<ill_logic> ocdtr_web: Thanks for the response. Well, "In fact, open source" is a goal of mine here.
<ill_logic> I hope pypi counts.
<ill_logic> But I guess most of it is Python, and the rest is built.
<ill_logic> In fact, it has to doesn't it, because of the different platforms.

<frigginglorious> Hey guys, I haven't been to active on here lately, but I think this might be a good place to ask advice on schools.
<frigginglorious> I'm looking to get a Masters somewhere.
<frigginglorious> Asheesh got me started going out and speaking at conferences after i tweeted about really being into SS.
<frigginglorious> well, he pushed a bit for me to go out and speak.
<frigginglorious> I like the idea of being a Developer Evangelist. But I'm pretty sure I don't have the know-how, and I'm a terrible autodidact. So I'm gonna go back to school probably.
<frigginglorious> Anyone have good advice on a good Masters program for an aspiring Developer-Evangelist?
<asheesh> Hi :) frigginglorious
<asheesh> I'm glad that I was able to do that!
<asheesh> On masters degrees: for jobs, they're usually not worth much if you already have a degree in computer science from a US institution. See: http://blog.alinelerner.com/how-different-is-a-b-s-in-computer-science-from-a-m-s-in-computer-science-when-it-comes-to-recruiting/
<asheesh> I guess that you want to be a developer evangelist because you have fun giving talks?
<asheesh> Being a bad autodidact is an interesting claim. I think that the best advice I can give you is that you should improve the quality of talks that you give, and the quality of documentation that you write, over time.
<asheesh> Given that goal, maybe one way to accomplish that is a masters degree (?).
<asheesh> I can ramble further, but I want to pause here to ask you frigginglorious what you think of the above.
<frigginglorious> asheesh: well, i have had a hard time motivating myself to make things. Haven't found the fun in it.
<frigginglorious> I might just need to shake things up in my life and throw myself into a different atmosphere. I figured going back to school could only have that affect of kickstarting my brain back into trying to do cool things.
<pdurbin> frigginglorious: when you look at developer-evangelist job ads, what if anything are you missing in terms of skills or experience??
<frigginglorious> pdurbin: damn, alright that's a good idea. I don't know why I feel like I need to jump back into academia.
<pdurbin> fake it till you make it :)
<asheesh> +1
<asheesh> Massive +1
<asheesh> That sentence has driven huge parts of my life ("fake it till you make it") for the better.
<asheesh> I would also ask: what is *interesting* about developer-evangelist type roles?
<frigginglorious> Yeah, I think i should meditate on this. I like people and travel and I like getting excited about the possibilities of tech.
<asheesh> If you like people and travel, one important fact is that getting invited to speak at conferences has done wonders for me in terms of meeting people who are also excited about the possibilities of tech.
<asheesh> It's for that reason that I remark on improving over time the quality of talks you give.
<asheesh> The first talk I ever (co-)gave was somewhat lousy, but over time, I've gotten better.
<asheesh> I found some talks whose structure and visuals I really liked, specifically the ones that I saw by Lawrence Lessig.
<asheesh> Those left a big impact on me.
<asheesh> For one thing, the content was compelling and drove my actiosn over the at-least four years after seeing one such talk.
<asheesh> For another, I was so impressed by the delivery.
<pdurbin> asheesh: was it recorded?
<asheesh> The Lessig talk? There's a million Lessig talks and they're all breathtaking and recorded.
<asheesh> I can try to find the 2006 one that I saw. Let me see.
<asheesh> http://wiki.lessig.org/LessigLinks wow yay <3 wiki.lessig.org
<asheesh> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPbe4UUQL38 appears to be very similar, even if not 100% the same.

<pdurbin> bookmarked, thanks
<pdurbin> asheesh: he ran for president, you know
<frigginglorious> oh, im sure i've seen videos of this Lessig character before
<frigginglorious> Yeah, i've seen two of his TED talks already. yeah, he is good :P
