hmm, reading about VW's latest scandal (CO2), we may find also them on gofundme before too long ...
<DocScrutinizer05>
I guess they have even more precise methods to determine what you *really* think than just silly twitter where everybody just plays silly games
<DocScrutinizer05>
VW's latest "svandal" is a red herring I guess. *Of course* every car emits more CO2 during normal driving than on a sterile testbench setup where you got no wind and no real street and no steering and no passengers etc
<DocScrutinizer05>
it's age old story that in real life you never can reach the low L/100km (high miles/gallon) that any car suggests in testbench
<saper>
I think VW scandal has another dimension: it's a problem with malicious, black-box software.
<saper>
Besides, they shot themselves and a whole German industry in the foot. If one imposes environmental limits and norms to stop imports of cheap cars from China; and *then* it turns out everybody is only cheating; then we can shut down the whole stuff and the famous industry goes down... this can have catastrophic consequences
<Oksana>
Hmm, sterile testbench setup could have obese passenger-models in all four seats, wherein real life shows that many 4seat cars carry only one human. But, testers did not want to hear complaints from manufacturer, so they made tests too simple...

hey! weird question, but .. do you know if the PHS8 modem has AT commands to test low-level RF? Lets say I generate a frequency into the antenna port, is there any way I can verify it through an AT command? I skimmed through the AT command set, didn't find any test commands at all. I suppose these type of diagnostic commands do exist, but are generally not documented. Anyone know?
<saper>
never heard about such AT commands, but maybe I didn't dig deep enough
<saper>
probably it could require some 'raw' DSP access
<mago_>
i ask because we have a PHS8 modem in a product, and would like to be able to verify that the antenna connection has been soldered/mounted properly during manufacturing. So to avoid having to put in a SIM-card, make it go online, we would instead just verify it using a carrier wave
<mago_>
i suppose the neo900 would face this issue aswell, in production
<mago_>
how do you intend to verify the antenna in your manufacturing process?
<saper>
modems do search for a network without SIM cards, don't they?
* saper
pulls a SIM card out of his Option Globetrotter
<saper>
what's the AT for the signal level or list of networks available?
<mago_>
AT+CSQ is signal strength
<saper>
+CSQ: 14,99
<mago_>
thereś also AT^SMONI

i was just curious on how it has been solved for the neo900; but maybe it hasn't?
<mago_>
saper: in general, it's nice to have no external dependencies in your manufacturing process. the factory should not stop just because the mobile operator has a breakdown :)
<saper>
if one is serious about manufacturing one has vendor docs
<saper>
and puts a test point on a board or whatever
<Wizzup>
mago_: what do you mean, maybe it hasn't?
<amatus>
it would be neat if the modems had a command for measuring SWR

<DocScrutinizer05>
what's the problem with selling a GPL app on itunes appstore?
<amatus>
no problem
<DocScrutinizer05>
I rather have problems with the crappy resp nonexistent user manual of limechat
<amatus>
why do you even tolerate apple products?
<DocScrutinizer05>
huh?

i assumed you are trying to use limechat on an iDevice

oh ok, not yours then

if any OSX savvy user in here: how would you spot the worst storage-hogging files on a over-full mac HDD ?
<unclouded>
does their "find" support -printf?
<DocScrutinizer05>
BSD I guess
<DocScrutinizer05>
so should?
<unclouded>
find -printf "%s %P\n" | sort -n | tail is my tool of choice
<DocScrutinizer05>
thought along same line :-)
<saper>
"du -ks directory"
<DocScrutinizer05>
thanks!
<saper>
du -k
<saper>
I mainly do "du -ks | sort -nr > du-k" for a whole parition
<DocScrutinizer05>
actually that's what I do on linux
<saper>
du takes into account the block size taken by the files, is just plain file size in bytes.
<saper>
du is posix
<DocScrutinizer05>
I wonder what's -k
<DocScrutinizer05>
kilobytes?
<DocScrutinizer05>
and why -s?
<unclouded>
summarize: less output
<DocScrutinizer05>
doesn't it yield only one line output unless you give multiple arguments (you gave 0 args)
<unclouded>
yes, that's what I use when I want to know the space used in total under a particular dir
<unclouded>
"du -sh" for me
<DocScrutinizer05>
yes
<DocScrutinizer05>
du -ks|sort doesn't make much sense, no?
<unclouded>
guess not, unless the -s switch does something different of different systems
<unclouded>
not sure that Darwin "find" can be used to find large files. doesn't support -printf and -size seems to match size exactly suggests the man page
