mripard_: would it make sense to add CONFIG_FHANDLE and CONFIG_CGROUPS to sunxi_defconfig?
<plaes>
these are now needed by most distributions with systemd (even Debian) :(
<mripard_>
multi_v7 is more likely to be used by distributions
<mripard_>
but yeah, that would make sense
premoboss has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<NiteHawk>
gentoo (udev) requires CONFIG_FHANDLE and CONFIG_NET, but can do without CONFIG_CGROUPS
<plaes>
yeah, CGROUPS is required by systemd
<plaes>
otherwise it doesn't boot
<plaes>
well, it boots but it hangs during userspace initialization
<plaes>

<rellla>
NiteHawk, plaes, sry. saw you talked about mainline ...
<NiteHawk>
rellla: yes, specifically sunxi_defconfig for ML
<rellla>
NiteHawk: ok. thanks for your contributions to the wiki, but i'd suggest to drop the neon and trustzone pages.
<rellla>
link it instead of kind of duplication.
<NiteHawk>
how? redirect to external page from ARM or wikipedia?
<rellla>
external link?
<NiteHawk>
would have to go (and be maintained) onto multiple pages in some (most?) cases
<NiteHawk>
i've also considered creating some sort of short glossary page on the wiki and to link there (instead of creating these short 'stub' pages)
iamfrankenstein has joined #linux-sunxi
<rellla>
NiteHawk: don't know, what's the best way, but duplicating pages isn't :p
<rellla>
we had that situation with some user a time ago, that copied many wikipedia entries into the wiki...
<rellla>
we should keep it sunxi specific
<NiteHawk>
i've tried to limit copying to a minimum. but i understand the point about focusing on sunxi, that's a valid argument
<rellla>
let's wait until libv comes up with his opinion about this :)
<NiteHawk>
i've specifically created these entries as i found them to be useful / of interest (to me) and they were already linked in some cases (-> "wanted" pages)
gianMOD has joined #linux-sunxi
<NiteHawk>
but in hindsight it may not be the most useful approach. i'm open to other opinions / suggestions
<wens>
mripard_: not fastboot, fel boot0 + u-boot + kernel
<wens>
mripard_: though u-boot mainline works with sd now
<plaes>
hum.. it seems that i2c driver doesn't properly remove the interrupt that's set from devicetree
<NiteHawk>
rellla: one alternative approach i could think of: reduce these wiki entries to a simple collections of links, or even a single 'forward' reference (example: http://linux-sunxi.org/User_talk:NiteHawk/NEON). That way the page can still be referenced from within the wiki, but won't duplicate 'external' information
<NiteHawk>
libv: i'll rework those pages and replace them with 'proxies' then. what do you think of adding them to an extra category? ("external documentation"?)
Froolad has joined #linux-sunxi
<libv>
NiteHawk: just link from the page that needs to link
<libv>
categories is for categorizing pages.
<libv>
not categorizing links
Froolap has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<NiteHawk>
ah, okay - so you vote for actually removing them entirely. might lead to multiple links (additional maintenance overhead), but should be okay
<libv>
what maintenance overhead?
<libv>
wikipedia pages do not tend move much
<NiteHawk>
let's say an arm infocenter link? admittedly i have no idea how much they tend to shuffle those around
<RSpliet>
as far as I know they don't
<RSpliet>
although they sometimes deprecate sections in favour of updated documents
<RSpliet>
so: rarely
<Dodger78>
has any1 a link to a usable cubieboard 4 distro ?

do you have a serial cable / console for u-boot? the diagnostic messages on startup and/or the "usb" command should tell you more
<jlj>
sorry no, that's why I wanted otg uboot support :)
<jlj>
is there any settings that must be in place for otg to be activated?
<NiteHawk>
oh, hold on - otg might in fact be a different matter. what device is that, a tablet?
<jlj>
well kinda, it's a gooseberryboard.. which is a tablet without the screen pretty much
<jlj>
they just took the mainboard out of the tablet pretty much
<jlj>
so yeah, a tablet
<jlj>
I read that there was otg support in uboot now though

well, u-boot has a dedicated configuration option "Enable sunxi OTG / DRC USB controller in host mode", but i have no experience with that - might have to give it a try

i'd suggest configuring the above option (which also requires you disable the sunxi EHCI driver), and put up a minimal script to display "usb info" or "usb tree" for diagnostics

<NiteHawk>
you could edit the config file, or use "make menuconfig" (i prefer the latter)
<mripard_>
never edit the config file.
<NiteHawk>
ah right, u-boot does a lot via device-specific includes - which is quite different from linux kernel config
<jlj>
NiteHawk/mrip: Oh, cool. It has a menuconfig just like the kernel. Yeah thought it looked like a kernel setting :)

seemed to work, found the files, but stopped at "Starting kernel" :(
pirea has joined #linux-sunxi
<NiteHawk>
jlj: you're using an older kernel (3.4.x)?
<jlj>
no, 4.0
<jlj>
NiteHawk: I have a feeling it was cause there wasn't a specific dtb-file for my board. I used the one for mele1000.
<jlj>
Is there a way to use the fex file instead of device tree for mainline?
pirea has quit [Client Quit]
<mnr>
jlj: Without a proper device-tree, you should not expect the kernel to come up.
<mnr>
jlj: Mainline does not use fex.
<mnr>
jlj: You can use the config information from the fex file to write a device-tree, but you cannot use the fex directly
ricardocrudo_ has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]

mnr: Ok, so hanging on "Starting kernel" would be expected in this case?
<mnr>
jlj: Another thing: you wrote that you do not have a serial console. Have you enabled simplefb support in your kernel? If not, there is no kernel output
<jlj>
mnr: Yeah, I enabled it when I compiled the kernel
<mnr>
jlj: The device-tree contains a lot of low-level configs, such as pin muxing and clock setup. If the pinmux is wrong for your board or the wrong clocks are chosen, the kernel dies immediately
<mnr>
jlj: I have never used that, so no idea, sorry.
adj_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<mnr>
jlj: Another framebuffer-related thing: did you also enable "console-on-framebuffer"? simplefb alone gives you a framebuffer, but if no framebuffer console support is activated, you still get no output
<jlj>
mnr: I'm not sure, lemme check
<NiteHawk>
jlj: if you want another round with u-boot - the description of CONFIG_USB_MUSB_SUNXI has the details. this option can't coexist with CONFIG_USB_EHCI. check if you have "USB_EHCI" set as one of the CONFIG_SYS_EXTRA_OPTIONS, you'd need to remove that
<jlj>
mnr: nope, it was disabled. So that is needed too then. Guess it could still work
<jlj>
NiteHawk: Cool, I'll check that too
