apritzel, ssvb, there was some discussion a while back about trace integrity for SPI at higher speeds. I just did a loopback test with a 200mm+ wire at 100MHz and a 4K chunk of random data made it through just fine.
<willmore>
I need to write something up that does more transfers and checks the received data to see what the true bit error rate is. But, none in one 32Kbit sample is pretty good to start with.
<willmore>
Well laid out PCB traces should be better than a 200mm piece of wire hanging off of a GPIO port.

As a quick hack, I have a bash command line to keep looping the transfer command and checking the output. If it differs, it quite, if it's good, it increments a counter and goes on. Several K 4KB chunks in.
<willmore>
I pulled the jumper to make sure it fails when it should ;) It fails as expected.
<willmore>
I'll let it run overnight.

tkaiser: thanks. i got the mali450 image already, but it stays display-black and eth-offline after booting. not checked the issue with serial console though...
<tkaiser>
rellla: There was an issue with TX/RX delay IIRC (but I gave up long ago with Buddy and his BSP adventures). Adding an ethtool call to /etc/rc.local might 'fix' this (forcing 100 Mbits/sec).
<rellla>
tkaiser: let's see how far debian server image boots...

TheLinuxBug: No idea, I sent 'my' OPi PC2 to jemk months ago and usually connect a display to sunxi devices just to test some stuff (like DVI compatibility). lurchi__, in some respects, yes, that's true, but it's also more inductive and there are the two probes and the ground lines hanging off nearby pins. Also, don't forget about the silly GPIO header. That's not exactly a controlled impedence connector ;)

<buZz>
MoeIcenowy: hahaha
<willmore>
MoeIcenowy, well, Allwinner is 'available' source and some of it is 'open'. :) The community is a completely different animal--being fully proper open source.
<MoeIcenowy>
yes
<willmore>
Rpi is pretty much the same, or did they open up the VPU blob?
<MoeIcenowy>
they didn't at all
<MoeIcenowy>
you know, the rpi-open-firmware now is only able to make mmc and uart usable
<KotCzarny>
oh wow
<willmore>
I don't think they'll ever get the Broadcom (but maybe the Cypress) VPU boot code, but they may get an openly developed replacement for most of its functionality.
<KotCzarny>
do we need a soc vendor feature comparison table?
<KotCzarny>
;)
<buZz>
KotCzarny: yezzzz

mmc and uart only? LOL. Good luck with that.

<willmore>
Make sure you cover several vendors, not just allwinner vs rpi.
<KotCzarny>
will get my a** around it in the evening if no one does it earlier ;)
<MoeIcenowy>
but it seems that only Allwinner have different status between "vendor support" and "community support"
<KotCzarny>

<willmore>
MoeIcenowy, that's not uncommon.
<MoeIcenowy>
willmore: yes, but sunxi have the most shiny community ;-)

rellla: The 'funny' thing is that with NEO and NEO2 it makes absolutely no sense to use BSP kernel anyway. No display, no CSI, no need for BSP crap. And FriendlyELEC even got it, collected linux-sunxi patches and now provide a 4.10 package for H3 NEO
