<sb0>
unsurprisingly, the acpi entry for my nfc chip is rubbish
<sb0>
the nfc chip uses 10-bit i2c addressing, so when you're the average lenovo moron, what do you do? you fill in the highest possible 7-bit address in acpi and hope for the best.
<cr1901_modern>
nfc chip?
<sb0>
near field communications
<cr1901_modern>
That's what I thought. Idk much about it.
<cr1901_modern>
But isn't the highest possible 7-bit address in I2C reserved anyway?
<sb0>
the highest possible 7-bit addresses are reserved for 10-bit addressing, yes.
<sb0>
but the acpi table incorrectly contains the highest non-10-bit 7-bit address
<sb0>
and claims it's a 7-bit address device, too
<sb0>
I reckon they generated the ACPI table with some garbage GUI tool with spinboxes that would not go higher, so it was "best effort"
<cr1901_modern>
1/1024 chance of getting it right I suppose...

sb0: so uh, do we have a real hammer somewhere?
<sb0>
metallic one? I don't think so
<whitequark>
well, I'll need one to unpack that wooden cage...
<whitequark>
guess i'll go to po lam tomorrow, needed that anyway
<sb0>
most likely the small chinese hardware shops in the basement of the domain building have it
<whitequark>
hm, there are shops there? didn't know
<whitequark>
ok
<sb0>
yes. and they have a number of interesting things, e.g. MAPP canisters. they're also quite friendly.
<sb0>
it's not exactly the domain, it's another mall in the same building
<whitequark>
oh, *domain*
<whitequark>
not the yau tong ind city
<sb0>
yup. OTOH I found a restaurant in YTIC lately...
