hacks_> after the oneric image, then follow http://jas-hacks.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/imx6-gk802-xubuntu-1204.html and after that Xubuntu 12.04
<jas-hacks_> sorry, after oneiric, follow http://jas-hacks.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/imx6-gk802-ubuntu-1204-preview-image.html and then Xubuntu 12.04
<triplelexx> ahh right, so won't work as after clean format, I misunderstood
<triplelexx> then, ok I'll give that a go
<jas-hacks_> It can be done with a clean format, which is quicker but you need to create an ext4 partition which starts about 15mb away from the start of the disk. This can done easily in Gparted.
<triplelexx> ok, so really just need the uboot and repartition
<jas-hacks_> yes
<triplelexx> cool, thanks for the help
<triplelexx> I'll try that now
rm has joined #imx6-dongle
<rm> hello
<rm> is there any Debian image for GK802&
<rm> ? *
<jas-hacks_> rm: I don't think anyone has create one
<jas-hacks_> /s/create/created
<triplelexx> sorry jas is the boot partition supposed to be FAT?
<triplelexx> and the rest ext4
<jas-hacks_> triplelexx: There should no partition on it
<triplelexx> with gparted
<triplelexx> I'm starting fresh, I thought you suggest make a 15mb partition
<triplelexx> ?
<jas-hacks_> in gparted you create one ext4 partition with a offset of 15mb
<triplelexx> oh right
<triplelexx> and then dd to the start?
<triplelexx> the uboot
<triplelexx> that's the bs=1 bit or something right?
<triplelexx> cool, I will try
<jas-hacks_> uboot is dd if=u-boot.imx bs=1k seek=1 of=/dev/<device> && sync
<jas-hacks_> and untar rootfs on ext4 partition
<triplelexx> sweet, think I got it from here now
<triplelexx> many thanks
<rz2k> rm: no, ubuntu 11.10, 12.04 and xubuntu something, also we are good with this situation
<rz2k> (these are all armel, no armhf libs are available)
<jas-hacks_> We have the gpu armhf libs but not all for the vpu
<rz2k> rm: also we dont have much users and a big wiki/ML, so we are not really a target for you
<rz2k> jas-hacks_: yes, I meant a set of libs :)
<rz2k> hope timesys will share everything some day
<rz2k> or we just reverse it
<rm> rz2k, I just got my GK802 from our slowpost
<rz2k> lol
<rm> and I dislike (or you could say despise) ubuntu
<rz2k> it didnt go on fire in moscow, you should send them a flower
<rm> yeah that is truly awesome
<jas-hacks_> rz2k: still looking to design a imx6 board?
<rz2k> jas-hacks_: 50% chances of happening sometime in summer
<rz2k> I'm looking forward for it, but I might be busy doing q7 carrier board
<jas-hacks_> rz2k: you can get pcb made?
<rz2k> yes
<rz2k> that is not for me, my boss wants q7 carrier board or imx6 custom board with needed stuff, first seems to be easier
<rz2k> rm: you can go for it, there are sources of ubuntu rootfs on freescale's site
<rz2k> and we dont have anything incompatible with default stuff
<rz2k> they even have .debs
<rz2k> (and sources for building them)
<jas-hacks_> rz2k: How much is Q7 som?
<rz2k> ~$100-$300
<rz2k> there are many options
<rz2k> they have module with 4GB ram and 16GB emmc...
* rz2k cant image what it should run, though
<rz2k> L3.0.35_4.0.0_UBUNTU_RFS and L3.0.35_4.0.0_ER_SOURCE are your targets
<jas-hacks_> rz2k: I saw a chinese imx6 som board but around 150$
<rz2k> they are all ETA 3months+
<rz2k> I checked everything
<rz2k> some of them even have ETA 6 months
<jas-hacks_> plus imx6q cpu is still expensive ~$40
<rz2k> you can have qualcomm for $1 after paying a licensing fee of $5M
<jas-hacks_> :D
<rz2k> so they have a point
<rz2k> of selling them for $40
<rz2k> :)
<jas-hacks_> ...just wish they would sort out armhf stuff
<rz2k> yes, me too.
<rz2k> outsourcing it to external organization seems like a ripoff
<jas-hacks_> I don't think timesys are involved in vpu, just gpu
<rz2k> they provide complete embedded linux solutions
<rz2k> so they cant just go without vpu
<jas-hacks_> I think vpu is held up by codec licences
<rz2k> also guy at wiki who tested i2c and pads around cpu deserves a candy
* rz2k still no idea who was that
<jas-hacks_> it was dgp, he's done a great job
<rz2k> oh
<rz2k> yes, thanks dgp!

<drachensun> hey wait, whats that about the pads?
<drachensun> is that how you guys figured out which GPIO lines did what? Tracing them off the pads to the connectors/pins?
<rz2k> i believe dgp run different settings directly to iomuxv3 addresses in ram
<rz2k> and checked if that brought up gpios or not
<rz2k> jas wrote a programm that does inverse thing, just dumping the iomux region and then he just compared it to tables in the reference manual
<rz2k> ref manual has everything covered in nice tables
<rz2k> check that out
<rz2k> and I'm going to have some sleep :p
<rz2k> good night.

<GasVesa> ok, gotta multi boot uboot working on USB rootfs

<abrasive> also, what's a multi-boot u-boot?
