<kyak> do you guys know a way to get to pins of FMC-LPC connector without those fancy breakout boards that cost more than the FPGA board?
<kyak> what i want to do is generate some PWM and capture digital pulses using my Zedboard
<kyak> and i'm just wondering how on earth this board is considered "hackable" if there is no easy access to FPGA pins...
<sb0> since when hacks had to be easy?
<sb0> if you want just a couple pins, a cheap option may be to order a bare FMC connector from samtec, and solder wires directly on it

<larsc> 'cheap'
<larsc> xilinx has a breakout board I don't think it is that expensive
<larsc> well, ok 159$

<cr1901_modern> sb0: since when hacks had to be easy? <-- Is there any reason they shouldn't be?

<kyak> yeah, very cheap
<kyak> "hacks" are not necessarily easy, but the term "hackable" usually implies it should be easy (and cheap, too)
<kyak> really cheap, not half the price of the zedboard for bare fmc connector
fengling__ is now known as fengling
<kyak> i'm now thinking about utilizing the XADC connector of zedboard, since it's much more accessible..
<larsc> why not the pmod headers?
<kyak> was just going to say that.. yeah, they look great for the purpose
<kyak> so it looks like it is possible to couple Zedboard and DRV8312-C2-KIT from TI to spin the PMSM motor
<kyak> i have the two kits, and was trying to avoid buying costly ~2k kit from Avnet
<kyak> (that is, FMCMOTCON2)

<sb0> so linux can't easily execute arbitrary acpi methods from userspace?
<sb0> well there's the somewhat limited acpi_call module...
