From Gerry: Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, we have only 9 units on stock and waiting for a new shipment from Nokia. We hope we get the shipment from Nokia in this week and can send your shipment, kind regards
<DocScrutinizer05>
cool
<Oksana>
Nokia... Is it still Nokia, or was it already transferred to Microsoft? :)
<Oksana>
Reading about MicroB and Gecko (I personally would prefer keeping MicroB-and-mozembed based on super-new Gecko engine): netscape-api ... this thing is 15yo :) oh, good reason. "It is old" (or is it 20 ? I don't remember any more) I didn't say it was a good reason ;)
<DocScrutinizer05>
anyway now we know ;-P
<DocScrutinizer05>
wget is next
<DocScrutinizer05>
hmm? Oksana, sorry you lost me
<Oksana>
Just reading the history. And laughing at discussion. And thinking about weird hybrid of 'old' MicroB with new Gecko engine.
<Oksana>
MicroB was really handy. With its excellent understanding of MIME types. And spiral zoom. At the same time, new Gecko engine might offer better speed, some bug-fixes.
<ds2>
is the new Gecko engine less memory hungry?
<ds2>
on a stock N900, the browser is barely useful if you have a few other apps going in the background (i.e. gvm + modest)
<Oksana>
ds2: That's the question...

from dealing with webkit on android, it just ain't worth it
<ds2>
(stock, not the modified proprietary versions)
<Oksana>
Have you seen any other browser, on Fremantle, which understands the file associations well enough to correctly open/save the files from the Web? Open App Manager for deb, and so on?
<Oksana>
I am fan of Gecko, from old times. And I remember how spiral zoom is much easier to use than click-zoom or double-click-zoom. And there are a lot of such nice details in MicroB.
<Oksana>
Quuiiieeeettttt... No chargers arrived yet. Not even a letter about them being at customs ;-/

The chargers-seller finally 'surrendered' the tracking number. It did leave their country almost two weeks ago, it did arrive to this continent four days ago (unless there is a confusion of two different parcels with same tracking number), but I am not sure when I will receive it.
<Oksana>
Either way, it's not exactly their fault that 'express' is so slow.
<wpwrak>
i'm sure they chose the fastest ship available :)
<Oksana>
Hmm... Likely. Shipping across the globe should be expected to take long. Still, three weeks? I think I am fortunate they have not chosen sea-shipping, or have they?
<Oksana>
Hope to get the parcel today or tomorrow. Because three working days for such a small distance remaining should be more than enough.
<Oksana>
"Registered Mail International", that's how their post calls it.
<wpwrak>
2 weeks sounds like regular air mail. that can pass between lots of stations. sea would be more like 2 months.
<Oksana>
That sounds good. Meaning, no unusual delays, just usual shipping. Though, why would regular air mail take 2 weeks, if a human flying would spend no more than 2 days in flight? Processing parcels at post offices? Choosing 'right' air-plane? Waiting for large number of parcels to accumulate?
xes has quit [Quit: Going offline...]
<Oksana>
It just does not help customer's nerves when their 'promised' shipping time is much 'faster' than 'real-life' shipping time.
<jonwil>
regular non-express air mail takes longer because it doesn't get expedited customs processing and because the cargo plane probably visits many places before it gets to you.
<jonwil>
not to mention that there are probably deliberate delays added to make people buy the more expensive "express" products
<Oksana>
So the parcel was sent by regular air mail, even though on EBay they promise express shipping? Curiosity question: Will it be possible to have CyanogenMod on Neo900?
<jonwil>
I doubt cyanogenmod will appear, they seem to target devices with much bigger sales volume and also devices that already run Android

Neo900 will be running Replicant... Or expected to. How is Replicant different from CyanogenMod, I wonder?
<bencoh>
foss stuff
<bencoh>
they tried and REed most of samsung ril for instance
<bencoh>
and they limit to foss running on the phone
<bencoh>
(well, at least on main cpu)
<Oksana>
Well, if that's the only difference, then Replicant + foss RE-bits from foss-fremantle = CyanogenMod?
mvaenskae has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
<jonwil>
Does replicant go for FOSS GPU drivers
<jonwil>
?
<jonwil>
that's something Neo900 is unlikely to have anytime soon
<bencoh>
hmm, no
<bencoh>
I'm not sure whether they just removed 3D support, or they let the user choose
<bencoh>
but considering the "Missing" in their status table, I'd say they just removed it
<bencoh>
broken telephony on gta04/replicant is quite a pity :/
<bencoh>
the only open project is the list has no phone support
<bencoh>
in the list*
<Oksana>
Why broken telephony? It does not require 3D, does it?
<bencoh>
hm no ... I dunno what's wrong to be honest
<bencoh>
might be related to unimplemented/broken ril/fso bridge
