<cognos> Hi guys, I continue to work with my A20 trying to get everything working, however I'm struggling with the wireless adaptors. I tried 3 different chips (2 ralink and 1 realtek) and with both the bandwith jumps from "full" speed to just a few Kbps, of course without moving the box or the router. Other devices in the same wireless work full speed without any issue. Any know issue that may be affecting?

<cognos> not an option, the OS is kind of frozen in this embedded device. I can change the kernel and the modules, but I don't want to risk changing the distro since there's some ad-hoc software running there.
<tkaiser> imcsk8: CT+ uses H8 which is like A83T but with different chip ID. So you're out of luck :)
<cognos> for you out there the wireless work fine?
<imcsk8> tkaiser: but how come the linaro boots ok?
<KotCzarny> cognos: yeah, my bpi-m1 works fine
<KotCzarny> Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:5370 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT5370 Wireless Adapter
<KotCzarny> no dropouts, bw is ok
<imcsk8> and it's kernel 3.4.39

<cognos> and it is jumping from 60K/s to 3M/s
<tkaiser> imcsk8: check mainline kernel efforts for A83T to get an idea what's missing if you want a kernel that does not suck
<cognos> no sustained download speed
<KotCzarny> try disabling power management maybe?
<cognos> option to module?
<KotCzarny> though as i look now i dont have anything specific in modprobe.d
<cognos> did you install any specific firmware maybe?
<KotCzarny> try playing with options on your router
<cognos> I don't think it's router related since the other devices that connect to the wireless work fine under the same test
<KotCzarny> i had troubles with usb wifi dongles when signal was weak/much interference etc

<tkaiser> cognos: WiFi uses a shared media, the 2.4Ghz band is unusable in areas where people live since years. You can't diagnose whether the cheap crap bought on Ali works or not without driving into a shielded lab or in the mountains. And people think about software...

<KotCzarny> usb3 is usually reponsible in the same machine
<KotCzarny> and most other devices use channel 1
<tkaiser> USB3 nearby can be a killer too. At a customer they could choose to either trash their VoIP phones or the newly aquired disks.
<KotCzarny> yeah, i use wifi only as a secondary network source. if i can i prefer wires

<cognos> yes, I have the kernel sources there
<cognos> and patched for the hdmi
<cognos> for the CEC issue I had with the samsung tv I mean
<KotCzarny> well, if you have free time and want to check if its the driver issue, go for it
<cognos> how can I send the usb interrupts to the other kernel? That is beyond my knowledge
<cognos> *core
<KotCzarny> thats for my h3 based board (4 cores) but you should be able to figure it out

<cognos> Thanks for your help guys!

<apritzel> aitap: did you also change the DTs?
<aitap> apritzel, oh, right, the DTS is patched, but neither rebuilt nor copied to the SD card; sorry
<apritzel> if you are at a prompt, you can check either in /proc/device-tree or in /sys/firmware/devicetree/base
<apritzel> "have you checked the DT" is the ARM version of: "have you tried turning it off and on again" ;-)
<aitap> Yay, eth0 appeared! Now I'm going to have an *interactive* shell instead of putting scripts into /myinit.

<tkaiser> I'm too dumb to understand C.H.I.P's schematic. Is it possible there to feed AXP208 from USB OTG and DC-IN separately (in addition to battery)?
<tkaiser> s/AXP208/AXP209/
<jonkerj> I think I could deduce that from a schematic, do you have a URL for me?
<tkaiser> jonkerj: But I have to admit that I did not have a look at a picture of the device. It's powered through Micro USB as I understand but whether there are alternative power sources (GPIO?) I haven't looked yet.
<jonkerj> why would you want to dual-feed?
<jonkerj> ie, what problem are you trying to solve?
<tkaiser> dual port solar panel on DC-IN, on OTG a powerbank connected to the 2nd 5V port of the solar panel. If DC-IN and OTG are independent then AXP209 gets the 'big picture'

<jonkerj> trouble is to find the path of the dc in terminal in an unseen schematic :-)
<jonkerj> OTG is the only usb mini/micro socket on that board, right?
<tkaiser> jonkerj: I can only tell by pictures that there is a Micro USB socket. What this is (DC-IN only like on Pine64 or OTG) I don't know.
<jonkerj> the OTG is connected to "USBVBUS", which seems the main power feed to me
<tkaiser> jonkerj: When I did some tests 2 months ago I had to realize that we have some strange beasts in our sunxi zoo. PcDuino3 Nano for example has two Micro USB sockets. One labeled DC-IN and the other OTG. OTG is logical USB but if you connect a power source there this is routed to DC-IN and not to AXP209's OTG port.
BW^- has joined #linux-sunxi
<BW^-> hey :)
<BW^-> what's the "Reduced Serial bus" doing? how many pins is it, does it have pins on the Pine64.org ? can't see
<tkaiser> jonkerj: That's why im asking :)
<BW^-> also how many mhz could I bit-bang data on the A64 via GPIO?
<jonkerj> well, the otg power (usbvbus) is sort of decoupled from 'vcc-5v'
<jonkerj> there is a regulator between them, (u15), it's job is to switch usbvbus between sink/source for device/source
<tkaiser> jonkerj: But vcc-5v is what is _provided_ on the GPIO pins isn't it?
<jonkerj> yes
<jonkerj> I would assume it is _the_ main power bus for 5v consumers
<tkaiser> jonkerj: I'm still searching for different ways to provide power to AXP209
<BW^-> anyone?
<tkaiser> jonkerj: Or let's keep it simple. I order such a thing and try everything out. I order two to be able to fry one :)
<jonkerj> as long as OTG is in device mode, U15 is not enabled and you can use USBVBUS to power the axp
<jonkerj> maybe also when in host mode, but I don't know the specs/function of u15
<jonkerj> does the board have a DC in jack, like the orange pi's do?
<jemk> tkaiser: vbus of the otg connector is connected to vbus input of axp, chg-in pin on the headers is connected to acin of the axp, so two inputs possible
<jonkerj> ^^
<tkaiser> jemk: Thx, that's great.
<tkaiser> So C.H.I.P is the data logger of choice :)
<jemk> the vcc-5v are generated from a step-up converter, so you'll have 5v with lower input too
<jonkerj> seems to me that chg-in is exposed on the LCD connector
<jonkerj> (ctrl-f in acrobat)
<tkaiser> jemk: Good to know. In my case a mSATA enclosure will be connected that works surprisingly even when fed with just 4V (maybe even only 3.3V)
<jonkerj> gotta go

<tkaiser> KotCzarny: Solder pads
<KotCzarny> which ones? acin ot bat?
<KotCzarny> i mean, there is bat label near acin too
<KotCzarny> i think the one with white circle is for realtime clock backup battery
<KotCzarny> that's why im confused
<tkaiser> KotCzarny: According to google (bat bat1 site:lemaker.org) it's BAT and not BAT1

<KotCzarny> BAT for external battery, BAT1 for RTC battery
<KotCzarny> k. thx
<tkaiser> KotCzarny: Please update table of Allwinner boards with battery information (RTC and battery separated) ;)
<KotCzarny> i will update bpi-m1 page first
<KotCzarny> (so i wont forget again)
<mripard> tkaiser: yes (for the DC-IN question)
<tkaiser> mripard: Thanks. I'm searching through the store and don't find a battery option (is none?)
<tkaiser> mripard: Found it
<tkaiser> 'any single cell (1S) 3.7V Lithium Polymer (LiPo) battery with a 2-pin JST-PH 2.0mm end can be connected to the JST-PH socket'. Also great
