<houkime> the situation with Google Fuchsia is a bit worrying.
<houkime> capability-based microkernel basis seems at least theoretically superior to the monolithic linux design
<houkime> and the concept has been there for a looong time, just very neglected.
<houkime> and now google buys its way into future by adopting a neglected concept
<houkime> and is quite likely to succeed because it has the resources to develop it
<houkime> and hereby we will obtain another foss kernel which is probable to overperform linux, but not community-lead.
<bencoh> indeed
<houkime> It is a bad situation because it will be prone to electron/chromium-like controversial behavior (there was a story when a foss google electron was fetching a binary blob and enabling a mic)
<houkime> The open source by itself is not enough for security, and community will have a trouble catching up its devspeed to provide a community-based alternative.
<houkime> even if you fork fuchsia to secure it, google will still develop it faster

<houkime> the only reasonable community reaction i can imagine is to build more comfortable microkernel development toolchain
<houkime> so that developing crazy kernels becomes easy as pie
<houkime> then community will have a possibility to quickly generate and test new concepts
<houkime> and one of the experiments will be more promising than a google kernel

<houkime> Among megacorps Google is really the largest world threat nowadays I think. Apple is self-enclosed, Microsoft is still invasive but became quite weak, facebook is also enclosed more or less. But google, google is everywhere and still pushing.

<sicelo> houkime: nice video! tyvm
<houkime> not really to the level though. My narration and video planning are still low.
<houkime> thx
<houkime> Want to ease the entry barrier as much as possible.
<houkime> probably there will be a full-blown contribution guide
<sicelo> it's a good start :)
<houkime> on the layout side esds are currently killing me and i need to overhaul them somehow
<houkime> joerg says that one can just leave generic fps there but the thing is they don't fit
<houkime> This is the second time i have esd troubles
<houkime> although last time it was just placement without part overhauls

<houkime> updated issues and planning repos to include this videolink.
jonsger has joined #neo900
<houkime> also clarified goals for contribution streamlining in Planning
<houkime> basically neo900 should be so easy to contribute to that it can be used as an edu project for novice mobile devs.
<houkime> I'm really a bit sick of barriers everywhere.
<houkime> barriers make people think they can't do something even if they in fact can
<houkime> to give you an outline of my noobness - before i started to poke neo900 i barely used pcb eda once.
<sicelo> but, have you ever produced a pcb?
<houkime> nope. neo900 is really in THAT much trouble now
<houkime> that even me with my pure physics education is better than nothing
jonsger has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<sicelo> interesting then :)
<houkime> I try to be scientific and rigorous and apply theory and internet wherever can but that's it
<houkime> I will probably include some list of most useful internet resources also then
<houkime> I think that it's the time when community should save the day even if it is barely competent. Otherwise there's just not enough devpower.
<houkime> tbh neo900 is already quite a kerbal device by concept.
<houkime> davethewave tried to join from outside and probably drowned in data so i think it is a signal for entry to be eased.
<houkime> if even when people want to join it is too hard sth needs to be done

<houkime> BTW neo900 can become the biggest pcb-related material source on peertube.
<houkime> like, 10 videos and there will be a total media domination
<houkime> there's only electube.nulled.network - a specialised instance, but it is a bit fragmented it seems and has almost no views
<houkime> like, even my pcb tour is the most popular video with "pcb" in it

<houkime> the only problem is that Trending page is a bit broken now, because otherwise we might as well get into trends at some point
<houkime> developers seem to be overwhelmed with issues as of now
Kabouik- has joined #neo900
<houkime> btw I just thought - we miss a backer honorboard.
<houkime> on the neo900.org
<houkime> or at least in the repos somewhere.
<houkime> Just looked at peertube's - they have quite a wall of names
<houkime> ideally i might place it even on pcb itself
<houkime> but i think it won't fit and will interfere with thechnical markup lines, and wrapping will be a pin
<houkime> *pain
<houkime> there is one more idea on this - one can include names into compoents references
<houkime> this is quite hilarious
<atk> houkime: how can you place 500 names on a pcb?
<atk> or well
<atk> it will end up being 800 names at this rate
<houkime> I've seen similar stuff when gamers on youtube name characters and ingame stuff with backernames
<pribib> a url?
<houkime> url is ok, but a bit on a banal side. also not really useful if the address is long to type it
<houkime> also from the filming view the reward effect will be stronger if i for example will call resistors by backernames out loud - like you, R15alsobacker, go here and connect
<houkime> One just needs to leave the functional <PartLetter><SheetNumber>prefix untouched
<atk> won't that affect the silkscreen?
<houkime> hmmm... rechecked pcb real quick
<houkime> seems like it will, but only for large/rare parts
<houkime> it will affect fab layer however
<houkime> fab layer is virtual though.
<houkime> idk what pcbhouse will say though
<houkime> technically it shouldn't be a real problem, it's just about how much additional trouble one wants to have to honor backers
pagurus has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<houkime> there should be at least one non-standard cool honoring i think. Project is very long and backers deserve sth cool.
<houkime> *honoring method employed
<houkime> also one can theoretically engrave a wall of names with laser to a back of a case
grubles8 has joined #neo900
grubles8 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<houkime> even from an inner side this will be nice
<houkime> laser engraving is not sth superduper complex to do afaik
<houkime> but this is more for an actual production stage.
<houkime> if anything, one can have a script to temporary reverse component naming just for production
<houkime> and they will be still there somewhere on the case and all over internet files
pagurus has joined #neo900
<houkime> prbib: if url it probably needs to be a qr code
<houkime> prbib: case engraving still feels more direct though

<chomwitt> didnt know that!
<chomwitt> kudos for the video
<houkime> next time will try to be more structurised and fastpaced since it was edited together anyway
<houkime> there was also a problem that obs ate some split seconds from the end of fragments
