<leviathancn2>
alexvf: on page 404
<leviathancn2>
(funny ^^')
<leviathancn2>
on this page you have a nice graphics
<leviathancn2>
which shows how the graphics gets out through the graphics interface
<leviathancn2>
you write graphics frames out, no sprites
<ssvb>
leviathancn2: the information about the dram controller is indeed kind of like 404 stuff there ;-)
<alexvf>
hehe
<ssvb>
leviathancn2: the graphics interface still reads the pixel data from the dram and is unable to bypass the dram controller
<alexvf>
yep, that graphic only shows DEBE and DEFE
<alexvf>
but nothing about sprites
<alexvf>
there is another grapchic that suggests that sprites go though a different hardware path
<alexvf>
but, as ssvb said, nothing about host port settings
<alexvf>
ssvb, leviathancn2: i was playing around with undocumented host ports in u-boot but none made any difference
<alexvf>
btw i discovered that, in sun7i, host port number 6 is network related, because disabling it left me without it
<alexvf>
with host port 24 disabled, which in a10 is DRAM_HOST_USB, i couldn't get any video using vdpau, so it may not be related to USB at all in a20
<alexvf>
basically, what i did was disable host port access, one by one
<alexvf>
to see if anyone disabled sprite functionality
<alexvf>
i did it for the unknown host ports, and also for some others
<alexvf>
since the documentation i have is a10 related, it could be that it is actualy different for a20

hey everyone, has there be a successful build of the mali r5p0 drivers? I've been working toward it but the drm module wants drm_sman support witch i cannot find in my kernel tree.

<TheLinuxBug>
juser123: yeah still debian still poking at it
<TheLinuxBug>
not sure what causes that its weird
<TheLinuxBug>
seems to happen when I tax the CPU
<juser123>
wonder if it might be related to kernel not yielding to the driver in a timely manner. are you running a real time kernel? what's the scheduler and your HZ setting in the kernel? grapsing at straws...
<TheLinuxBug>
well I am not sure happy with this particular image
<TheLinuxBug>
I may try something else here like you suggested arch
<TheLinuxBug>
might have something to do with this kernel
<juser123>
yeah, that image is not playing well for sure
<juser123>
for sure.. my guess as well
<TheLinuxBug>
have one more test I want to do before scrapping and starting over
<TheLinuxBug>
but I think thats what I am gonna end up doing
<juser123>
curious as to how it goes for you
<juser123>
it'd be nice if something definitive makes itself known so you don't have to scrap the image
<TheLinuxBug>
yeah well I think one issue I am gonna have any ways is this kernel likely doesn't have vdpau and cedarx support like I want
<TheLinuxBug>
I really want to use one of rm's kernels fro the A20
<TheLinuxBug>
but somethings off driver wise for it to be compatable with BPi correctly
<TheLinuxBug>
I think its the fact it uses a different USB controller or something like that
<juser123>
might be down to the .fex file for the uboot setup. maybe something there is outta spec
<TheLinuxBug>
cause really I had a nice Debian Server dist I had built up my self that I got booting with a BPi kernel but the BPi provided kernel is crap and doesn't provide a bunch of stuff
<juser123>
for sure
<juser123>
that was one reason I rebuilt one myself. needed docker support in the kernel which was apsent
<juser123>
absent
<TheLinuxBug>
yeah to get it working I originally took uImage and script.bin from bananaian
<TheLinuxBug>
and had it running
<TheLinuxBug>
but it just wasn't doing what I wanted
<TheLinuxBug>
missing so much from the kernel made me want to strangle the person who compiled the kernel for not adding the appropriate stuff :x
<TheLinuxBug>
maybe I will just break down and compile my own
<juser123>
huh... that makes sense. the sunxi github has a the BSP files for the BPi. perhaps use that one
<juser123>
that's what I ended up doing.. and promptly broke the mali driver.. :(
<juser123>
pushing for the latest rev and shot myself in the foot
<juser123>
if you've got a ubuntu 14.x running somewhere the tool chain and build envinrment are easy to setup. native on the BPi will take a long time to build a new kernel
<juser123>
i used both a virtualbox ubuntu and native build. much much fast on the virtualbox
<TheLinuxBug>
yeah
<TheLinuxBug>
I am sure
<TheLinuxBug>
I compiled xbmc on the A10 and it took like 4 hours
<TheLinuxBug>
lol
<juser123>
i can imagine. yikes
<TheLinuxBug>
Will say one other thing, whoever produced the original BPi Sdcard images should be shot
<juser123>
A10 is a single core right?
<TheLinuxBug>
they included that miracast crap on the image and fireairreciver
<TheLinuxBug>
and they run in the background and use 100% of a core 24/7
<TheLinuxBug>
unless you kill them off
kivutar has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
<juser123>
holy smokes, that's not cool at all
<TheLinuxBug>
makes the damn unit useless
<TheLinuxBug>
and to make it worse
<TheLinuxBug>
you can't even uninstall the apps
<TheLinuxBug>
cause they built them into the os
<juser123>
wonderful
<TheLinuxBug>
I about threw the BPi out the window cause I couldn't open a single app without it killing the app or getting that annoying "App if not responding, wait or close" dialog
<TheLinuxBug>
finally installed terminal and killed it off and it was like a new machine
<juser123>
ahh.. I've been using the lemaker.org linked images.. didn't see that one and have been trying to stay away from the android builds. mostly because i'm not sure what I'm doing on that platform.
<TheLinuxBug>
well
<TheLinuxBug>
Android is the only reliable way without massive building and tweaking to make use of the full GPU and play back 1080p vid
<juser123>
indeed. that seems to be the facts
<TheLinuxBug>
BubbleUpnp +mx player + neon.1.7.32.zip
<TheLinuxBug>
runs ok if you didn't have a shit version of android where some installed shit apps you can't remove
<TheLinuxBug>
lol
<TheLinuxBug>
so yeah
<TheLinuxBug>
my next step was to get a debian image setup
<TheLinuxBug>
that had cedarx+vdpau
<TheLinuxBug>
and get at least smplayer working at high def
<TheLinuxBug>
and then get xbmc working
<TheLinuxBug>
I will say this
<TheLinuxBug>
I had a version I compiled of xbmc on A10
<TheLinuxBug>
running on BPi
<juser123>
yeah. tired of google hooking into everything in android. i have a android tablet and it's way to invasive without a cleaned rooted image.. which i don't fully trust
<TheLinuxBug>
it ran pretty good
<TheLinuxBug>
however
<TheLinuxBug>
couldn't handle 1080p
<TheLinuxBug>
not sure why
<TheLinuxBug>
Android does it just fine, runs great
<TheLinuxBug>
can't replicate in Debian yet
<juser123>
yeah. linux seems to only be getting one of the gpu cores onlune
<juser123>
which would limit the 1080p performace for sure
<TheLinuxBug>
yeah gonna play around with the A20 images and see if I can manipulate them to work on BPi with the correct drivers
<TheLinuxBug>
in a perfect workd
<juser123>
that's basically what eldjani did on the arch build. but he didn't outline the build steps fully and used old drivers
