<MoeIcenowy> for OPi PC2 there seems to be some problem in pinout...
<MoeIcenowy> the pin 37 cannot be PA20 (as PA20 is the red LED)
<MoeIcenowy> but it seems also not to be PD11 as schematics advertised
<MoeIcenowy> OH MY GOD IT'S REALLY PA20!!!!!!
<plaes> o_O
<plaes> and also red led?
<MoeIcenowy> YES!!!
<MoeIcenowy> I connected pin 37 with pin 35 (PA10)
<MoeIcenowy> and set PA10 to input status
<MoeIcenowy> when the brightness of LED is set to 1, PA10 is 1; when brightness is 0 PA10 is 0
<plaes> heh
<plaes> quality stuff ;)
apritzel has quit [Quit: Leaving.]

<KotCzarny> at least you can connect something to react on the red led activity, *wink*
<KotCzarny> or the other way, to let red led light up on pin activity without any cpu required!
<KotCzarny> or booted, that is.
Andy-D has joined #linux-sunxi
<MoeIcenowy> you make me laugh ;-)
<KotCzarny> :)
<KotCzarny> but what would happen if both red led source and pin output were enabled?
<wens> depends on how the red LED is wired?
<KotCzarny> would that loop fry something or it's safe? if not safe there needs to be a warning in the wiki
<wens> leds typically have a current limiting resistor in series
<wens> there's probably no way you can fry it, if using the same voltage level
<KotCzarny> if it's safe, then it's a feature as i've said above
florianH has joined #linux-sunxi
f0xx has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<MoeIcenowy> yes I think it's safe
<MoeIcenowy> except you feed it with a higher voltage at the pin
<MoeIcenowy> but if you do this, what will fry may be the SoC

<Net147> KotCzarny: SPI seems to be mentioned at http://wiki.friendlyarm.com/wiki/index.php/NanoPi_NEO2
<willmore> No SPI-flash, though.
<willmore> Maybe the Opi Z 2 will have one like the Z had. How much shorter is that ethernet jack? That could be a nice thing. But it clearly costs board space and requires another router cut on the PCB.
curious22 has joined #linux-sunxi
curious22 has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<KotCzarny> net147, yeah, i meant spi-flash
<KotCzarny> willmore, that lowprofile eth port is nice idea, but usb near by is full height so it's kinda wasted effort
<beeble> oliv3r: yes
Worf has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<willmore> KotCzarny, good point. Also, if it's an H5 board, I want 1GB, not 515MB. That's a deal breaker for me.
<KotCzarny> it could have it's uses. as a pocket heater for example
<willmore> It's another FriendlyArm board that I look at and say "I hope this is useful to someone, because I have no use for it."
<willmore> KotCzarny, no battery connector. :)
<jelle> the neo air looks fun, bluetooth / wifi
<jelle> willmore: I wish more board had battery connectors indeed
<willmore> jelle, yeah, agreed.
* jelle hopes to make a sunxi robot some time this year :-)
wens has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<willmore> The only board I have with one is the Pine-64 and last I head, it wasn't really functional, yet. Maybe after the Pinebook work gets folded back in.
* willmore hopes to make an esp8266 ws2812 light controller.
<KotCzarny> or someone could make slap-on dongle that has barrelplug/microusb on one side, liion controller on the other side and dcin on the third side
<jelle> willmore: should be doable, already made a word clock with it and soon hopefully a nice TL tube with leds
<willmore> KotCzarny, true.
<willmore> jelle, now that I solved my pilot error with my nodemcu board, I think things will progress a bit faster.
<willmore> How was I supposed to know the Vin pin wasn't in parallel with the USB power? You know, like every other board out there. Seems they felt like doing a double diode isolation and putting the raw USB voltage on another pin at the other end of the board and labeling it VU. Whatever that means...
* willmore wanders off to shake his fist at clouds.
<jelle> =)
<KotCzarny> watch out for thunders
<KotCzarny> otherwise, have fun
jeandet has joined #linux-sunxi
<willmore> We had rain and thunder last week and snow this week. Can't wait for next week...
<KotCzarny> thundersnow
<willmore> Yep, seen it.
<KotCzarny> would be fun if snow conducted electricity more easily
<willmore> jelle, I dug out the scope and the logic analyzer to figure out what was going on. It never occured to me to check the freaking power... *sigh*
<jelle> :(
<willmore> KotCzarny, it does if you convert it into a plasma.
<KotCzarny> now add some radioactive particles and make them react violently
<willmore> On the plus side, I now have the scope and the logic analyzer out and near where the Opi Z is so I can start messing with the SPI on there.
<willmore> Oh, and I found my SMD test clips.
<willmore> KotCzarny, you want fusion thunder?
<jelle> now you remind me if I should buy nice probes
<KotCzarny> :)
curious22 has joined #linux-sunxi
<willmore> I found out that the SOIC set I found in the trash at a hamfest is worth $100. The larger clips are worth half that alone.
<jelle> nice
<willmore> Oh, a hamfest is a swap market/rummage fest/rally sale for amateur radio gear.
<KotCzarny> someone decided electronics is not his/hers hobby probably
<willmore> KotCzarny, it started to rain and the outside vendors bailed. Many just leaving stuff were they put it and driving away. I sifted through a bunch of stuff. Went home with all kinds of stuff that day. I had been late to getting there--it was at the same time as a conference I was helping to run--and I didn't think I'd find anything because I was so late. :)
<KotCzarny> :)
<oliv3r> anybody ever noticed that our u-boot environment is not stored on a 'common eMMC erase blok boundary'?
<KotCzarny> oliv3r, how often do you write env?
<oliv3r> well it would be nice to do it atleast once no?
<willmore> Isn't it in its completely own block?
<oliv3r> it appears not so
<willmore> :(
<oliv3r> so we get a 'bad crc using default' now
<willmore> Then what's the point for these rediculously complex partitioning schemes I keep seeing uboot use?
<oliv3r> and save env concludes with 'failed'
<oliv3r> erm, the env is stored outside of the partition
<oliv3r> and eMMC has 4 hw based partition by default
<willmore> Which board, chip, etc.?
<oliv3r> OLinuXino A20 Lime2 with eMMC
JohnDoe_71Rus has quit [Quit: Miranda IM! Smaller, Faster, Easier. http://miranda-im.org]
<oliv3r> though not sure if it is related to that, or something different entirly
<oliv3r> in any case, currently, saveenv brakes eMMC access
<oliv3r> ssvb: ^
<KotCzarny> fun stuff
<KotCzarny> but it's emmc, shouldnt it handle such things internally?
<oliv3r> need to powercycle after trying saveenv
<KotCzarny> so it doesnt matter which order blocks are written?
<KotCzarny> maybe emmc is bad?
<KotCzarny> ie. badblock/stuck bits?
<oliv3r> depends, we currently are doing: MMC_CMD_SET_BLOCKLEN followed by MMC_CMD_WRITE_MULTIPLE_BLOCK
<oliv3r> and there it chokes
<oliv3r> maybe eMMC needs MMC_CMD_WRITE_SINGLE_BLOCK
<oliv3r> or something else
<oliv3r> KotCzarny: wouldn't we get an error from that?
<oliv3r> but i'll try a diff board
<oliv3r> though I seriously doubt it :)
<oliv3r> hmm maybe its not the eMMC that dies
<KotCzarny> you can also write it from linux and read/compare
<oliv3r> because reset (from u-boot console) works to load spl + u-boot
<oliv3r> yeah
<oliv3r> that was my intention
<oliv3r> to have a default env. for u-boot to use
<oliv3r> but trying saveenv killed things
<oliv3r> hmm, maybe reset works because the spl is run from RAM
<KotCzarny> tbh i never use setenv, i store config in boot.cmd
<oliv3r> well right now, we have the built in binary env, an error about crc failure on the env :)
<oliv3r> and then the boot.scr
<alexvf> jemk, rellla: does current libvdpau_sunxi support interlaced mpeg2 with separate encoded fields?
<oliv3r> i don't wanna change u-boot binary to change things such as bootdelay
<oliv3r> i want the bootdelay, USB boot etc disabled
<oliv3r> so if it's in the environemtn, by erasing the env, i get 'stock u-boot' behavior
<oliv3r> also, bootdelay cannot be changed from boot.cmd
<KotCzarny> true, but i think you can simply set it to 0 and just bang on kb ;)
<oliv3r> hmm, saveenv broke my partition table or something
<oliv3r> MMC: no card present
<oliv3r> ouch
<KotCzarny> chip died?
<oliv3r> but spl _+ u-boot is loaded :)
<oliv3r> so it loaded that from mmc
<oliv3r> yeah my u-boot partition is corrupt
<oliv3r> probably from saveenv
<oliv3r> haven't figured out how that happened yet
<oliv3r> maybe it was mmc erase
<oliv3r> i was playing with that as well
<KotCzarny> hmm, according to http://linux-sunxi.org/Bootable_SD_card env is stored at 544+128kB
<oliv3r> yeah
<oliv3r> mmc read 0x43000000 0x440 200
<oliv3r> which is block 1088
<oliv3r> which is hex address 0x440
<oliv3r> but
<oliv3r> Caution! Your devices Erase group is 0x400
<oliv3r> The erase range would be change to 0x400~0x7ff
<oliv3r> and 0x400 is the end of u-boot :)
<oliv3r> (i just broke it
<oliv3r> again, but i'll verify in a min
<KotCzarny> maybe you broke it by playing with erase, and not by just issuing saveenv
<oliv3r> i didn't touch erase at first :p
<oliv3r> anyhow
<oliv3r> it was erase which made me find out that our env may not be at the correct offset

<KotCzarny> does anyone use bigger uboot binary than 480kB ?
<oliv3r> doubt it
jeandet has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<oliv3r> but i guess the env should move up to the next boundry
<KotCzarny> nah, if you limit uboot space to 480kB env will start at 512
jeandet has joined #linux-sunxi
<oliv3r> well right now i'm erasing the end of u-boot :)
<KotCzarny> then your uboot has to be bigger than 480?
<oliv3r> maybe it doesn't even matter, maybe the eMMC/u-boot doesn't issue an erase call at all, or does it properly underwater
<KotCzarny> otherwise it wouldn't cross 512
<oliv3r> 543846 mrt 14 13:51 u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin
<KotCzarny> hehe
<oliv3r> i think the mmc has really big erase blocks
<KotCzarny> make it smaller tha 480 and retest saveenv
<oliv3r> lol
<oliv3r> i can't just make it smaller!
<oliv3r> but for the test, i can strip out some non-essentials
curious22 has joined #linux-sunxi
curious22_ has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<oliv3r> it won't shrink :(
<oliv3r> so we have 2 eraseblocks it seems, 0x000 - 0x3ff; 0x400 - 0x7ff
<oliv3r> and u-boot goes from something like 0x..8 something to 0x43f (or close to it)
<oliv3r> and the partition table starts at 0x800
<oliv3r> we moving the env doesn't make sense
<oliv3r> so why does saveenv not work/brake mmc access
<oliv3r> break*
<oliv3r> as a work-around of course, just read/write the env from linux
<oliv3r> makes testing/setting up my env annoyingly tedous :(
<oliv3r> well i can set it up on mmc first though
<willmore> I'm pretty sure you're going to cause yourself pain if a partition spans erase blocks.

<willmore> oliv3r, it's probably baked into uboot somehow and then also in the DT.
<willmore> If you're lucky, uboot gets it from the DT.
<oliv3r> willmore: the mbr dos partition table is a legacy thing
<oliv3r> software other then linux/u-boot depend on its location
<oliv3r> while sure it is just an agreed uppon address
<oliv3r> i doubt we can easily change it
<oliv3r> well usefully
