<wens> mripard: if you really want to be strict about it, you can probably check the resulting dotclock doesn't make the refresh rate deviate too much
<wens> or maybe a percentage of the dotclock as a margin
<wens> i did a quick look of other drm drivers, and none seem to be doing any checks like this
<wens> i think one driver checked if the resulting rounded refresh rate didn't match, it would reject the mode, but that was it

<tkaiser> KotCzarny: there are dedicated engines for 'moving data around'. But me scares now is that it seems 'WAN' and 'LAN' are both connected to the same 88E6141 IC
<KotCzarny> o.o
<KotCzarny> wan seems to be connected to soc
<tkaiser> KotCzarny: Please, this is a generic picture showing what's possible with this switch IC. The board has 3 GbE interfaces and it's mentioned on Kickstarter: 'Topaz switch with 3xGB ethernet'
<KotCzarny> 2x GbE Ethernet LAN
<KotCzarny> 1x Ethernet WAN
<KotCzarny> specifically excluded
<tkaiser> C'mon...
<KotCzarny> guessing wont get much, i hope they will answer how's it wired

<plaes> Net147: yeah
<Net147> plaes: cool
<plaes> though, I have yet to disable LVDS in u-boot
<apritzel> tkaiser: best thing: seems like there is a dev board .dts in the kernel already, with USB3, PCIe and SATA enabled
<Net147> plaes: I found after I disabled video in U-Boot I was missing pin mux and backlight enable
<tkaiser> apritzel: When I tested with ARMADA 38x a while ago at least mainline kernel was way slower than the old 3.10 one (and still no UASP). But I didn't look into details that much. Anyway for that price it gets backed :)
<KotCzarny> yeah, price is nice indeed
<Net147> mripard: did you have a chance to take a second look at the drm_panel_enable patch to take the panel delays into account?
<apritzel> tkaiser: please keep some early bird offers to others as well ;-)
<KotCzarny> he wont buy them if they really put all 3 ports onto the switch
<KotCzarny> ;)

<tkaiser> KotCzarny: If they do I will simply attach a NanoPi NEO to the USB 2.0 port using USB Ethernet gadget mode and this will be the WAN interface.

<KotCzarny> hehe

<CampGareth> Hmm, guessing that trying to power it off that 4 pin power connector will cause the magic smoke to escape. Shame, that'd be nice.
<KotCzarny> keep in mind you will require dual voltage power source
<KotCzarny> though it could be powered off the espresso directly, ho hum
<tkaiser> KotCzarny: 12V DC-IN, but we're getting slightly off-topic :\

<Net147> mripard: there is something strange with the PWM driver. I am controlling using PWM backlight and if I set brightness to 0, sometimes the backlight doesn't turn off.
<wens> Net147: the backlight might also have a gpio control or regulator, which actually provides the power
<wens> if that isn't included, then the pwm output is 0, but power is still going to the backlight LEDs
<Net147> wens: sometimes it works though, sometimes it doesn't
<Net147> wens: when it doesn't work, the backlight brightness appears to be unchanged

<jonkerj> maybe better to not use gmail directly
<jonkerj> I've setup mutt to read gmail's imap interface and send using gmail's smtps
<jonkerj> kernel lists and people do not like html and top quoting, etc
<Net147> I am thinking easiest way would be to upload the message in mbox format to IMAP and then reply to it
<Net147> some mailing lists have a feature where you can send a copy of the message to your client with original headers
<jonkerj> I'd copy/paste the message in mutt and put in a in-reply-to header
<jonkerj> but if you can do that, that's easy

<willmore> tkaiser, WRT that armada board kickstarter. I think that other poster who was talking about the mini-pci-e slot though that it might be a USB only slot. Plenty of laptops have those and label them "WAN/WWAN".
<KotCzarny> that would suck.
<KotCzarny> doubly suck
<willmore> If you're putting a BT or Wifi adapter in it, it's fine.
<willmore> It's just a more rugged and reliable connector for an internal USB device.
<KotCzarny> i would like to be able to connect 2 drives at least, system one (ssd) and data storage (huge hdd)
<willmore> It's a bit annoying to think you have a full up PCI-E slot only to find out that it's USB only, though. :(
<KotCzarny> if its usb only, meh.
<willmore> A port multiplier on the SATA or a few USB<>SATA dongles on the USB3.
<willmore> I'm hesitant to use storage attached via USB as I don't consider the connectors all that reliable for static use.
<KotCzarny> i dislike usb3 because of interferences (and generally not treating usb as stable for data)
<willmore> "interferences"?
<willmore> I agree with the not stable for data. The connector just isn't designed for a 'plug and forget' application like storage.
<willmore> Heck, SATA connectors are a bit didgey without latches.
<orly_owl> also the power sata ones like to explode
<willmore> ??
<orly_owl> you heard
<orly_owl> seen a few 12v+5v ones burnt
<KotCzarny> USB 3.0 has a 5Gbps signaling rate. The USB 3.0 specification requires USB 3.0 data to be scrambled and it requires spread-spectrum. The noise from USB 3.0 data spectrum can be high (in the 2.4-2.5GHz range).
<KotCzarny> orly_owl: never seen sata power 'sploded
<willmore> KotCzarny, ahh, you mean it can generate RF interference. Gotcha.
<willmore> Guess that's why the data lines are supposed to be twisted and impedence controlled.
