BenG83_: Do you have the PB now?
<BenG83_>
still stuck in customs
<BenG83_>
not sure what they are doing
<tkaiser>
BenG83_: Charge for customs/VAT of course. You should provide an EORI number then you get an invoice later and direct delivery. Anyway: do numbers exist how long a charge cycle will take?
<tkaiser>
I took Kamil's latest battery DT bits and now Pinebook charges with 15W compared to 7W before.
<BenG83_>
I increased my offline charge current to 2A
<BenG83_>
online there is not much room in the 3A power budget
<dgp>
tkaiser: The DT for the H5 version of the new pi zero you linked me yesterday seems to be wrong. pwrseq for the wifi needs to be active low it seems
<dgp>
for the H3 version but they should be the same
<buZz>
H5 pi zero?
<MoeIcenowy>
H5 pi zero?
<MoeIcenowy>
do you mean zero plus?
<dgp>
yeah
<buZz>
broadcom switching out their own tech?
<dgp>
The better wifi but less usable and more expensive version
<buZz>
i think you ment ; Orange Pi Zero Plus 2
<buZz>
someone should fire their boardnamer
<dgp>
I think they feed in the parts they can get cheap that week into a script and it spits out gerbers and confusing name for the board ;)
<buZz>
:P
xes_ is now known as xes
* dgp
just noticed the zero plus has no usable usb sockets :/
<zoobab>
"someone should fire their boardnamer" +1
<zoobab>
give the boards a planet name, but not this stupid naming
<dgp>
or just Orange Pi + <chipname>-<amountofram>-<amountofemmc>
<MoeIcenowy>
dgp : and -<ethernet_speed>-<wifi included>
<plaes>
and then you get board with wifi and hdmi and without hdmi
<plaes>
and without lan ...
<dgp>
Long name with most of the specs would be more useful than one, zero, lite etc
lurchi_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<tkaiser>
dgp: Thanks for the heads up regarding pwrseq. Seems you should have ordered the $2 'Expansion Dock' too it seems ;)
<tkaiser>
dgp: At least the eMMC on the Zero Plus 2 thingies is pretty fast.
<dgp>
I didn't really notice that the big shiny connector was HDMI and not USB. I had it in my mind that it was the same as the original just with the ethernet removed to make space for the ap6212
perr has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<dgp>
Yeah.. but I only really need 16MB ;)
<dgp>
I asked if they could make a version of the original just with the ap6212 instead of the xr819 but they said no :(
<MoeIcenowy>
yes the answer is really no
<MoeIcenowy>
you cannot easily put another Wi-Fi chip there, as it's not the standard wifi module slot, but a specific chip
<dgp>
MoeIcenowy: I didn't mean put the ap6212 on the same footprint..
<dgp>
It would mean switching out the part and re-running the auto router ;p
<MoeIcenowy>
dgp: the board will be totally redesigned to place an AP6212
<dgp>
MoeIcenowy: They seem to reuse a lot of their existing schematics to come up with each new board. All the junk in the schematics that doesn't belong to the board in question etc
<dgp>
component placing on the new zero is pretty similar to the old one too

<MoeIcenowy>

<MoeIcenowy>
or just hardwire -- I'm not crazy
<wens>
didn't you mention that the 2 mixers aren't the same?
<MoeIcenowy>
yes

they aren't the same

Hi there sirs!
<TheLinuxBug>
Anyone around with an Orange Pi (PC,Plus PC, Plus 2E, One, NEO) with HDMI screen and a usb mouse who would be willing to beta test an Android release for the boards. If so, please drop me a pm, thanks!
LargePrime has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<fALSO>
I have a PC2
<TheLinuxBug>
yeah its for H3 unfortunately
<fALSO>
i've been using the original distribution because armian is very unstable with kernel 4
<fALSO>
unstable and slow
<fALSO>
I also have a H3 the PC
<fALSO>
but stopped usiging it after i got the PC2
<TheLinuxBug>
well if you have time to test and an sdcard for it drop me a pm will fill you in :)
<fALSO>
I could test... the only problem is that I dont have an HDMI screen :/
<fALSO>
i normally use them as "home servers"
<TheLinuxBug>
ahh well may work with DVI converter, but kinda hard to use Android without a screen
<pmpp_>
TheLinuxBug: what features need to be tested ?
<fALSO>
ahh android
<fALSO>
i didnt even saw that :-P
<TheLinuxBug>
pmpp_: drop me a pm and we can chat, trying not to really put it in here cause thats not subject here, but was hoping to find a few people who could help as a lot of people with those boards hang around here
<deskwizard>
TheLinuxBug, sounds like I need to order one of those boards hehe
<pmpp_>
really only feature i'd like to test is kexec'ing android to linux :D

fALSO: 'kernel 4' is unstable and slow?
<zoobab>
any idea how to force all the CPU cores to be active all the time?
<fALSO>
when armbian started making images with the kernel 4 for the PC2
<fALSO>
tkaiser, it crashed a lot, and was MUCH slower than kernel 3x
<fALSO>
tkaiser, it crashed a lot, and was MUCH slower than kernel 3.x
<fALSO>
dont know if recently its the same
<fALSO>
But i guess is the same, i've been looking at the kernel sources armbian uses to build that image
<fALSO>
and it hasnt having any commits
<tkaiser>
fALSO: main difference between 'kernel 4' and the 3.10.65 those Xunlong images are using is that voltage regulation with mainline kernel works while not with Xunlong kernel. So you end up with the SoC all the time at 1.1V and I would assume you run in powering problems with mainline kernel.
<fALSO>
its possible
destroyedlolo has joined #linux-sunxi
<fALSO>
im hoping it gets better
<tkaiser>
fALSO: you hope for hardware problems on your side getting better? :)
<fALSO>
i hope it gets faster
<fALSO>
because im still with kernel 3:-)
<destroyedlolo>
Hi all,
<fALSO>
Linux OrangePiPC2 3.10.65 #55 SMP PREEMPT Fri Nov 18 16:17:28 CST 2016 aarch64 GNU/Linux
<tkaiser>
fALSO: With mainline kernel H5 can clock beyond 1.3 GHz while you're at 1008 MHz with this crappy BSP kernel. So 'kernel 4' is a lot faster. You just have to figure out what causes your stability problems (my two favourites as usual: powering problems or broken SD cards or maybe the combination of both)
<fALSO>
when i tried, even reboot didnt work lol :-)
<fALSO>
or shutdown
<fALSO>
i have to try it again
<fALSO>
last time i tried that "nightly image" it even didnt boot
<fALSO>
i was looking at the NEW board
<fALSO>
with H5 and 2GB
<fALSO>
but i guess that there isnt any OS for it LOL
<fALSO>
at least on their site it didnt exist
<dgp>
OS that doesn't boot is probably better than the stock images :p
<terra854>
Just wondering, does the A64 also suffer from the same issue that prevents clocking it ti 1.3Ghz?
<terra854>
*to
<tkaiser>
fALSO: OPi Prime is almost the same as OPi PC2, it's just twice the DRAM and two different pin mappings.
<tkaiser>
terra854: My Pinebook runs with 1.3GHz. Why shouldn't it? ;)
jernej_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<miasma>
tkaiser: it's surprising that rpi even runs with low voltage. my second htpc had a 2.5m usb cable for powering it :)
<miasma>
thanks for that tip in the cnx blog
<tkaiser>
MoeIcenowy: I consider 2.4GHz only Wi-Fi broken anyway ;)
<terra854>
tkaiser: MAinline?
<fALSO>
tkaiser, i thinking about buying one
<fALSO>
but im waiting for it to lower the price
<tkaiser>
terra854: 3.10.105 with tweaked DT. But since 1.3V VDD_CPUX can't be exceeded (at least I don't know how) it would run instable with heavy loads at 1.3 GHz
<fALSO>
its like 33€ for me
<zoobab>
what are your impression on the Pinebook?
<zoobab>
sent a mail to them about Armbian support, no reply so far
<terra854>
tkaiser: So it's due to overheat and microUSB power problems?
<tkaiser>
terra854: Nope, I just weren't able to figure out how to tell AXP803 to feed A64 with more than 1.3V. And simply dropped the idea since 'overclocking is stupid' [tm]
<tkaiser>
terra854: The whole idea to 'overclock' A64 is stupid without active cooling. When you increase the core voltage so that A64 runs *reliably* above 1.2GHz then you run in heat problems. Now the 3rd time! https://github.com/longsleep/build-pine64-image/pull/3
<terra854>
tkaiser: I know that, anyway, is the Pinebook's cooling mechanisms sufficent for the A64 to clock at 1.34Ghz?
<tkaiser>
terra854: And see the screenshot here: https://forum.armbian.com/index.php?/topic/4133-quick-pinebook-preview-review/ (so no, without some tweaks heavy loads will trigger throttling)
<terra854>
tkaiser: How come the first trip point is at 65*C? Shouldn't it be at 80 something degrees?
jernej_ has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<tkaiser>
terra854: That's what Pinebook ships with currently. No idea why but I would believe someone thought about that?

BTW, although this spec, I've also tried it out, but without success ... it seems not even reaching the brcmfmac probe, and SPIO isn't started in OPiZeroPlus, although it is on OPiPrime.

but other than they usually its pretty immediate to register
