<illwieckz>
hi, it seems there is spam in your µBlog
<DocScrutinizer05>
aha
<Wizzup>
I would suggest to stay a bit in the shade about all this not to upset possible donators that don't care too much
<DocScrutinizer05>
it seems there is spam on my PC, since last update
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, I can *promise* that Neo900 UG won't support (nor ship) any system with systemd
<DocScrutinizer05>
HEHE! Golden! >>[2014-11-29 Sat 00:01:34] <mofino> comment from slapdot: "Seems clear that we've lost Debian, an operating system, to developers of a mere application, "desktop." Why do we even need operating systems? A desktop is all anyone needs... just run your servers on that!" <<
<ShadowJK>
I don
<ShadowJK>
t even understand
<DocScrutinizer05>
I'll add a ".. and your phones too" ... wait isn't that firefoxOS or whatsitcalled?
<ShadowJK>
I have a firefox os phone ! :-)
<DocScrutinizer05>
ShadowJK: freedesktop aka gnome aka systemd cabal hijacking linux and turning it into a system that will only be useful for desktop systems
<ShadowJK>
Amusingly, it works great as a phone, and as a mifi, but it's shit at browsing the web
arcean has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<DocScrutinizer05>
sure, a system tailored to fit only one particular usecase damn better at least does that one usecase decently
<DocScrutinizer05>
a little story from the past: on Openmoko we tried to make our Neo work with PA. Epic fail. Resort to ALSA which didn't expose any of the PA problems
<ShadowJK>
Well, in my book, and probably others' too, I'd first have working web browser, second working messaging, and only third down working voice call :-)

shudders thinking about making systemd work on GTA02
<useretail>
hey guys, is it worth to replace camera module to n97 counterpart?
<DocScrutinizer05>
useretail: prolly not
<DocScrutinizer05>
they should be absolutely identical, though several users _claim_ the N97 was higher quality. From inspecting the module I can't see how they would differ
<useretail>
well, i compared photos, and they look a bit better with n97 module on n97
<ShadowJK>
N900 flash blinded the camera, maybe that explains the difference?
<DocScrutinizer05>
useretail: btw you know we will use N97 cam on Neo900?
<useretail>
cool
<DocScrutinizer05>
ShadowJK: that won't change by changing the module
<DocScrutinizer05>
;-)
<ShadowJK>
Yeah but I mean like if comparing N97 device vs N900 device?
<DocScrutinizer05>
it's more a problem of the case design
<ShadowJK>
Or have you tested N97 and N900 cam module in Neo900 case already? ;-)
<DocScrutinizer05>
those who calim the N97 superior quality did so after swapping the N900 cam module
<DocScrutinizer05>
*I* didn't
<ShadowJK>
Btw, what is the status of these parts anyway? I would have imagined that N97 era spare parts would be drying up already :s
<DocScrutinizer05>
seems cam modules are still available in quantities
<ShadowJK>
wow
<DocScrutinizer05>
but yes, generally exactly those legacy parts are one of our biggest headache. That's why I am about to start a "buy your risk parts" campaign
<illwieckz>
If neo900 developpers call themselves "Veteran Unix Admin" like this one: https://lab.dyne.org/GnuLinuxPurification (the guy behind devuan) I will never buy a neo900, It would be more interesting to buy a shining android phone with a samsung rootkit. My first need for neo900 is security, and "Veteran Unix Admins" who think that root is the good unix account to browse the web because «it is his pc in his house» (or his smartp
<illwieckz>
hone in his hand) can't be the good guy to develop a secure neo900.
<Wizzup>
Your jump from VUA to "running everything as root" is ridiculous
<Wizzup>
And it also has nothing to do with systemd or whatsoever
<DocScrutinizer05>
illwieckz: that's actually your problem when you buy a hardware by considerations about your sympathy for some of the guys building it
<illwieckz>
there is 6 links to a page fullfilled of "logical fallacies" from this guy on the neo900 homepage, which is not good for your public reputation
paulk-collins has quit [Quit: Quitte]
<illwieckz>
and this problem is not my problem
<Wizzup>
I don't think the project linked is inherent to a single person, and I also don't see logical fallacies on that page per se
<DocScrutinizer05>
then it's no problem :-)
<Wizzup>
If you want security, then you'd know better than use systemd
<DocScrutinizer05>
indeed
<Wizzup>
DocScrutinizer05: but seriously, would suggest to keep the ublog a bit less politically loaded
<DocScrutinizer05>
and you better evaluate security of Neo900 by yourself instead of judging about security of the hw by statements of its devels regarding systemd
<DocScrutinizer05>
ooh, linking to a URL is already politically loaded?
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, when it is then I'm happy to have the page politically loaded
<illwieckz>
I'm not judging about systemd, but about links to troll on the neo900 homepage
<Wizzup>
well, you could say: ``This looks interesting: <linK>''
<Wizzup>
rather than the link six times
<Wizzup>
illwieckz: you define it as a troll
<DocScrutinizer05>
how is that 6 times? I only posted it three times
<Wizzup>
it shows up as six links here :)
<illwieckz>
three times without any comment sound like spam
