<kdubious> for example: pmu_irq_id = 32
<kdubious> in teh wiki: pmu_irq_id: interrupt to use; 0 = NMI; 1 - 15 = interrupt 1 to 15

<kdubious> Can anyone translate: "pmu_irq_id = 32" from FEX to DTS for me?

<rahlquist__> tkaiser you around and up to answering a mildly off topic question
hansg has joined #linux-sunxi
<KotCzarny> ask him anyway, he is stalking this channel all the time
tomboy64 has joined #linux-sunxi
<rahlquist__> thanks KotCzarny, anyone else is free to answer too I just know tkaiser has a good knowledgeset too
<tkaiser> rahlquist__: Have been in a call until now (strange PDF workflow stuff)
<rahlquist__> tkoskine (or anyone) if you had $80 to spend on a device similar to Pi/Orange/Pine etc, small SOC with some GPIO, hdmi out and capable fo running linux well with some flexability what would you get?
<rahlquist__> oops meant that to be at tkaiser lol
<KotCzarny> 2gb one
<KotCzarny> if you want desktop-like
<rahlquist__> KotCzarny 2gb which?
<KotCzarny> describe your use case
<tkaiser> Use case please. Not possible to answer this question otherwise
<rahlquist__> Tinker toy mostly KotCzarny would like to try using as lightwheight desktop with minimal storage need (linux server readily avalible for storage) also playing with gpio and i2c senssors while learning about them, but would like a bit more horsepower than a pi but dont want to be on something so obscure with immature commuinity like Pine
<KotCzarny> some odroid maybe
<KotCzarny> opipc is nice overall and could be enough
<KotCzarny> and for basic things even banana pi m1 would be fine
<KotCzarny> i use opipc as a desktop replacement (firefox) and it's a bit painful
<rahlquist__> painful would be good to avoid lol, if I want painful I will pull my pine64 back out fo the drawer
<KotCzarny> that's why i suggested 2gb minimal (if you want firefoxish tasks)

<tkaiser> My limited experience with Linux desktop useage is: ensure high random I/O performance (eMMC preferred), as much RAM as possible and HW accelerated GUI stuff ready. But no idea about since my use cases are mostly headless stuff. But ODROID-C2 with 16GB eMMC should be ok
<KotCzarny> opi+2 has 2gb ram and 16gb emmc too, but i guess odroid would have better build/support
simosx has quit [Quit: Leaving]
tomboy64 has joined #linux-sunxi
<KotCzarny> there is a chance a83t would finally get somu sunxi support
<KotCzarny> which would mean octacore fun
<rahlquist__> thanks for the input, I am a programmer by trade and work in an extremely frustrating environment, I got a pi a few years back as a way to have something simple to work with/on that just flat out works, now just looking for something a bit more powerful but dont need high frustration level sounds like odroid c2 may be worth a try
<tkaiser> KotCzarny: the more cores the better server tasks can be distributed accross different CPU cores. Desktop useage is somewhat different
<KotCzarny> i made me intelligent audio player from bpi-m1 and it works nicely (now it also has a role in my distcc minifarm)
<KotCzarny> tkaiser: yeah, but a83t is also clocked quite high
<tkaiser> rahlquist__: At least ODROID community is large and support good. Another interesting piece of hardware would be the soon to have MiQi board (Cortex-A17). Pretty fast but expect community/support in the same league as Pine
<rahlquist__> the one reviewed on cnxsfot a couple days ago?
<tkaiser> Yes
<tkaiser> But as you already noticed: hardware without software == paperweight
<rahlquist__> yeah
<rahlquist__> the thing that burns me on the pine so bad is how much they are ignoring the whole thing
SadSmile has joined #linux-sunxi
<rahlquist__> so I offered to sell mine to a friend who is still waiting on his to ship lol
<tkaiser> rahlquist__: I really don
<tkaiser> 't understand why they fail so horribly improving documentation?
<KotCzarny> tkaiser: i fail at documentation too, and probably they are tight on budget
<rahlquist__> me either even when people are providing them with good information thye could just use
<KotCzarny> to hire anyone
<wens> emmc performance varies a lot
vpeter has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<tkaiser> Does it really hurt to add the note "Disconnect Ethernet on 1st boot" to the download section in their Wiki since otherwise no Android/RemixOS image will ever be able to boot?
<wens> say samsung low end emmc only has 10- MB/s write performance
<tkaiser> wens: True. But the eMMC hardkernel uses is pretty fast. The 8GB not that much but with larger capacities it gets pretty fast, especially random I/O also
<tkaiser> Sequential read/write ~120MB/s and random writes magnitudes faster compared to the fastest SD cards I tested: http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/849-armbian-for-odroid-c1-and-c2/?p=6784
<wens> i remember the odroid emmc modules are pricy too
<tkaiser> wens: They are. And shipping is not fun either ;)

<willmore> rahlquist__, I second the suggestion of the Odroid-C2 or even the XU4 if that doesnt' go over your price where you live.
<rahlquist__> hmmm its a bit more pricey may be more than I needf
Nacho_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<rahlquist__> in the case of the odroid can one start out using just microsd and if application warrants purchase emmc module down the road and dd the current microsd image to it?
<willmore> Then the C2 should be fine.
<willmore> Yes.
<willmore> you can even have eMMC and uSD cards in at the same time and access them separately--and concurrently.
<rahlquist__> hmm the emmc prices are really not bad
<tkaiser> willmore: Using eMMC & SD card at the same time is also possible with sunxi boards. But in case you want to use eMMC for rootfs or user homes (preferred if eMMC shows high random I/O performance) then it gets tricky since board wants to boot from SD card (so u-boot on SD card necessary and then accessing mmcblk1 afterwards)
<willmore> tkaiser, understood.
<tkaiser> rahlquist__: In case you're in Europe maybe pollin.de ships to your country? But that's only an option if you want the board only since they charge a lot more for the eMMC modules
<rahlquist__> tkaiser in usa
<willmore> rahlquist__, ameridroid
<rahlquist__> ty
<rahlquist__> wow xu4 $30 cheaper than amazon
<rahlquist__> nice
<willmore> ameridroid is an authorized reseller and some very nice people. I've ordered from them twice and they have been wonderful both times. The first time I got a hand written thank you note.

<willmore> Oh, and the new batch of C2 should hit today if everything went right at the factory!
<willmore> rahlquist__, if you need help, come over to #odroid.
<rahlquist__> will do if I grab one, still debating if I should spend the money on one or not
<rahlquist__> but yeah will stop pulling this chan offtopic ;)
<willmore> This is a very good channel and this isn't that off topic. :) But, yeah, come over to #odroid if you want more info/support.
