<sb0>
how much torque can be applied until it starts leaking?
<whitequark>
it won't start leaking until it actually moves
<sb0>
I have just received the cf35 cross, we can hook up the BA gauge soon
<whitequark>
ok
<whitequark>
I'm still trying to figure this out
<whitequark>
the leak
<whitequark>
I used my pristine valve with pretty much identical behavior
<whitequark>
right now I'm baking out the part that is closed out when the valve closes, to see if it is maybe not a leak but something with high vp
<whitequark>
water?
<sb0>
we can do a simple system with turbopump + dn100->cf35 + cross with 2 windows (to watch the gauge filament + plug the system) + gauge
<whitequark>
we can try that
<sb0>
and watch plasma as well, in case we really get lousy vacuum
<whitequark>
the turbopump has a very high pumping rate, high enough to get you under -3 even with a large leak
<whitequark>
well, I guess we could have a macroscopic leak
<rjo>
the majority of axial torque is through the bolts so that it just compresses the gasket. and that is usually not a problem. bending torque is also not likely to be an issue in most cases if you can assemble it. prestress is sufficient.
<whitequark>
anyway, the fixture for the cryocoolers is progressing nicely
<whitequark>
so I will order some He and we could also try and do leak testing with pirani, if we won't find the leak by other means
<sb0>
maybe it just needs baking and/or longer pumping time?
<whitequark>
possibly

sb0: baked it out, no difference
<sb0>
did the pressure increase when you heated it?
<whitequark>
I did not heat it with the pressure gauge on, since it has magnets touching the tube and a plastic case
<sb0>
btw do we have high temperature cable?
<whitequark>
not really
<sb0>
the silicone stuff used in proper soldering iron cables
<sb0>
or for heaters
<whitequark>
I have some HV silicone cable, but that's expensive
<sb0>
the BA gauge can be on during bakeout if we use that
