<tkaiser> jmcneill: In case your BPi-M3 comes with Micro USB for DC-IN you need a solder iron first. Especially if you improve heat dissipation.
<tkaiser> jmcneill: Allwinner's BSP limits maximum clock speed to 1.8 GHz through THS / cooler_table settings. I unlocked 2.1GHz last year and while this works single-threaded throttling prevents reaching these clockspeeds with any heavy multi-threaded workloads.
<tkaiser> jmcneill: And if you improve heat dissipation then be prepared that the board simply powers off (current limitation, undervoltage -- the usual problems with Micro USB): http://linux-sunxi.org/Banana_Pi_M3#Sudden_shut_offs_.2F_maximum_consumption_.2F_cooling_vs._consumption
ganbold has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<tkaiser> jmcneill: And please keep in mind that this was last year when I was a bit clueless regarding real workloads. I generated load with toys like sysbench or stress. With cpuburn-a7 be prepared that M3 powers off immediately (even if the code might only detect the first cluster and runs on just 4 cores) :)

<jonkerj> without the copy/paste errors in i2c2
<jonkerj> hmm, maybe the subject needed to have v4 in it, instead of v3 again. Hopefully that's not an issue
<wens> depends on how people organize things

<apritzel> jmcneill: I was working on setting up an interrupt handler in ATF to handle temperature events
<apritzel> jmcneill: the idea is to program an alarm temperature and let ATF decide what to do (clocking down, halting cores, emergency shutdown)
<apritzel> jmcneill: would that cover your concerns about over-heating?
<jonkerj> wens: I have a hunch you/maxime is not going to fully agree with my proposal, so I wait his/your comments before spamming the lists again, consolidating all feedback
<jmcneill> apritzel: that would be great but we only run ATF on A64 right now
<jonkerj> wens: suggestion: pinmux (_rts_cts_pins) in DTSI, association in the board files?
<jmcneill> apritzel: also I still need to test your branch, we do things right now like talk to pmic via RSB directly

<y0x79> hey there, i have a question concerning booting allwinners from SD card. I have two tablets here with android and allwinner a33. If i boot them from sd card, the nand device seems to be ignored. there is no /dev/nandX or /dev/block/nandX. Is booting from sd and accessing the nand incompatible? Do I have to set certain boot flags to enable access to the nand from sd card?

<KotCzarny> but eq-q8-a33 page says there are no uart pads
gzamboni has joined #linux-sunxi
<KotCzarny> There are no UART pads available on this device. Instead, UART0 is multiplexed with the microSD adapter. Please refer to the MicroSD Breakout adapter for more information
<Putti> KotCzarny, yeah, I tried to test the micro sd pins too, but none of them gave 3.3v
<KotCzarny> i guess they are set in uboot
<KotCzarny> ie. my guess is that you would have to modify nand uboot config
<KotCzarny> or boot via usb-fel
<Putti> Maybe, I gotta try that. I will wait for my micro sd card breakout board to arrive so it is easier to test

<willmore> I have one of my Opi1 boards on a bench power supply so I can monitor the current it's using. Running minerd in benchmark mode on four cores, it pulls .760A or about. Running cpuburn, it uses 1.1A.
<willmore> That's at the max 1.2GHz speed. minerd can keep at full speed with the cooling I have on it now, but cpuburn can't. cpuburn drops to 1008MHz.
apritzel has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<KotCzarny> that just means its using less power == not hitting thermal throttling
<willmore> Idle current is around .260A.
<willmore> KotCzarny, in which scenario?
<KotCzarny> minerd vs cpuburn
<willmore> minerd isn't hitting thermal limits, but cpuburn clearly is.
<willmore> At 1008MHz on cpuburn, current drops to .780A
<willmore> at 1.2GHz it was at 1.1A.
<KotCzarny> you should monitor temp too
<willmore> Looks like .780A at 5V is the thermal limit of what I have on here right now.
<willmore> I am.
<willmore> Temps for cpuburn spiked and then came back down to 83C at 1008MHz. Minerd is at 67C.
<willmore> minerd--67C--.760A--1.2GHz
<willmore> cpuburn--83C--0.780A--1008MHz
<willmore> cpuburn--**C--1.1A--1.2GHz
<willmore> Camera seems to add 20-50mA.
<willmore> No HDMI output. Not sure why. I think there should be, but nothing is coming up on the monitor.
<willmore> Not sure if I did something before to disable that. I don't remember.
<KotCzarny> check if interrupt is increasing
<KotCzarny> also, compile kernel with -Os (or -O2) one of them make hdmi to not work
<KotCzarny> also, if you are using hdmi-dvi adapter you have to disable hdcp
<KotCzarny> and might be unsupported resolution
